I am now again facing a problem with regards to ticks. Ticks are more visible during summer. I tried frontline, shampoos, and even done painstakingly plucking ticks and still they keep coming back. i have 2 female german shepherds, 1 mixed terrier and 1 japanese spitz. the small dogs tend to get the ticks more. I even tried deworming thinking it might be in their system. the ticks went off for awhile but would come back again. what other means to get rid of ticks? I need your insights on this guys. tnx. :)

Buy a flea collar but put it into the vaccume cleaner. vacume the house and throw the bag away outside your house as in far away like at the dump or something. If you don't do this the ticks just come back. Detick and wash all the animals linen and blankets or basket or kennel. DO this properly !! Finally detick the dogs, really get in there with your hands and rub it in well. Leave the foam on the animals for a while and makes sure they are outside on a clean surface or are on tiles inside. Make sure everything is deticked and clean. Dont let the animals roll around while they are wet. If you have to then use a hair dryer on the lowest heat. If it wont burn you it won't burn the pet so test it on yourself first. Don't go setting the animal on fire ^^ Finally you yourself take a shower and clean any clothing you have. Including shoes. This worked for me good luck for you

They have products and sprays for the hosue such as caarpet, and chairs. Putting a flea collar in your vacuum will only burn the belt out and you would have to throw the flea collar and the vacuum out.

Ticks need a lot of preventing steps : every walk you do with your dogs, don't get them on the grass, don't take them between bushes and even not on a ground. You can probably take them to walk on a place no animal sleep at. For example, you can walk the dogs on the sidewalks near the roads. Don't take the dog to a park. Many other dogs probably played on the grass and ticks came down from them, and even smaller ticks may be on the grass. Don't take your dog where trash and scraps are found. The smallest ticks hang out on those things. Every time you get home with your dog, check him between the tows, inside and outside the ears, belly, arm pits, everywhere. If you see small ticks in your house, it's a big problem. Don't let any tick to grow on your dog. It will make the tick come off and lay a lot of eggs. The smallest ticks have the size of maybe a pixel or 2...

yes, you are right. the big dogs are caged and have no ticks and the small ones are not caged. so, that might be the reason they get more ticks. they freely roam around in the backyard. I think that must be it. need to get them caged. tnx.

No, don't cage them. Just make sure they don't hang around the back yard. You can also try to investigate where the ticks are. You can breath out some air from your lungs on some spots like the fence of your garden, some plants... some scraps... If you see small dots start to come out, those are maybe the ticks. They are sensitive to CO2 and heat. They come out when the dog smells the grass, they come out when they feel the body heat of someone near by. The dogs are innocent and they don't have to be caged. It is so sad to be in a cage and have no freedom. They will want to come out of the cage.

the GSDs are free to roam in the evening, they act as our security guard, but they have to be caged at daytime because, they couldn't be controlled when the gate is open and our neighbors are afraid if they see them outside the gate. the backyard is cemented and not much grass around only few plants here and there but there is a concrete structure which is partially damage not already use and sealed from them, so they couldnt get in.

I have been having the same problem with my shih tzu Cody. He only goes out to do his business but ends up with ticks. He is not roaming on any grass or bushes. There are horses that go up and down my street and we think they are coming from them. I have done the same as you and nothing seems to help. They are sucking the blood right out of him and he is losing weight due to it. I can't believe I can't find something that really works. You spend all this money on these products to get rid of the ticks and it doesn't work.

Do you take your dogs for walks often? Where do you walk them? Because most of the ticks attach to the dogs during walks in the woods or open field. They live in the tall grass and bushes. If your dogs got ticks from your own yard, it means you have to do something to make the ticks disappear from your yard. Make sure the grass is cut short. Spray some solutions against the ticks and don't let the dogs go there for a few days.

Yes lots of bathing. And try stay away from like really tall grass or weeds. Anywhere where ticks will be. Otherwise don't walk them at all. My girl dog got eaten up by ticks she looked like a zombie dog her whole back was just puss and zits and wow it stank and was gross as hell.

My sympathies. I am currently wondering if the Frontline that I applied is gettign less effective becuase I am increasing my dogs baths form to possibly 3 or 4. I usually spray my dog with lavender/citronella mix alogn with Frontline and I'm not sure if it's working.

I tried frontline still dint work. There must be a vaccine or some injection for ticks. i still have to ask my vet for that, though. its summer from where i am, so freaking hot. i see to it they have enough water to drink and bathe them twice or 3 times a wk.

They are very common this year, is it ticks or is it fleas? They are two different things, fleas are on the skin and hair, ticks burrow in the skin. Try using Advantage, or Revolution. You need to treat the house, and area as well as the dogs. If you just do the dogs, this is why they repetedly get them over and over again.

its been 3 mos. since my last post. I am happy to say ticks are now gone with my 2 dogs. yes! rainy season just started and i think the ticks were washed away from the rain. i still give them baths every week. and also i use laundry bar as a soap and i guess it worked.
