I have seen this on Kijiji a few times, and now a few people posting on Facebook.
Thye have the animal mainly dogs, for a period of time, then just for some reason don't want it. I think giving the animals away is very irresponsible then those who put it down, are even worse.
If I know anyone that does that, I will never talk to them again. It shows what type of person (selfish, and ignorenet) they are, and I don't want to associate with them.
If you can buy clothes, and luxuries, even cable tv you can support the animal. I love the lame excuses people come up with such as they damage my furnture, or it's 16 and peeing on the floor.
People are so uneducated it makes me want to cry, a simple research beforee getting the animal would show. But many don't consider the animal, but instead their selves, and their wants and needs for that time, until they get tired of it.

I can.. they have no hearts. I wish people like that were not allowed to have any animals. I can imagine how they treat their kids.

Personally, I have never understood this one as well. Especially if you are charging a rehoming Fee just because you are not wanting the dog anymore. What happened to people being committed to their pets. Totally I agree pets are a lot of time and money and if you cannot take the time and money to care for them, why own one?

We have humane societies where you can release the animal to them. There are many ways to give the animal a much better home. If a person truly cares about the animal, but realizes they can't take care of it, they could atleast try to give it away or give it to the humane society.
NEVER the animal shelter
Down here we have "safe place" anywhere there is a sticker in the window or a sign in the window, a mother can drop off a child that she can no longer care for and can't care for, no questions asked.
The same should be done for pets.

Yeah i have heard of people giving away kids they no longer want or can care for. If they can find a place for a child to be when you don't want or can't have the child anymore why can't they do this for animals people don't want anymore. I mean instead of abortion give the kid to someone who wants one. Also do the same for pets you don't want anymore give them to someone who wants them.

Exactly! There are so many people out there who want a pet, but would rather have a pet that another doesn't. That is to say instead of going to a pet shop, they go to the pound or humane society and get a pet that has been rescued.

I don't think this is right at all. If your animal is suffering from being sick or a disease then I can see it, but not just because you don't want it. You would be better off just putting it somewhere along the road and give it a chance to live.

I have heard of people abandoning their pets because they can't pay their vet bills, like say $900. worth. The last time I went to the vet for my cat for example I was stunned by two people in general. I can see that is alot of money but some people just don't know how to budget, use coupons w/ sales, cut back, live on less, stop buying the newest gadgets, etc. If they did they would have $ for their beloved pets.

I don't pity people when they say but it was this much at the vets. I spend over $2,000 on regular vet bills (shots, checkups), then $4,000 a year or more on emegrency unexpectant. I know some who have abdoned their animals at the vets, and walked off. It's the coards way out, and you right budgetting. I put so much away each month for it. I have run out of that money and used my credit card. I know if worse comes to worse someone would give me the money, or go pay it for me.

I understand that things come up when you're no longer able to care for your pet, but that's no reason to kill the pet. Instead, do what you can to make sure that he/she has a good home with another family or individual.

Recently I saw a car sticker that said "A dog is for life not just for Christmas". I totally agree with that. My lounge floor looks like wood but it is lino. Wetness can easily be mopped up. In my last house I had a hard wooden floor that was damaged with dog wee. My dogs have a large basket and they also sit on our sofa. I love my two dogs and will love them for all their lives.
Having an animal put down because you don't want them anymore is sick. I believe don't get a pet if you can't love him or her for his or her whole life. Only a selfish and ignorant person would do that. Animal charities can sometimes rescue a dog who is owned by such an idiot. I am an animal lover and I eat a vegan diet.

I will never be able to understand how there are people that are able to do this. Seriously, if you got tired of your spouse or your children would you put them to sleep because you didn't want them anymore? I think not! For me, when we choose to bring an animal into our house, they become a member of our family and that means that they have all the same rights that the members of the family have.
If I wouldn't be willing to do something to one of the human members of my family, I wouldn't be willing to do it to one of the furry members of my family.

