How does an employer selects or recruits a female employee? Is it her qualification, candidature and experience or something else? Is it the same process that a male candidate gets selected? Do the employers expects something extra than the normal and official duties? Aren't they expected to do some personal favors apart from the routine? I am not sure about all but experienced and learnt many cases where a female employee is expected to compromise if they wanted to secure a firm position in the organization.Who should we blame this for? The system ,males or we women ourselves?

In my country, it's more or less the same. The only thing they ask from women, and not from men is whether they have kids or plan to have kids in the nearby future. It's unethical, but most companies have problems with hiring ladies who would go to maternity leave, and wouldn't be able to come to work for a while after that.

It is the same in my country, and a bit absurd because a man can have a parental leave like a woman -- 6 months for 1 child to 3 years maximum, that can be took by one parent, or shared between both of them --. But the truth is that only 3.5% of men are taking this parental leave : the society has to change attitudes first, then employers will change their mind.

I'm sure there are abuses just as there are non-professional business people too, much too many I am afraid. From strictly the view of how a business should run not maybe not the way it does sometimes in reality, employers should hire based only on who can best do the work required. I think we can not have a blind eye to the fact that women and men are different as well as many other things like being single or married or with a family. All the factors in our life effect how we will interact in companies. These factors should not be taken advantage of. I know what you are saying here, the roles do apply differently. I think the front desk of an office requires special attention and most business people would like something attractive sitting there. That is one example I can think of, of not so official duties. I think as employees, we need to be firm and also knowledgeable on exactly what role we are willing to play?

I realise there are consequences for our actions and many do feel they need to do more than what they really want, in fear of loosing a job, pay raise or position.

Exactly Bluedoll, if employees firmly stick and opt for the role they are willing to play ,then I guess it can bring some change in the scenario!Otherwise ...sometimes its frustrating dealing with nonsense. Thanks friend for posting!

hi wishjui I ha ve no idea how all employers choose women employees but I do know from earlier experience that a lot overlook the resume if the woman is over a size 12 or is not young as I was in my fities and appilied tor a receptionist job in a factory that made sports equipment., The interviewer was pleased with my interview and called her boss to recommend me and I heard him clearly what size does she wear? anything above a twelve is out Mabel. So the receptionist mustt be in her twenties be pretty and very slim so resumes and qualifications did not mean diddle squat.

Where I used to work there was no difference with how we hire male or female employees. What we look for is experience, competence and educational attainment. However, there are instances when male applicants have an edge which is in production and maintenance departments. Physical strength becomes a crucial factor. There are labor laws that prohibit discrimination and if a company doesn't want to face a labor issue, the best it can do is to abide by the laws. However, there will always be unscrupulous employers who will expect personal favors and we simply can't eliminate that fact.
