What are the first things you do when you arrive home?

I am working in Europe at the moment and have not been back to my country for almost two years now. I am counting months and I am finally back once again for a year. Now, I am imagining that I have already reached my home ground. The first thing I would like to do is eat... eat the food I missed so much. Eating out there is not expensive at all. I am going to eat everything including the bad stuff. Of course one good place to have them is in the family. Family always comes first anyway in our culture so that means, I will be fed at home. All my favorites will be cooked at least for the first three days. Before my family gets tired of my presence then I will leave for the beach and stay there for as long as I like. I will just pamper myself of what I have missed so much for at least two weeks before going to start working again. I know it is tough after those weeks. It is going to be back to reality of being in a third world country. But there is no place like home. Now that I am undecided of my next step, then home is the best answer. It would for sure unfold thru time as I relax my heart and head in a more familiar place.

I can understand the feeling, because all my friends whenever they come home from abroad would really purge themselves with the local foods they weren't able to eat in the western world. Specially, those foods at home that they grow up eating, they really would ask them to be cooked for them.

Street foods too! I know they are not really the healthiest but street food in Asia is just the best. Asian people are nibblers as well that is why all kinds of food are sold in the street. I so miss this!:)

Yes, street foods are the foods usually eaten by the Asians when they are just roaming around for cheap buys.

I do the same thing. I call my mom few days before I get back and I tell her what I want her to cook. I love my mom's meals and I miss them very much. When I get back I sit on the table I talk to my family and eat that s the first thing I do when I get back home

I got a foster family in the southern part of my country. Whenever I visit them, my foster grandma would always prepare my favorites. It is always like a feast when I am with her. She cooks very well and we would even go to the market together to buy them fresh. I am over stuffed whenever I get to visit down south. Now that she is gone, my foster mom would always ask me what I wanted to eat. She also knows that I am a sweet tooth so the fridge is always full of desserts. This family is just to happy to see me eating all the time. I am not that young anymore but whenever I go there, i am treated like when I was only 14 when I first got to know them.:)

I haven't t of the country since I was 15 and then it was only in Canada so it's not that much different from the United States. But, when I'm gone from my house I'm usually with my boyfriend. And when I get home I usually get something cold to drink and watch TV for a minute. I don't like to watch a lot of TV so when I do it's only a show or two. Then I go to my room and take my meds and read for awhile until I'm sleepy and fall asleep. I know, I'm boring. I need to start doing some more cleaning soon as well.

One of things that I do when get home is to eat lots of seafoods because my hometown is near the coastal area. We usually have big squids, fish or shrimps and it just tastes so good! The seafoods in the city is really different in small town because you can really be sure that the ones you eat there is really fresh while the ones in the city where caught few days ago and was transported already. Besides, it is really cheap in small towns compared to the food prices in the city.

Oh yeah, fresh and huge seafoods is the one thing I am going to stuff my stomach with. I haven't been eating fish and shells here coz I just could not eat them when I know they were from another country. Even the frozen ones, it makes my stomach churn just by looking at them. I live in a place with good quality of meat but seafoods, nah! I tried cooking but I just did not enjoy it so even when I go to fancy restaurants, as long as I am here i will never order them.

I am working in my country and I haven't experienced what you had. But I have an overview of a balikbayan's activities when on vacation. I have several classmates who are living abroad and whenever they go home, they will contact me and I have to organiza a group consisting our classmates, and friends and have fun together share the foods. They order foods from street to kitchen foods. We usually go to the beach and have fun talking and eating. What is common among them are their love for our food.

First thing I do is to look who's at home and who's not. Then sit but the best is lay on bed for a couple of minutes. xx

Reaching home is always a beginning of relaxation and like all I too enjoy the time i m in my home. Side by side, I have certain liabilities like repairing some portions, checking health issues, etc. that i carry out when i m at home.
