Philippines

hi guys. I have this small business here in the Philippines and I often use my freezer. It easily gets frozen and the ice all over are overwhelming. I tried to shave the ice so I can open the freezer door so it will not get stuck. My mother told me to just allow the ice so the food will get cold easily she says if i defrost my refrigerator frequently my electricity bill will shoot up and I am afraid that it will happen because I am saving money because I don't have a job. SO please your advise is really well appreciated.

I often have this problem, i had a man come over and look at it and he replaced the device that cools to make the ice. Have a look you can do it yourself even. I'm sorry i'm not sure the exact parts name. I would say clean the ice out your fridge once every 3 months at least. Hope this helps :)

You don't need a handy man its not that hard to do. You just need the right part. Its not as hard as you think my brother watched him do it.

I really suggest you to get new refrigerator which used a highly effective refregerant but will not build up any ice. Only the things inside it will freeze but there will be no ice build up. With inverter type, we can easily save a lot of electricity bill. My previous refrigerator use ice build up to create cold, just like yours I think, and I saw my meter quite fast. By the time I use the refrigerator version which I mention above with energy saving feature, the electric meter hardly even move. So if you can afford to get new one, better get it.

Are you talking about e no frost type? I am still planning to buy one its kinda pricey here though I am still weighing the advantage and disadvantage of the new refrigerator. I am looking for an energy efficient brand.

Yes. I mean the no froat type. There are a lot of brand that are actually good. Panasonic, hitachi, samsung, just to name a few. Each brand has normal and energy saving product. Both range works well. Energy saving will cost a bit more. But both range require less energy compare to the frost type.

Our refrigerator have an indicator. there is a red button there that is sticking out of the side of the freezer. so if the red button is no longer visible that meant that we do need to defrost the freezer and the ref already. =)

We have a red button for defrost but its not an indicator its a button that I will push whenever I want. The manufacture says it will pop as soon as the defrosting is done but I have to pull it up after 4 hours. geez..

Hi, Nowadays, modern refs are designed to automatically defrost when it builds up on the freezer compartment. It think it is done by the thermostat, an automatic regulating mechanism that shuts down electricity when a certain temperature is reached thus melting the ice. What should be monitored is the drain pan on the bottom because it can be filled up with the melted ice and may flood all over the place if the water is not disposed properly.

yeah we have that unsightly pan at the back that is giving me a hard time to take out because I have to pull the entire refrigerator and its heavy. Thank God I don't have to do it often or my back will break.

I will defrost my fridge once in a week. It is necessary to defrost our fridge once in a while to avoid a lot of unwanted problems.

We only defrost our refrigerator when the ice on the freezer is very thick already. I think it is twice or thrice a month only.

That's what I did before my froZen business started but now i find it hard to defrost because of the freezing time required for my business the ice now is kinds thick but the items inside my freezer some of them are not frozen yet.

Well I just remembered about it after reading your discussion. I basically do it after a few months which can actually mean once in every 6-8 months. I think thats enough. And I don't know about the effect the frost actually have but the logic is quite sound and so it should save you some money on the electricity bills.

We don't usually do it in our refrigerator. I think it is already automatic for our unit.
