Is it bad to overcharge my iPhone?

I normally keep my iPhone plugged for the whole night to charge. Normally, I would only need an hour to have it fully charged but since I leave it the whole night, that means I exceed the 1 hour by several hours. I wonder whether that would destroy my battery or at least make its lifespan shorter? I notice that my iPhone's battery now does not last more than 6 hours, I wonder whether that's already the effect of overcharging.

You should never do that.Charging for the whole night will surely damage your phone and its battery. It will decrease the capacity of the battery

You shouldn't overcharge your iphone, at all costs, as it's extremely damaging for the battery life, and you'll soon have to get a new one instead.

I, myself charge my phone overnight. It is not an iPhone but it is a smartphone and so far i haven't noticed any difference. The battery hour is pretty much the same as before and everything works fine, but i still think overcharging is not a good idea. There is a reason the phone asks you to unplug the charger or maybe because it just wants to save your electricity lol.

I think it is not good to overcharge the cellphone. Otherwise the cellphone will not notify you the charging is finished and ask you to unplug it after that. I think somewhat it will have a bad effect on the battery if you overcharge it. It is just like my laptop. It can last for ten minutes now. So right now after the charging is finished, I will unplug it immediately.

I believe that this type of phone automatically quits charging when it reaches full charge. And your battery gets old just like any other one and doesn't hold as long of a charge. Six hours is pretty good really.

Yes, overcharging of batteries can really destroy it. Try to see if your battery is not flat and it has already a swell. You don't have to wonder why your battery doesn't last for 6 hours because the lifespan is becoming shorter that's the reason why it shouldn't be overcharging.

I don't have an iphone, but I do have a smartphone, and once my phone is charged, it will notify me to unplug the charger. If my phone needs charging and I am ready to go to bed, then I will just trun it off, and wait until the morning to charge it up, so I can be here when it gets fully charged. There have been times that I have forgot to take the charger off when I was supposed to, but not sure it affected it any, as it was only for a short time. Now, I do have an ipod, and I suppose the battery in it is the same as the ipho0ne. All i know is, it doesn't keep its charge to well, as I have to charge it up every couple of hours. I only charge my cellphone up every other day, so it goes for at least two days, before it has to be hcarged again, and I think that is good. Take care, and have a good day.

You cannot overcharge an iphone : an internal security stops the charge when it is at 100%, so there is no problem to leave it plugged. A Li-Ion battery like the one on the iphone does not last forever : it has a 1000 charges cycle maximum, and it is normal that your battery lasts less than when it was new, and has nothing to do with overcharging.

This should not have an effect on your iPhone. I would use mine throughout the day and get the battery pretty low, then leave it in for the night. I have been doing this for the past three years, and I have not once had a problem with it's battery. Also, when I first got it at the apple store, I asked the employee helping me if it would be ok for me to do that, he said it would not affect the battery. Your iPhone battery should be fine. It is not the affect of Overcharging.

Its bad to overcharge anything. It can make the battery swell or worse rupture and leak out acid potentially damaging the device it powers
