Do you give 10 % of your earnings to God?

Hi everyone I hope to hear from you. Ok I want to ask why you should give 10 % of your earnings to God. Well in our religion (Christianity) we give 10 % of our earnings to God. Suppose if I earn $10 then I will have to give $1 to God. If I earn $100 by selling Hens, Pigs, Goats, Sheep, and etc. Then I will have to give Ten percent to God (Church). If I get $1000 monthly salary then I will have to give $100 to God as 10 %. And unfortunately I am unable to give frequently but occasionally. So do you people give 10 % to God being a christain or any religion? Are you able to give monthly, daily and etc? And is it really very necessary to give Ten Percent of your earnings to God?

Any Church that tells you that you must give 10% of your income to "God" (i.e. to the Church) is practising extortion. Moreover, any suggestion that if you don't give a tenth of your income to the Church, you will not receive God's blessing is LIES. The Bible says nothing about how much Christians should give. It merely says that they should share whatever wealth they have with the poor (that is, those that are less well off).

Here is a wise one...he speaks the truth.. "The Bible says nothing about how much Christians should give. It merely says that they should share whatever wealth they have with the poor (that is, those that are less well off)."

Most people might be drawing the 10% from the following scripture. It should be noted that this was instruction that was asked for so the people of that time period could understand better. But at the end of every third year, keep a tenth of the year’s produce in your own town instead and give it to the needy people there – Deuteronomy 14:27-29 Another part of the bible shows how riches are not as important as our spirtual need. This applied to the man that was troubled and without because of his riches and would not apply to those that are have good hearts. The young man said to him, “I have wholeheartedly obeyed all these laws. What do I still lack?” Jesus said to him, “If you wish to be perfect, go sell your possessions and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” But when the young man heard this he went away sorrowful, for he was very rich. – Mattew 19:19-22

Yes, of course. Giving 10% of your income is not optional for the Christian. It is a direct command of G-d. However much you earn, whether it is $10, $100, $1,000, or $10,000, you must by order of G-d in Heaven, give 10% of your earnings. I give 10% of everything I earn. I give it, as quickly as I earn it. If I get a pay check on Friday, I turn in my tithe to the church by Sunday, or the following Sunday at the latest. It's not a option to do otherwise.

With much respect Andy I disagree with you. At the same time I must in good conscience comment on your generosity and caring nature. Anyone that is charitable specially in these difficult times deserves to be thanked for without people giving the world would be very sad indeed. I think it is also wonderful how Churches give so much to people in need and those that associate with them because it is the right thing to do. However, after saying that and meaning it too, I must also express the reasons that I believe it is not an order. Firstly God does not give orders, God instructs and teaches us what is good. Secondly, giving money to a church is not giving money to God, it is giving to a worthy religious effort. God does not deal with money, God is concerned with the heart. Thirdly, the bible does not literally instruct us to do this. That is not to say though that your good example Andy and those of many others is not very good way to demonstrate just what being Christian is all about. God bless.

Blessings for you Andy77e and for those who faithfully gives tithes and offerings to their churches. At the same time, FORTUNEnate are the founders/preachers of those churches who lived like kings together with their families down to the generations after them. All at the expenses ( through tithes and offerings) of the naive and unsuspecting laymembers. Just look around you.

Teething as it is called I think...should be at our convenience and not as soon as the money lands in our lap. If you are barely able to make the two ends meet, god does not expect you to sacrifice, if at all.

Yeah...it sounds as if you are bribing god..lol Holistically, we as individuals cant really do much with what we can spare, since the amounts we have is much too little for anything concrete. But collectively, that money can do good for the society. Church and other holy shrines are one way to collect small amounts and make them into something good like hospitals, schools, colleges, etc. We need to see that people do not suffer too much as it can anger them and make them revolt. We also need to see that people have enough food in their belly so that they are not susceptible to any infectious diseases, which could ultimately travel to us. So donating is not really a donation, but investment in our own well-being, indirectly. However, expecting people who can ill-afford to donate is nonsense - and fleecing.

yes indeed. God teach us to share our income to others. We got 90% and God asking you only 10% that means we still have more than enough.

Now..there are other days when that 90 percent is not there, is god sending us the 90 percent? :) I am not saying we shouldnt help or give like that. I am merely saying, we should give when we can, and what we can afford, and not when we cant, and not what we cant afford. Each one has different amount he or she can afford. Like...some may have the responsibilities of parents and siblings, so even though the person earns as much as another, he or she may not be able to spare as much as somebody who earns enough. Somewhere in between we also have to live and enjoy and be happy, right? So I think all such things should come only when we can truly afford it as per our estimations and not as per what somebody else advises us, or expects of us.

I do not think God has accountant advisers. The question of having enough also applies I think not to just what we have in terms of money but what we have in terms of charity. Just a thought here, the most successful business people generally were not greedy and unable to "invest" in other people. This makes sense to the discussion if you think about it from a social perspective too.

i am not Christian but in the religion i believe we have the same giving away of 10% of your income by heart in the way of God and helping others... what i think about it is that: this is the only way to increase your earning and making others life better and finishing poorness in our world... it really works... if we think deeply about it why God want us to do that, we will be amazed with the reason behind... it is so nice of you to give ten percent of your income in the way of God and for that i really wish you to earn more money and all happiness and blessing for you and your family..

Hope you don't mind me saying but man do you have that one wrong. Who told you that? That is not what the bible is saying at all. First off it is not giving to God, it is giving to your fellow man. Secondly, it does not always mean with money but if we use money as an example then consider this. It is ten percent of your profits not your income. That does not mean your net income. It is the excess you have after you paid for everything. This is your play money, your money for things you don't really need and it does not include entertainment costs either. God does not expect you to live without joy in life. Now if you have your pockets over flowing and someone is in need for a piece of bread do you think 10% is a lot to you to give when you don't need any of it? Some greedy people would keep it all and steal the shirt off the back of the poor. That is what that scripture means.
