I have said before in the past that i am low income, my boyfriend and i make less than 15,000 a year combined, but we receive food assistance. I have a few stores in my area that have the $1 section and a store where everything is $1, even name brand products. besides purchasing meat and diapers and other items that can no way be $1 or less than $5, i am going to purchase everyday items paying only a $1 for each item. plus tax. even some food items. can i do it? can you do it? and i will be using coupons as well to get the price as low as possible. i challenge you and your family to the $1 an item challenge, see how much money you can save by doing this! good luck

I wish you the best of luck and I would love to do this as well, but it is hard. My grocery store I shop in does not have a dollar section. Even though they are high right now I have to buy fruit because Randy is diabetic and cannot eat the canned fruits. I wish you all the best.

what about frozen fruits? like the berries. and even though you have to pay more for the fresh fruits, it means you have other places you can save. i don't always shop at 1 store. i go to family dollar, dollar general, rite aid, meijer (im from michigan) and soon dollar tree, once in awhile i go to wal-mart. use coupons as much as possible too. i was suprised to find one coupon in the sunday paper that says "save $2 off chicken when you buy (i think 2) of a certain product(s)". and my local save-a-lot has chicken for cheap, plus sometimes they have an orange sticker that the cashier can take off that says "save $1 or 50 cents" and my local store also has sales on fruits too, today and today only was the cantalopes 10/$10. so save money on other products so you have more money to spend on the fresh fruits. best of luck

That one here is a hard one to do. Theres no dollar store within 3hours and due to living in the Northwest Territories shipping costs for food and such make shopping quite pricey here. I'm still in sticker shick!
Good luck with your challenge. My challenge to myself is to spend less than $300 on groceries for the month for the four of us myself. aswell I'm doing a 52 week savings challenge.

Dollar store junkie right here! I buy so much there and it is funny because there are a lot of USA made items in our shop. I can use coupons there too but only those up to 50 cents but that's OK. I always buy items that do not go bad there and most of our office supplies. I also stock up when they have name brand things I know one of the nieces or nephews will like and save them up for Birthdays and holidays.

I shop at the dollar store myself any way,I went to the grocery store, and they had dollar section and everything I had in my basket, for higher price I put it all back and got, everything from the dollar section, in that store and I spent less money that day, I will continue to shop at dollar stores, because they save me a lot of money.