It is a most inhuman act to neglect or have your pet put down for any reason. These people only have to put themselves in the place of these animals. Would they want this same treatment to be done to them? I condemn people who do this. It is very animalistic and inhuman.

A lot of people see the situation differently. Some would prefer ending the life instead of prolonging the suffering. While others would just let the animal die its own course. If I were in that situation, I wouldn't want my pet killed. I'd still want to make his last days taking care of him. I don't think it would be that of a burden at all.

Hey, I love my dogs so much I love them as my own family. And everytime I see injustices done to the animals especially the dogs, my heart aches I feel like crying. I understand how you feel. And I would definitely understand if you wouldn't talk to your frjend anymore if you see him or her maltreating animals.

An animal is a life you take responsibility for once you adopt it, like your own child. People should realise this the next time they decide to keep a pet, it is not a toy for their own amusement to be discarded once they are no longer entertained by it.

hi,Ricki,I agree with you,we should regard our pets as our children. If we have no enough time to take care of a pet,and I suggest that we should give up adop a pet.Since we have it,we just should pay our pation and energy on it.

You can talk to me more because I am an animal lovers. :) I care dogs and cats. Even my family told me I am look like them coz even those small who left on the street are my favorite to care. One time when I was on my mother's home and I stayed there for two years I care an animal, it's a piglet. I feed that pig in 5mos. Until the time has come for that pig to sell in the market. The funny thing on that day was when my cute pig took off by the vendor I cried... And the amazing scene is my piggy didn't cry he voluntarily walk inside the cage for sellers. I hide and cried.. Then for so many years I never EAT pork.. I always remember my Porky pet.. :)

When i was younger my parents had a dog that constantly chewed up the entire house but they didn't put the dog down they just gave the dog back to the person they got it from. Now i have 2 dogs and one poops in the house a bit but hubby and i just punish the dog. We don't take the dog to be put down that is mean as hedoublehockey sticks. If you don't like that the dog might pee poop in your house or you find it hard to train the dog then don't have a dog in the house. Also you can give the dog to another family instead of having it put down. Having a dog put down because it makes in the house. Well when people have kids they are potty training they don't [u them down when they make in the pants or in the bed so why do it to animals when they go in the house. I't the same thing training your dog not to go in the house or your kid not to go in their bed or pants. It's still training and if you wouldn't get rid of your child because they don't go in the toilet then don't get rid of a dog because they don't go outside. Animals are like kids they need to be trained and if you can't handle it then find someone who can but never ever put them down because they make in the house.

This is such an appropriate discussion for me because I don't know what to do for the dog I love so much. My hubby is saying we should put him down and not be selfish. Please tell me what I should do? I have Cody a shih tzu who will be fifteen in June. He has had some health issues for the past three years. One being a few seizures then a bloating problem he had last month. Where both times he spend a few days in the hospital. Now for the past year he has been peeing everywhere and anywhere even in his bed. He is blind and deaf and having trouble with his hind legs in getting up to walk. In October of last year he became infected with ticks due to horses in the neighborhood. So I'm constantly checking him for ticks even to this day. I love my Cody so much but my hubby feels that Cody is not happy. He doesn't run around, he doesn't play like he use to. That is all due to his age. Am I really being selfish? Should I put him down? Do you think he is suffering? What should I do?

People are dumb, thats all there is to it. Animals have absolutely no fault, they're animals, they dont know any better. They're also no toys and are a huge responsibility. If someone is not willing to take that responsibility than... ehy have animas in the first place? Because its cool?

I'm glad you feel the same way as i do about animals.I could never understand putting an animal down for idiotic reason's.My neighbor and i don't get along because she let's her dog's and cat's run loose in the road. She buy's kitten's (or has her female cat get pregnant to have kittens) then when they get big throws them outside, when the dog's aren't puppies anymore she either has her father drop them off or takes them to be put down.It just make's me sick.I will be there for my animals when they do something "bad", get hurt or are old just like i would any family member.
