I have always been a major fan of Coke. I never drink anything else. I hate Pepsi. It is hard to hear that a company like that will be letting that many people go. That goes to show you the current state of things today. Although downsizing was always a thing big companies did, this time it is worse because of the world economy.

I agree. I hope the economy gets better. But we do have to look at the bigger picture. The world is changing and the game is changing as well. It's not like it used to be with business. With all the new technology and new ideas, business and work has changed. I think some businesses just want to do the same old thing. But in fact they to have to change to keep up with a changing society. So hopefully it will all catch up together and even out.

May be the company executives believe hire more foreign workers like Chinese or Indian workers abroad can save the company more money and end up with higher profit at the end of the year. It is quite disappointing to read that many American workers are lay-off by one of the oldest and most profitable American company that ever exist. It is just not right to cut American workers off while coke is making record profit every year and enjoying unprecedented corporate tax benefits and loopholes from congress annually.

They will be hiring back by all these American owned multinational corporations only when their foreign factory low wage and low cost operation are facing rising wage pressure inside foreign land, if not, you can only dream about it, it is all about which side is cheaper and can contribute to the bottom line.

I think more people are aware of healthy drinking as opposed to drinking sodas. I was never a Coke person as I always preferred Pepsi. But now, only drink a diet pepsi if I am having a drink with a little rum occasionally.
