At rush hour many cars are on the road, trains have busy crowds on them and buses can be slow moving due to all the traffic. It takes us fifteen minutes walk to or from our home to my son's school. I push my son along in his wheelchair and my daughter walks along next to us. Most of the walk is along footpaths so it is a pleasant walk.
Are you able to walk your kids to school or yourself to work?
If not which transport to you take?
How far is the school or your workplace from your home?

My kids go to a semi-private school, and it is about 35 blocks away, so we do have to take the car to and from school.
Me on the other hand work just a few blocks away from home. But since I already bring the kids to school by car, I take the car to work too.
Two days ago was Easter Monday and the kids didn't have to go to school. I did walk to work as it was a beautiful spring day. I enjoyed the little bit of exercise that I got!

When I was in school I walked all over the place. I walked to the stores, to classes and when I was working to work. Now that I am here in Las Vegas I really cannot walk around because we do not live in the safest of areas. I am glad that you are able to walk and that your kids can walk to and from school.

I'm agreeing with what you shared, I also love walking becoz it boost my body when it comes in healthy lifestyle. I'm glad to know that you walk with your children, kudos to you. Since I'm a child I always walk going to my school until I became a high school student becoz every school in our place is so near.

Hi friend, it is so hard dealing busy traffic, but I am very impressed with your effort to take your children to school. Currently, I stay in small town, so I never find busy traffic although in rush hour. So, I never have problem with my work or my children school. I think you take school travel or school bus for your children. maybe it will help them to reach their school easier.

When I worked in London, I had a free pass because I worked in the travel industry and it was great as I had a choice of how I travelled, if there was a problem with my tube line I would go out and get a bus, or if there was an alternative train journey I would use that, such is the freedom of a pass. I remember when we had tube strikes and I was living in Essex at the time, I got a train to Liverpool Street and I actually walked from Liverpool Street to Westminster, which took me 45 minutes, the buses were all clogged up in the network because everyone else was using them! I enjoy the walk because most of it I was able to walk along the stretch of Thames From St.Pauls, the flimsy bridge I call it. It's also healthy too. It was probably quicker for me to walk than to wait for a bus!

My children walked to school, and when I worked, you had to take the bus because it was all the way across the city. However when the weather is nice, I will walk to the Mall or the stores when I need something that is easy to carry.

. Good to know that you walk with your children. It also a good time to bond and enjoy the surrounding. Though others may protest of what is to enjoy when we see is a jam packed of cars, pollution (land, water and air) and ugly places around us.
There are several ways to go to my work. I walk, take a taxi or by car. If its early and I have enough time I would walk and as I walk I got to enjoy the shops along the streets and the people I meet. Sometimes I don't walk because I have to carry some heavy things so I take a taxi. If my husband waited for me, I'll take the car with him.
Nowadays I don't see a lot of people walking to work or school. Here in Tieling city China, most students ride a bicycle and other workers too. Oh, I forgot I ride the bicycle too. It's a good exercise and also faster and cheaper.

Walking is just my exercise nowadays. I want to jog but I always sleep late. I don't want to jog at night though because I'm already tired from work. My workplace is just 5minutes away from my boarding house. I guess a five-minute walk is not enough so everytime I have my break, I walk to the kitchen and get some water to drink or go to the toilet to pee. I hope I'll get enough exercise in the future. I can say that my body is just fine but I want to be more physically fit.

Yes, walking is a wonderful activity. But I might not able to do it as you do. Although the school is near, the time to enterthe school and time to go to workplace is the same. So I ride my kid first using motorcycle and then directly go to work.
Wishing have plenty time to walk.

I can not agree with you any more,I feel so sick to get on the crowded bus and go to work, you know what?I even can not find some space to stand up,that is so terrible so I always want to have a job near my house so that I can walk to work.

As a safety inspector at a large site, I average (based on my pedometer) 12-15 miles a day walking (primarily up and down the stairs of 15 story buildings (with 4 sub levels). Interestingly, if I spend more than a day just relaxing, I feel the need to do something physical.....but I would never walk to work. that would add at least 4 miles round trip to my day.

I also walk in going to work as well as in school. I currently work in a government office and after that, will go to a university to teach in college. I really enjoy walking, it's my way to exercise.

Everyday I will accompany with my son to school. It spends us within 8 minutes on foot. After that, I will go to work on foot, too. It will spend me about half an hour. I enjoy it since it is pleasant to see the scenery. And it is also a kind of daily exercise for me. It is not so tiring. I even think it will be troublesome to go to work by bus.

Three years ago,I worked in Hangzhou which is a big city in China.I didn't have a car,and I had to get up at about six in the morning. Then, after a quick breakfast on the road,I had to catch the early bus with hundreds of people who also went to work far away. The traffic was always busy and it took me about one hour to get to the bus stop which was near my office building. After getting off the bus,I walked for about ten minutes to the building. So it totaly took more than one hour to go to work.
Later,I spent some money on a second handed bicycle. The speed changed greatly. It only took me half an hour to get to work.
I agree with you.Public traffic tools take too much of our personal time.If our companies are not too far, walking and bike may be good ways.

Out here, roads are narrow, and footpaths encroached by hawkers. Many a times there are garbage cans, and people do use the walls for piddling. Then again, there is constant fear of being hit by a cyclist or two wheeler rider or somebody from auto rickshaws. Perverts...so walking on roads does not make me very comfortable, even at this age. When I was young, I could not really afford bus fares both ways, so yes, I have walked down from office on several occassions, and continuously for months, but in the morning, I tried to reach in time, though I did get late quite often. Crowded buses used to scare me. So I would leave it for the next one, hoping the next one would arrive soon. I preferred to be near air as stuffiness makes me feel faint even today.
Whether I liked it? Given the hazards, my heart used to always beat harder. lol.
I used to get nightmares about walking down the roads..lol
But I do like walking maximax. I mean...I have used it to beat down my stress on several occasions.

Hi,
I think I was one of those who walks to and from work to my house only a few blocks away. I grew up in this small town and ever since I went back home from college, it has been always my workplace. There are times, though, that some of my duties involve going out of town for months on stretch but always make it home eventually. I can't complain for that given the condition of road traffic in these parts, public and private transportation is always a big deal of hassle that can take the energy out of a worker even if his day has not yet begun. Walking is fun that when the tires of my mountain bike gave up, I didn't took the trouble to replace them and there it was, gathering dust under the stairs.

I'm glad to hear that your distance to your son's school isn't far. It's about a twelve minute drive to my work so it's a distance to walk. And a lot of it there aren't walking paths. It would be nice to walk to work and save gas money. If we stay in this area my daughter school will be right across the road from us which will be really nice.
