I kept getting told I'm a workaholic

I had one of my museum volunteers email the president of the board to tell me to relax and take my days off. I was so surprised. But if I'm not there things don't get done. I am the only employee and I am responsible for many jobs. I practically have to be there 7 days a week to get things done. I feel that if I take a day off I will get blamed if I fall behind in my work

I know how you feel as that is the way that I used to feel when I was working outside the house. I believe that the reason that something like this happens to people like us is because of the fact that we take everything on our shoulders and we take it really hard if there is something that is not done properly.
That said, I do think that it is important for us to take a day off and to relax from time to time in order to maintain our mental health.

Anything done in excess can be harmful for our health. Maybe that volunteer just cares for you because he or she saw how hardworking you are and how you've spent practically 24/7 there at work. Why not take them up for their advices, take a day off and let them feel how it is without you there so they can also be a bit responsible. No harm in trying!
