Incomplete Grade :(

I just received an incomplete grade for the first time ever. I'm really frustrated because I was an honor student last semester, and I promised myself I always will be. I'm not sure about our university's policy on incomplete grades but most probably it will affect my chance of being an honor student!
Well, the story is like this...
I missed the midterm exams for that subject because I attended a three-day school activity. I forgot to ask permission for the teacher. When I returned, there was new teacher because our former teacher resigned already. There were other students who also missed the midterm exams, and I told them that we should tell the new teacher that we have not taken the exams yet. They both told me that I shouldn't approach the new teacher because he might scold me and we should just contact our former teacher. I was also afraid of being scolded. However, we tried to contact our former teacher for a very long time but still he wasn't responding. So when we finally told the teacher when it was too late and he told me that taking a delayed exam is limited only to one week and that I have missed that. He will mark me an incomplete for the semester and he won't accept any excuses. I have to submit a make up project, but my grade will be incomplete. I wish I did not listen to those people who told me I should not approach the new teacher. The new teacher turned out to be kind, but told me he had to mark me incomplete. :(
What about you? Have you ever been marked incomplete? How bad do you think an incomplete grade is? Is it okay as long as you comply with it?

This must be devastating for you who is used to receiving good grades and an honor student. After you submit the make up project, would the teacher turn the grade to complete? I have received incomplete grade before, but my circumstances were different and I was actually glad that I did not receive a final failed grade instead.

Thanks for the response. I was really disappointed at first. But later on, I decided not to think so much about it. I just comforted myself with the thought that at least I did not get a failing grade, like what you said. Yes, the teacher will complete my grade once I have submitted my project. That's in June, because here in our country the school year ends this March and starts again in June. I'll work hard on that project. :D
