What makes a discussion a today's top?

I have been wondering about this for awhile. what is it that makes a discussion a today's top? Is it something that people on myLot that decides who gets chosen or is it because the topic get a lot of responses that makes it the today's top? I really like to know this, because it would be nice to make a topic of my choice to be the today's top for once :P

I think it has to do with amount of responses, and rating probably.
Most of the "top discussions" that I see are bland, boring discussions, but occasionally there is a good one.
If you want a typical top discussion post something from a typical day in life, and maybe you'll get lucky. I often see those with 10+ responses, sadly.
