Is coffee good for you or is it bad? Because I read so many expert opinions and they mostly vary. If its both, would you say there is a limit to how much coffee is good for you? Should you drink less than a certain amount each day?

Always remember that all excess is bad. Coffee is good, it has anti-oxidant that eliminate toxins in our body, and some other benifits. So drinking too much coffee can cause insomia, tremors, nervousness, stomach upset, etc. So how much is too much? 500-600 mg a day is too much which is like 4 or more cups a day. Healthy adults consumes consumes 200-250 mg a day which is 2 cups a day. Xx

Thats good to know. When I was last at home I remember my parents would consume exactly that much, they both have 2 cups a day together. I don't like the taste of coffee so I prefer to get my antioxidants from other places like blueberries and green tea. Thank you for the useful information :)

Coffee isn't bad if you don't overdo it. It can do a job on your stomach and makes some people jittery. I think it can also do damage to your throat if you drink too much. I love my coffee and drink a lot of it but don't have any side effects.

Moderate consumption is OK. In fact coffee has benefits such as keeping the mind alert and protect our cardiovascular system. I drink a cup of coffee a day. Coffee is fine as long as one does not become addicted to it.

Yeah I've seen a lot of people become addicted to it. It becomes like an impulse for them to make themselves a cup when they wake up or they say they can't function throughout the day without a cup. I don't like that.

There really are a LOT of conflicting reports, but most of them say that coffee is good for you. If you like it, drink it. I do. I've drank coffee since I was 6! (Epic mommy fail. lol. I never allow my kids to drink coffee, btw) In my opinion, if you drink a couple cups and it doesn't make you nervous or figity, then it's fine. But listen to your body. Everyone reacts differently to stimulants, and coffee is, in fact, a stimulant.

I myself don't like, never have, its just a preference of mine. I agree about not letting kids drink it, most really don't need the stimulant that coffee is. But I suppose when kids view it as a "grown up drink" it makes them all the more eager to go out and try it. Not saying it was like that in your case but in a lot of cases this holds true. The only thing I don't like about coffee is when someone asks me "do you want to get some coffee?". The first thing that comes to my head is "But I don't like coffee" lol.

Anything taken in excess than the usual, will always result to something bad. Studies ave shown that coffee has some anti-oxidants which could be beneficial to our health. However, due to caffeine in coffee, this could lead to palpitations, sleeplessness and shaking of hands, too. So it is better to limit drinking coffee to only a cup a day.

When I was still working in a call center on a graveyard shift, it is really impossible for me to be wide-eye by 1am. I just feel so sleepy. I had to drink at least 2 MUGS of coffee every night. And then I take another cup in the morning when I come home. I had difficulties trying to sleep when I am at home. I think I only had about an average of 3 hours of sleep for 2 months. Then I had to quit coz I was afraid I would just fall down due to lack if sleep. Just last year, I started drinking 2 cups of coffee a day. Then one day, I noticed I was having palpitations. I got scared coz I was hospitalized in 2011 and got sacred for having shortness of breath and irregular heartbeat. Well, is was not caused by the coffee but by severe dehydration due to sever diarrhea. Anyway, I feared for my life, really. So, I decided to stop drinking coffee for a week and, noticed that the palpitations stopped. But, hey, once a coffee lover, always a coffee lover. I got back into drinking coffee but I have limited myself to just a cup a day.

I heard about coffee having cancer fighting antioxidants too. But I just don't think it is worth the side effects. I definitely agree that it can be ok in moderation. A cup a day is ok, from what I know my parents drink two cups a day. I'm afraid that in the long run, I mean after a few years something like that could have a negative affect on our bodies.

Thank you for your input. I have to agree, there are two sides of the coin when it comes to coffee. You could say it has both a bright side and a dark side lol. After all your responses two does seem reasonable and a good limit to set for oneself when one drinks coffee regularly. I think its harder to get addicted to two cups a day compared to five.

Although I don't take coffee, because it is costlier than tea,I have read that coffee is much more harmful for health if taken excessive.Yet sometimes, especially while on journey,I take coffee.I love its taste, but can't afford buying it.Instead of coffee,I prefer to take tea.I have heard and read it is more harmful for health than tea,but since I take it less frequently,I don't have any experience about its adverse effect on health.

Where I live if you're drinking out somewhere like in a cafe, coffee is usually the same price as tea. Of course its much cheaper than coffee when you buy it at a supermarket. I don't really drink coffee either, actually never, because I just never liked the taste.

Take coffee once a day. Make sure that coffee is not too strong. Quality of the coffee should be moderate. More coffee is bad for health. Take care and be health.

Normal coffee consumption produces no adverse health affects according to the medical and scientific experts. Our goal is to define what normal coffee consumption is. The biggest concerns regarding coffee consumption is the amount of coffee creamer used in a cup of java. Many people will forego a healthy breakfast for their java. Drinking coffee to stay alert which could interfere with sleep habits. The one thing I know is that pregnant women should have no more than 300mg in a day.

Anything in excess tends to bring harmful effects to our body. That includes coffee, of course. It varies from person to person, to some a cup a day is enough. For me, my limit is 2. I even know people who needs to have coffee after each meal!

Good if it is pure and black, not from the sachet or ready to mix coffee. Most likely the limit number of cups of coffee is three times a day. My Barista teacher said that it's good to drink coffee only in moderation because if it's too much like drinking 5 cups of coffee everyday then you might get addicted to the caffeine. Everything has it's advantages and disadvantages. Like they said too much of everything is bad for you.

You're absolutely, everything in moderation. Unfortunately, it is the one in sachets or the granulated type that is most common because its instant and very easy to make.

I think that like everything in life coffee is not harmful if you don't drink to much.I drink one cup every morning and I feel good. When I was in high school I drank four coffees a day and my hands started to shake.

That sounds dangerous, I wouldn't want to have such a reaction after consuming anything. Maybe it was because you had so much caffeine at such a young age.

I think coffee has advantages for our body but its disadvantages are more. When we drink a cup of coffee everyday, I think we will suffer diabetes, because we consume sugar too much, when we drink coffee is impossible without sugar, it is unusual. Second, coffee is not good for our heart, it can trigger heartbeat higher than normal. I think if we drink coffee just for fun but not as habit it is okay, the negative effect of coffee can be control by our body.

I have to disagree with the statement that its impossible to drink it without sugar. Just like tea, you can drink it without sugar it just takes getting used to. I have to admit I only know a few people who drink black coffee without sugar but I know a lot more that drink coffee with milk and without sugar. This is including my dad.
