When news is "breaking", where do you turn?

When you hear of an important news story what media do you turn to right away? Fox? MSNBC? The BBC? I am hoping for a wide range of sources in the answers so feel free to list more than one. By the way, why do you choose THAT source? And why do we call it "breaking news"? Is that why the news has been so bad lately, its always "broken"? Your thoughts?

I would never go to Fox news but maybe MSNBC or the BBc or CNN. Or turn to the radio in my own country. We call it breaking news as the programme is interrupted for an important announcment or somehng perhaps catastrphic has happened in the world.

I'm Hungarian, so I may not be able to answer in a way that you can use or profit from :). I usually won't turn to any TV channels, because I can find those news quicker on the Internet. But if I have to choose a TV channel, it would probably be our public channel. Far from the best possible, but in my country, that is still the least biased and most professional TV in terms of news.

Personally, I think the only real cable new network is CNN. I personally think that FOX and MSNBC should be forced to remove the term NEWS from what they call themselves. They are both nothing but partisan programing that doesn't even follow the majority of news.

When a big story is breaking I usually go to CNN. They are the ones I trust the most to give me the most up to date information. Also, it gives you news from all over the world instead of just your hometown city or town. I live in Puerto Rico so I want to be more aware of what is going on everywhere around the world. However, if a big story breaks from New York I will go to ABC. ABC is my favorite station since New York is where I'm orginially from.

valentinesdiner I switch back and forth between CNN & Fox..I like to hear both approaches to the news. MSNBC is way too partison for me..at least Fox and CNN try to have a balance in their POVs

OBVIOUSLY FOX! Lol. No, I usually look it up online or use CTV or CBC or Global News. These are Canadian, so you may not have heard of them. But those are my choices, especially online sources, because then you can quickly read through several different perspectives.

Hi, Even in these days of cable television, internet and mobile phones, I still turn to the transistor radio for the news. I purposely ordered a hand cranked rechargeable transistor radio and it has served me well. When everything goes dark, like during typhoons and calamities, most gadgets go useless but my transistor radio continues to blare the latest updates and "breaking news" from my favorite stations. I think it is called as such because it breaks through the monotony of regular broadcasting and can make one sit up and take extra notice.

I am a news junkie. I am always watching or keeping my eyes on the news. Right now, I am getting ready to watch my local news before ABC World News. I am registered with many sites that inform me of "breaking news". I never seem to have to go to the breaking news because it comes to me online or on TV when I am watching TV. I do not have any favorite sites to go to or channels to watch. I channel surf during breaking news. Just by habit, I first gravitate towards ABC. I have no idea why it is called breaking news. Maybe because it breaks into local or national programming. If something big and important happens, then the regular programming is interrupted. It is broken into this breaking news.

We have a certain news channel which is on 24 hours, similar to CNN depending in the world where it happened I will tune in to one or the other if it is breaking news.

Internet logic and common sense. a lot of these places sensationalize or lie about what really happened.
