I think that South East Asia is a travelers paradise full of cheap prices. I found Indonesia very cheap indeed. I liked it in Singapore and I found it fascinating traveling in Malaysia. In the future I would love to visit the Philippines on my way to Australia. I could go swimming, snorkeling and island hopping by ferry.
Where in Asia do you think would be lovely for traveling?

Hi Black Rusty. I am so happy and excited to hear you will be visiting the Philippines next year. I am glad your US dollar will go far there. A positive exchange rate can be lovely. It is great a friend of yours will be showing you around. Good luck to you affording that airfare.

Have you seen that film with Leonardo Di Caprio, The Beach, which I believe was filmed near Phuket, in Thailand, now that is beautiful, although dangerous for snorkeling and swimmers because of the sharks. Definitely a beauty spot in Asia which I think a lot of people head for when they go to Thailand.

Yes, the beaches of Thailand are quite a hit with many outbound tourists from India.

I think that every country in Asia could be interesting I have visited Thailand, Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam and the next countries on my travel wish list are Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Taiwan and the Philippines. Later I would also like to visit China, Mongolia, South Korea, Japan, India and Nepal. I can visit South Korea and Japan without a visa, but I would need a visa for China, Mongolia, India and Nepal. I plan on visiting the visafree countries first because that is easier and I only need my password if I don't stay there for a long time. One day I would also visit to visit the countries in Central Asia especially Kirgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan.

I want to take dad out of country. But dont know how. I mean, he is 78 years old. And since I would be traveling without any companions, other than dad, the thought scares me. I did target those countries. But ...I am not sure I can ever take him out..:( I so badly want to take him out...:(

You should plan to do pre-booking of Airtravel, as well as Hotel so that at that time you mainly focus on enjoying the trip.

Maybe you could start going to the nearest country from where you are. If you can do it by land or a short flight, I think your dad could cope with it :)
Plan it very early and have someone come with you to help you also. Early bookings are usually cheaper, whether flights, or hotel accommodations.
Hope you get that trip you want!

I went to BALI last year! It is really amazing place to travel. There are kind native people, beautiful beach, special curry food, and low cost there. Almost all of cars and motors are Japanese brands. Local SPA was impressing me much until now.
BALI really deserves traveling absolutely!

With lots of exiciting places like beaches, shoppers' paradises, historical sites, Asia- whether the South Asian subcontinent or South-East Asia offers a lot to tourists. I would like to go to Thailand, Malaysia or Singapore. In terms of what we in India can normally afford, Thailand is the best bet. It offers a lot, especially beaches and in terms of cost, it is good for Indians. This is because 1 Thai Baht=1.86 Indian Rupees, and as compared to Dollars or many other countries' currencies, this is quite favorable.
So, the costs do not pinch that much also.

I think this is a great idea going to South East Asia!
I lived and worked there more than 10 years ago, and I absolutely love it. I think that the people are very hospitable, and the beaches are great. I think island hopping is a great way to spend a vacation.
I did the same thing last Christmas with my family, and my kids absolutely loved it!

Hi friend... i still remember you have been gone to South East Asia included Indonesia (my country). Yes, you are right that Indonesia, Malaysia and Philippines are wonderful resorts to take vacation. When you come these countries you will find everything is very cheap. Here you can swimming, snorkeling and other activities in the beach. Hi friend I hope you come to Indonesia again and come to the beautiful beaches in Indonesia...

Southeast Asia is a blessing for travellers who can't afford expensive hotels and private vehicles. I do find that it is more affordable to get around mainland Asia as bus and trains are comparably cheaper. It is more expensive to travel the archipelago as you would need to take a boat/ship/ferry or get flights. I think I will never get tired of coming back to Southeast Asia.
