painting a room

I need to paint my bedroom. It's white right now but needs new paint. Now what color, I like colors on the walls and I have to chose between them for this room. So I started thinking about color and what each of them brings to our lives. Yellow would be cheerful, blue restful, red has to much energy for a bedroom and I feel the same about pink. Green can be restful but I only like clear greens so would have to be very careful, some people even go for black, but I don't think I'd like that. Ideas anyone?

I like blue for bedrooms or a clear lavender or green. Cool colors are supposed to be restful. My daughter likes dark tan or some earth color. She never liked bright colors to wear either.

I understand your daughter, with earth colors you can add color with curtains and wall hangings as well as lamps.

Black is too much for a bedroom. I love black but for rooms I stay away from it unless it is used as an accent color. Greens are nice for a bedroom and earth colors. Beige, light brown, light coco and a sand like color. Thats what I have on my living room walls. Its nice and light and it goes well with the dark natural woodwork I have.

Tans or beiges are great in any room, they go well with any color curtain or wall hanging

@rebelann I agree. I also like grays and light grays with beige or tans or maybe a light sand color.

I suppose a light gray would be ok but I much prefer the sand or beige colors because it's warm @inertia4

Throughout my life I have always settled for blue, mainly because blue represents a cooler colour, it's pretty neutral and kind of soothing. I am not sure about red because that would make the room warmer, and my room is hot enough. Not sure at all about black, makes the room too dark! You could always go for a combo, different colours that blend into one another or different tones of a certain colour.

Colors can be tricky. Some colors look good in the brochures but when painted over a wide area of a wall it doesn't present a soothing atmosphere. What I did with my room was to paint two tones of colors. Two walls are in light grey while one side is in darker grey. The color in vogue this year is green and this color is not too bad for a bedroom.

i think that is great you are trying to paint your bedroom wall something new. i wish i could do that too. the walls in our room are getting dirty, it would be nice to paint it new again so the rooms appears clean and tidy. i think light colors on a bedroom wall is much better maybe light blue, yellow, green, or pink would be nice,,.it makes the room appear calm and tidy..also it depends on a person what look they are trying to create for their room..some would choose dark, others light colors..

I think light magenta, or violet, or aqua blue are best for bedrooms for a couple with white ceiling.

I personally like blues. I think a blue color mkes a room look warm and inviting. Blue with a white trim maybe. I love color too on my walls. When I moved into my home all the rooms were painted the same ugly beige. So I did the masterbed room in blue, the guest bedroom in lilac, the office/bedroom in a mint green. The rest of the house is a darker beige which I'm still not to happy about. One day I will have to change that again.

I once had a bedroom all walls painted dark green. It drove my dad crazy at the time he had to paint it. but it looked great with the bambu furniture and a lot of plants. This summer my youngest two will have a jungle bedroom so their walls will be painted (after the renovating of the walls) dark green as well. My present bedroom only has one green wall (at the head of the bed) but it's not dark green. Have been thinking about re-painting it but since the bed is way too heavy to move I won't do that. Also most of the time I will be in Hungary now. The bedroom walls over there are not painted yet. I have great green tiles on the floor over there and black curtains. I think I will make the walls dark green as well, although I would love to have them dark purple. It's proved you sleep way better if the walls in your bedroom are as dark as possible. So black would be the best, but I am still wondering if that is not too much. Might look great with the green tiles on the floor. The bed and closet are made of light wood so might be it looks great or?

I personally would go for something like a light powder blue. It's not only peaceful looking but very relaxing as well & that's exactly what you are looking for in a bedroom color because of course that's where you lay your head down & go to sleep each night.
