It was a bit of a bittersweet reunion, I had no idea what was going to happen or how he would react to seeing me. He didn't recognize me at first. I was just another visitor when I first arrived. But after a few minutes, he did recognize me and didn't stray too far from me during the time I was there. I got lots of pictures and some video, and got lots of information about the other dogs living in the house. I cried when I first saw Jazz. After 2 months of not seeing him, of course that would happen. I'd only seen a couple of pictures of him, but had gotten a few updates about him. He didn't look like he'd lost weight, and he continued to lie in the way, even though he wasn't at home anymore. He didn't care that he was in the way, even with the old blind dog stumbling over him. I went outside and Jazz followed me. I didn't watch him go down the stairs, but it didn't seem to take him very long to get to the backyard. But I watched him explore the back, he didn't go into the stream as it was frozen, but I was told that he loves it. He lay down and rolled in the snow for a bit, then came back to the stairs when I wandered back. I went up the stairs then stood at the top watching him make his way up. While he still struggled, he wasn't rushed and was able to rest a bit as he went up. I could see that the stairs were good for him, not like at my place. Jazz is doing well over at the home, and I'm glad I sent him there rather than anywhere else. There is so much love in that home, all the dogs are extremely happy, despite how sick they are. Jazz goes for his surgery on Monday, and I'm extremely worried about it. Because of his age and weight, there is a possibility that he wont survive. Also having collapsed vocal cords is not a good thing for his either. Whatever happens on Monday, I know he's in good hands. The vet team will take good care of him, and I know the people running the home will too. I don't know what's going to happen, but I will wait for an update. In the meantime, here's a photo of Jazz on the stairs.

I am glad you realized that is the best place for him. From what I can see in the picture, the stairs are not quite stairs. The steps aren't too high, so he can climb them easily. I hope the surgery will go well and you'll come back with good news about Jazz.

Of the dogs that I have kept before, most of them are given to us by either friends or relatives. They are usually in their adulthood when they came to our house. Except for one who kept howling, some say crying, at the door, the rest adapted to the new environment rather quickly. In fact, the one that howled was the only one that remember their previous owner. She sticked "extremely" to them when they visited and wanted to leave with them. The rest, they treat their previous owners as a normal visitors. So I deduce that most dogs will forget their owners very quickly.
