At every holiday it seems that there are foods that we associate with the season. Or it could be beverages. I am indulging right now as I sit and MyLot. I am having "Robin's Eggs" candy. It is a malted milk ball or rather oval, coated in chocolate and then with a hard candy shell. It is the one thing that I love in the way of Easter candy. My daughter loves Peeps. Most of these candies come in one version or another year around but I just want them at the holiday. However, I am also wanting peanut M&Ms but I only bought the Robin's Eggs tonight. Do you do that as well and indulge in certain things at certain times of the year. I guess that is why many people do peppermint at Christmas. Are you munching while you MyLot?

Those are very like the Jolly Rancher hard candies. Very good flavors too.

I would crunch a jaw breaker and hurt my already damaged teeth.I used to love them when I was a kid. I liked seeing the colors of each layer.

As a kid I enjoyed what my mother used to make at home - sugar drops. They were round and sticky. Once in the mouth it was not possible to talk to any one. They would stick to the teeth taking ages to melt away. Different flavours and different colours too!!

I usually do not make it to the clearance sales. The good stuff goes away really fast, otherwise I would do that as well.

I'm not much of one for candy but I will say that I do love those robins eggs. Cadbury's mini eggs are pretty close to them. I agree, every holiday has it's special treats that we remember them for. Oranges in our christmas stocking. Ok that one may be more the smell than the treat. Treats and certain smells do remind me of different holidays.

The original Jergens lotion. No, the orange being the only gift was a story from my granparents time. Jergens lotion makes me think of them as well. Nail polish was a thing from there as well. I try not to have candy in the house, but this time I could not resist.

Yes fresh fruit is a part of those memories as well. I remember hearing about the times when an orange might be all that someone would get for Christmas. Thanksgiving to Christmas is cranberry season for me.

Well, can't say it was ALL I ever got but it was tradition to have that orange in the toe of my stocking each year. Jergens cherry/almond lotion is another scent that reminds me of Christmas. For easter though, I would have to agree that those robins eggs are my absolute favorite.

Yeah, and my special occasion is called "boring reading"..lol I don't know why, but when I have to read my textbooks and ti gets boring, I just want the junkiest food. It was super hard like week when reading my Psychology book and it was on hunger and the what, how, and why we eat. One term, called "positive" something is where one sees or hears about a particular food, like chocolate, and they crave it just by seeing it. For example, they had a chocolate chip cookie and the page and next thing I knew, I wanted chocolate.
Now as for munching while I MyLot, sometimes, but it is because it is time to eat, or like the term I mentioned, someone here started talking about a particular food and I started craving it.

Would that be "positive reinforcement" ? Probably not as that is when you are given some reward for doing the right thing. I think I stress eat, but it is not very often. I like to stop, put the computer away and eat my meals.

Nope, this is what it is, straight from the book:
Positive Incentive Value: In eating behavior, the anticipated pleasure of consuming a particular food; in general, the expectation of pleasure or satisfaction in performing a particular behavior.
In other words, I see or read about chocolate, I expect the pleasure of enjoying some chocolate.

Oh! I always look for those and can't find them. The 'robins eggs' I know are little tiny egg shaped candies. We used to get peeps. I got my daughter(41 now)the Cadbury eggs and she always loved those. I think they even have the same commercial for them that they did back then. We do have certain things certain times. Always look forward to them.

"Indulging in guilty pleasures."
Reading the title of your topic my thoughts ran a-rioting. The GG I know is not that kind of a person. And that is why I suppose we are advised to read the post before jumping to conclusions
It is only during Christmas time that I indulge in sweets that have a Christmas flavour. Other times, it is chocolates, chocolates and more chocolates

That is the key. . . find a title that would hook people and get them to participate. I keep chocolate in several forms on hand all the time. I buy Dark chocolate Dove Promises. For a while we ate one piece every night. It sure takes the compulsion out of it. I thought about buying malted milk powder instead of the candy, but had to have the candy instead.

I don't think GG needs to do that!
Any brand of chocolate is my favourite. Mostly they are gifted to me. Recently I got a box of dark chocolate liqueurs of the Anthon Berg brand. Here is an image. They are shaped like bottles. Each chocolate (16 of them) contain different spirits. The image looks big here but they are around 1 1/2" x 1"

I'm not munching right now, but I do get carried away with holiday goodies. What's a holiday without them, though? I like the Robin's Eggs too, and I always get extra jelly beans. I don't think of them any other time, but I do like them at Easter.

I usually do not munch when online, but last night was the exception. I do best if I stay out of Wal Mart.

The only junk food I am so much into right now is soft-drinks, specifically Coca-Cola. I have been trying to cut it off my system but have continuously failed. The only solution I could think of right now is to counter-balance it by also drinking a lot of water, milk and tea. I like to munch when in front of the computer, but it should always go with a Coke, preferably ice-cold.

Soft drinks are almost addictive because of the bubbles and sugar and caffeine. If I go without them eventually I do not want them as much. Yes, if you could limit to one soda a day it would be healthier or have a glass of something else for each glass of soda.

