Overloaded and Pinched

Shall we get the weird part out there first? Those of you who know about St. Patrick's Day, did you ever get pinched when you didn't wear green on the day? I was telling a fellow mylotter about how around here if you didn't wear green on St. Patrick's Day, you got pinched. That's the tradition. I don't really celebrate it, it's just one of those holidays that come by and you like the decorations or something. And you always tried to wear a green something, even if it was a headband.
The other thing: I'm drowning in e-mails. I don't know how it got this way. I haven't been on vacation. But I have over 2,000 e-mails in my inbox, and that's after deleting several I know don't matter. So if any of you have e-mailed me and not heard back, I am very sorry. They are likely somewhere in those 2,000.
So, is anyone else familiar with the pinching tadition? Anyone else overloaded with e-mails?

You know I grew up in your area so I know about pinching. It may be that now adays it is considered to be bullying and it is not allowed or encouraged. I do not think it has ever been practiced here. I do not know how you got drowned in e mails. I do not know how many I have because Yahoo changed on me and now it does not give me a count. I could guess pretty well, though. I have e mails going back six months. One thing I do that helped is no matter what groups I am in in Gather, I do not get their notifications, as many people post to lots of groups and I was often getting five notices of each discussion. Including my own. The other thing I did a while back was to go through my emails and unsubscribe from many newsletters and so far.

Okay, so it is not Gather that is filling your inbox. Hmmmmm. Like I said get unsubscribed from everything else. No, I do not remember ever being hurt when pinched either. I think people do try to hurt each other now though.

Don't tell my fellow Gatherers, but I've already deleted all the group e-mails. I'm lucky to get through the people on my friend list.
Yeah, I was going to mention about how we had fun with the pinching at school, but then I figured people would be like, how did you keep kids from hurting each other or picking on one another? Well, we just didn't. No one hurt someone by pinching them. No one got angry. I went to a Christian school. I'm not sayint they were all Christian kids, but we just didn't do anything to really hurt someone. No bullying. It wouldn't be tolerated, and no one really did it. I was blessed. We did have two kids kicked out. But it was for something else. Let's justs say it was for something that would not have gotten you kicked out of a public school. We all had to sign a code of honor, and if you broke it, you could get kicked out.

We have it here at the other end of the Ozarks also. Being pinched for not wearing green, I mean.

So, I went out to the store with the roommate, yes I was wearing green.
I kid you not - I could've pinched nearly EVERYBODY at that store! I saw one manager with a green M&M shirt on and one guy with some green on his shoes and THAT WAS IT!
But I didn't...

I am mostly Irish, so I am all too familiar with the whole getting pinched thing. My extended family has a big St. Patrick's Day party every year for as long as I can remember. I have only been once in the last 8 or 9 years though. I don't really feel like making the 6 hour on way drive.

I've not heard of the pinching tradition for St. Pat's. Around here outside of wearing green people tend to endulge in some bar hopping and such.
I'm always drowning in e-mails. Even the adde's with clean up's don't seem to help. I've got much more than 2k! I think that's in my newest e-mail not my oldest that has only 2k of junk in it.

Nope...haven't heard of that, Ambie! I guess the leprechauns that I grew up with were far removed from tradition!
I do, tho, have regard for their Celebration Day..as I do have for most of our immigrants, as I think they have a hand in whom we are, today! They have helped form our countries, and at least this is a Happy day!

Although being of Irish blood we never did the pinching thing because I had never ever heard of it before. As kida, we would say on the first day of each month the following. Pinch, punch, first of the month and no returns. The recipient would say, 'a pinch and a kick for being so quick'. That's my extent of knowledge on pinching.
As to you emails - ditch them and start again. As for me - I am still waiting after 17 months to receive an email from mylot

hi dear Ambie, no pinching tradition here as no St Patricks Day here in Germany but I am overloaded with e mails as well. I have them in different folders but I never manage to get past this one here and can call myself lucky if I get to these which accumulated in the last two weeks.
Last week Saturday I was so tired that I slept all day and didnt get to my e mails so now I pay for it with typing away like mad and reading till I have square eyes. LOL

We never celebrate St. Patrick's Day back in the Philippines, but now that I live here, I experienced the tradition for the first time. I didn't get pinched though because I was wearing a green cap that day. I did learn that that's the tradition and I forgot to ask them why is that so.

St Patrick is now identified with Ireland and the shamrock very solidly. And the two are identified by green.
It is said that St Patrick explained the Holy Trinity by showing them the shamrock and explaining that while there were three parts, they were only One God.
