If Screen Size Is An Issue

Then why are the 2 smartphone giants Apple and Samsung competing to come up with a iWatch and Wristwatch phone respectively. There's been an endless issue with screen size, camera resolutions, memory space and battery life but even before bugs are being fixed I see that they are racing to produce the next wristwatch phone. I would have thought that there would be more state of the art phone coming up like a bendable plasma phone that has an alternative to conventional electrical charging. But, to cram everything into a wristwatch is really a backward step to progress and before you know it these 2 companies will be bringing each other to court which is a waste of time and money. You know, I have to hand it to them here. News Reference: http://news.yahoo.com/samsung-wants-to-get-its-hands-on-wristwatch-market-too-202030271.html

If one makes one and puts it on the market the other will lose its place unless they have one on the market as well. Its business! Wristwatches/phones are something that I think is a up and coming thing. It is strapped to your wrist, won't get lost, etc. Makes sense to me.

It is business indeed. The competition is so keen that I am sure the legal teams of both sides will be seeing each other in courtrooms all over the world again. As for the watch/phone, I have to pity that tiny fellow as it gets itself salivate and waxed (ear) over. So are the accessories where the Bluetooth would be "toothless" since I am sure it will never be as useful as before. I was telling the respondent above that we will probably be able to see a 200m water resistant phone and take it for diving. Underwater photography will definitely see a different perspective and for that tiny fellow probably an annual "bath" with natural salts for it, too.

A watch type of phone seems... highly unpractical, to be honest. No wonder they're dealing with endless issues, I mean, it would be near impossible with the technology we have today to make something like that that actually works flawlessly. I think we still need to evolve. These guys are still giving baby steps on this thing and they're already thinking about selling it! I mean, c'mon, it's all about money these days. People don't make stuff for the sake of evolution anymore.

I do not know about evolution but I am sure you will agree with me that nowadays things aren't built to last. These companies just wants you to buy and throw away, no one is eager to repair or fix nowadays. I have quite a few concerns about this wristwatch/phone ranging from hardware limitations to health hazards. I sure hope they know what they are doing with this gadget.

I don't know about smart watch phone but I wouldn't mind using a watch phone... I don't like text messaging & I go through a lot of voice calls a month so I'd just link it to Bluetooth & talk...

I am sure talking among ourselves will be be very common and determining a nut job will be quite a job for the mental institutions. But, I have to give them a hand when they are being squeezed from the factory and spit at when they are out while our Bluetooth battery life runs out. Not forgetting giving our ears a closer examination. How's that for hygiene? However, I think it will be a wish come true for 200m water resistant phone and wristwatch. Maybe you can take it for diving in the Maldives or Bahamas or somewhere exotic and tag it while you are underwater diving.

I would not have any use for this at all. The face is too small and as my fingers are a little stiff now I would not be able to type on such a tiny keyboard. I don't even like the look of it either. I suppose they wwill have a phone like a ring next! Totally unecessary in my world. Perhaps children might like playing with it but I honestly don't see the benfit or attraction to the majority of people.

To be honest, I am really interested just what operating system (OS) is it going to be "in-squeezed" and how much memory it can accommodate in that tiny body. I can accept the thinnest or slimmest phone but tinniest, I have to ask how much tiny the parts is going to get. Pity the service center staffs who will now need to double up as watch-smiths. But there again, I am sure Rolex, Breitling or all even Casio would have to thank Apple and Samsung for the brains here. Since you mentioned about reception I really have to ask them if we are going to be the antenna because I have doubts if that gadget's antenna (if it has one) is powerful enough. Remember how that transistor radio could suddenly be so clear and capable of broadcasting even channels from another universe when we come close proximity with it. Better check for its radiation levels here. On the other hand, I think the taller you are the better the reception - welcome back Afro.

I am inclined to agree with what maximax said. We are now heavily into texting. Smaller keys and smaller screens will matter and lets be honest, it can affect eyesight, and many people who have sight issues would feel isolated. The product fails...instead if they used the wrist watch for determining body's composition, blood pressure, temperature, etc., and advised what medication to take, it would be good. In fact, there is a wrist watch that monitors blood pressure and sends its reports across the internet. We need to work on that perhaps.

On the note of texting, I am sure the young and glasses free would really love to have it since it will be difficult to see what's being typed. However, I wouldn't be too fast about these being an obstacle for the vision affected, because I suspect SIRI or SAM (voice activation) will be the main feature and thanks to them texting definitely will not be the same again. Not forgetting, we will be hearing the messages all over town. About the tests, I wonder how hygiene these gadgets will be when they are eventually out in the market. Boy, they are really going to take everything from us body temperature, sweat, blood(?), saliva and ear wax. Sure makes borrowing a phone or getting a secondhand a new ball game here.

I guess it is a useless competition. I would rather full size smartphone or a tiny basic phone for my daily use. The screen size of the watch is a way too tiny to be functional as smartphone. It is not comfortable for eyes, not mention the way to call. The biggest flaws is how long the battery would stand for a smartphone usage? I do not believe wrist watch form factor can provide sufficient power storage. And the power issue will stay even though a solar cell is used.

I am really glad that you see it that way as far as going at each other is concern and for them to carry it into the courtrooms. We just have to pity these tiny gadget by what they are subjected to where they get "stuffs" squeezed into them and later get squint at. Not forgetting being salivate at as we start conversing with them. Life can never be the same for them since they are now going to be rechargeable which we really have to wonder what's their life span going to be like, with a more demanding expectation schedule. If this idea ever materialize, I would sure hate to be a watch henceforth I'd rather fade and forgotten than overworked and strewn.

I think a smartphone watch would be way too tiny. A mobile phone must not have too small keys as this is annoying for typing text messages. The camera resolution is poor compared to a small digital camera. Here we seem to have a backward step in progress. When a big company gets things wrong there won't be many purchases. I have got a basic mobile phone. Text messaging is very fiddly due to the size of the keys.

Regarding the camera, I think the main problem would be trying to see the image with that wristwatch size viewfinder and that tiny weeny shutter release. Then, I am sure the manufacturers will cleverly say that their gadget or accessory is voice recognition capable. But, guess what? The tabloids will no longer need to eavesdrop to get to your privacy - mobile numbers and text messages because it is being broadcasted as it gets voice dialed or texted. Also, I believe you will more people talking to themselves on the streets because I suppose these fancy phone will come with out of sight Bluetooth ear wig. You know the ones that looks like those you see on the spy movies which looks like wireless ear plugs. By then, we wouldn't be able to determine if the person in front of you is a candidate for the mental institution. I wonder how these 2 giants could be known to be environment friendly conscious companies when all they do is produce more and more unfriendly energy gadgets.

Actually for me they are just just putting a little gadgets on the new phone then increase the size or whatever they want. The user (BUYER ) are more interested on what we called new and to be up to date of fashion.

I am not sure if it is actually putting little gadgets on the new phone but it sure seems like they (Apple and Samsung) are squeezing more things into that tiny wristwatch and expect it to rough it out hygienically speaking. Since even the prototype isn't out yet, I wonder how tiny they will come so don't be too sure of it being fashionable. It's really too early to say. One thing I am sure is that if you are a fan of Rolex or the likes then size doesn't matter because the bigger the better - a show of affluence.