Oh, I LOVE malted milk balls! I'm like you, though, and only eat them around holidays, usually Easter. I love Peeps, too. I have a really hard time passing them by in the stores that sell them when they put them out waaaaay too early. If I bought them when they are first put on the shelves, I'd be as big as an elephant!
My absolute favorite "holiday" treat would be the Mary Sue Vanilla Butter Cream Easter eggs. Well, I prefer them with milk chocolate and you can find vanilla butter cream candies in milk chocolate but those HUGE Mary Sue eggs with the dark chocolate are just too enticing. I've gotten better about them, though. IF I do buy one, it usually takes me a month to finish it.
Easter, Christmas and Halloween are my favorite holidays because, besides all the decorating, they all have such lovely sweets and treats to choose from.
I'm not munching at the moment but that's just because I'm about to go to sleep. I have a feeling I'll be dreaming about Peeps, Robin's Eggs Malt Balls and Mary Sue Easter Eggs. lol

I am going to have to look for the Mary Sue eggs. I am not sure I have ever seen them around here. I will go to my brother's and he will have all kinds of single wrapped candies in dishes.

My mother always had those individually wrapped candies out all the time. She also complained about not being able to lose weight all the time, too. lol
I did a little research into Mary Sue Easter Eggs and found that they are a "Maryland tradition". They are made in Maryland. I had no idea that they were only sold there! (I was born and raised in Maryland.) They sell them here in Virginia, too, but we're right next door to Maryland.
I'm a little confused about what their website says, though. They claim to be a Maryland candy yet also claim to be "America's best Easter Egg..." so I'm confused, are they local or are they national? The website doesn't specify that.
Here's the link if you'd like to check them out: http://www.marysue.com/mshistory.html

Junk foods have fooled lots and lots of people. What magic do these junks have? I am a chocolate muncher but thank God I do it with moderation. Except for my love for chocolate I believe I have successfully controlled my desire for other sinful food.
Do I munch while at myLot. Sometimes, but only slices of fruits if really hungry. I can't really think well if I munch. I can't do much thinking when munching at the same time. I have to stop one to do the other.

I think anything in moderation. I had all the candy I wanted last night and am successfully staying away from it now. Maybe my comments will be better without candy.

Oh yes, I do certain food at dfferent times of the year. For example a ham at Easter. I dare not buy chocolate as I would eat it off until the package is finished. I just do not stop. I am going to amke myself a bologna sandwich before I sleep as I missed dinner. Enjoy, I do not know Robin's Eggs or Peeps but they sound so wonderful

I am off work tonight, but on the nights I work it seems like I want to eat all evening. Honestly, your bologna sandwich sounds very appealing. Peeps is a colored marshmallow candy. Originally it was little yellow chicks and only at Easter. Now you can get them year round for every holiday in suitable colors. I know I see chicks and bunnies, not sure what else is available. I keep chocolate on hand and it seems to not call my name as loudly.

Hi GG! I buy candy canes to decorate the Christmas tree with. I always take one off the tree and eat it and by the time Christmas is over the canes are gone cuz I ate them all! I don't think I'll do that next year cuz I need to break bad habits.

Yes we look forward to different foods for almost any Holiday or special occasion. My husband's favorite are the Cad berry eggs, and the Cad berry crème eggs, which I also like, but I love the chocolate covered marshmallow eggs, robin eggs, and jolly rancher jelly beans.

You know, those original Cadbury creme eggs were too rich for me. I was fascinated by them when I first saw them in the store, but I would have a hard time even eating one. The jelly beans are good, too. I was trying to avoid buying anything but I just had to when we went to Wal Mart today.

Darn you, Gerty!! I haven't thought about robin's eggs for a whole year and probably wouldn't have until you brought them up!! Now I'm going to be looking for them, I can practically taste them right now. Oh, the textures and tastes!!
One thing I remember from Easter baskets when I was a child was the fruit and nut egg. Yummy!! Wonderful chocolate covered goodness with nuts, cherries, pineapple and whatever in it. And the sugar confection eggs--a hollow sugar egg with Jesus inside. I think Mom put those in there to remind us of the real meaning of Easter when we were kids. Oh, so GOOD, all those yummy stuff!!
Mom told me a few years ago that she'd let the marshmallow chicks sit out for a couple of days so they'd be suitably stale for me but kept my brother's sealed because he liked them fresh. That just made the Bunny story all the more believable!

I think we only had an Easter basket once or twice, but we always had new clothes. I am not sure I ever had a fruit and nut egg. I have had some really fun Easters with dying the eggs and all, though. I would not have thought of the eggs but we went to Wal Mart for some necessities. I am pleased to report that the rest of our food was healthy. . . sweet potatoes, beets, fish, etc.

I do not know if malt powder is barley or wheat, but if I am not mistaken both have gluten. I would over eat on the cookies as well.

Indulge. I used to love all that Easter candy. I was a big fan of those small solid chocolate eggs. They came in a bag like the Hershey Kisses. Only egg shaped. I used to sit and watch TV and eat them. I also loved this thing my grandmother madeThey called easter cake. It was more like a loaf. And the dominant flavor is Anisette. They are real good. My mother still actually makes it. And the meat pie. I forgot the real name of it though. It is made with eggs, ricotta cheese, hard salami and the italian salami. That is also awesome. But very fattening. But it only comes once a year. So, indulge for a while. I will.
