Something tells me that is not the reason for girls to learn ballet. It is an exacting exercise and requires devotion and much self discipline as well as the ability to go without lots of life's pleasures. Ballet is painful and the feet can actually be deformed from all the work they have to do.
If you get the chance, watch the movie "Black Swan" it will open your eyes.

My brother-in-law's daughter was sent to learn to dance when she was very small as a development for her hobby. She loves it till now when she is in her fifth year in the primary school. She goes to the art school to learn to dance on weekends and during summer vacations. Now she is very good at dancing. For boys, they usually love to learn something different like martial arts etc.
By the way, I agree with what is mentioned in your discussion that girls may have the elegant feeling because of learning ballet. I love to watch ballet for its elegance in the first place. Have a wonderful day, youless.

Ballet is such a wonderful genre of dancing. It is really graceful and very elegant. Ballet is one way of teaching the children discipline and it is like letting her find her inner self in such a young age. For me also, it is one way of correcting the body posture of the child though ballerinas are known for having big calves. It doesnt matter anyway as long as you have the heart and passion for ballet.

My daughter got her confidential boost right after join to learn ballet. She was not very confident as she got little scratch in her face for medical reason. Recently her teacher ask her to join school dance team and her team got first place in traditional dance competition last week. That's good for her. By next month, she had ballet exam. And now she practicing her move every single day. Skipping, Pony gallop, Pony step and so on. I believe she will pass this exam very well.

And why are so few sons that are tempted to go into ballet? Ever seen the film Billy Elliot? Definitely a wonderful film to watch about a boy who wants to learn ballet against his father and brother's wishes, I know you love watching movies my friend so I highly recommend it to you.

I think that ballet is a lovely activity for any girl of 5 years to 18 years old. If the mom finds a ballet class locally available she may be likely to get her daughter to attend the ballet lessons.
My daughter is 3 years old. She likes to wear a pair of ballet shoes when she is at her child minders. She goes to gymnastics on Monday and Just and Jiggle on Thursday. I know she might like to do ballet or tap dancing when she is older.
Girls that do ballet feel elegant and pretty. It gives them a high self esteem I believe my friend You Less.

I think that learning ballet or any dancing is good to help young ladies be more coordinated and poised. Having a thinner more muscular and healthy body never hurt a young girl either.

Because every parent would like to see their child grow up to be a beautiful princess. Every daughter in every mother's eyes is a princess.
On the other hand, it is not really cheap to put a child in ballet lessons especially girls who start earlier than boys. When they reach a certain age when they have to start using toe shoes then it becomes even more expensive. Then at the age 15 or 16, they'd start being active with their social life, reality sets in, most of them stop. Those who truly are passionate about this art form continue and become a real ballerina. To be in this profession means not only just passion but hard core discipline and work. Many are called but few are chosen.:)

Hi youless!
I remember I let my daughter joined a ballet group when she was younger. Since she is my only daughter, I would want her to be pretty always, he he. Now she told me that she don't really like dancing.
She discovered that she preferred Cosplaying so i would let her join cosplaying activities from time to time.
Have a great day!

The ballet or the dance is a good exercise for the girls. Regular classes will give them a good figure. Not only that we, the parents what to see their daughter is shining in front of the public, and we are very happy to get some appreciation of our daughter about her dance. My daughter who started learning Classical dance from the age of 4 years, now she is 9 years old. She is doing very good dance and getting the appreciation from school friends and teachers. Further there is a very happy moment or feeling will be there if a small girl, an innocent girl is dancing. Have a nice day and thanks for this good discussion point.

the reason is to teach dicpline and to move gracefully. It will also give them self confidence when with a group. Thats also why you have your kids learn to sing.

I think it is with the principles and discipline that ballet teaches girls that makes mothers want their daughter join such activity.

Ballet is a good foundation for many dances and one has to learn from young in order to have a flexible body. Many gymnasts started with ballet. Gymnasts also have ballet as part of their training. One more thing I have to highlight is Yoga. With training in ballet, it is easier for someone to become a Yoga instructor. See the career potential here?
