Most know we live on a Llama Ranch. We have a garden and a few fruit trees. Each year we have the same discussions, to spray or not to spray, shall we go for organic or cop out for spraying the worm, and other pests. I don't know why we do this, for over twenty years we have not sprayed. Our plums are great and the apples go mostly to the deer and other critters. I would rather buy my fruit then introduce poisons into the fields that can work it's way into the ground water or even blow over into the Llama's fields. Well I win again, besides Hubby doesn't like apples unless they are in pie.

I would continue the twenty year tradition of not spraying, all my veggies that I grow are all organic, I don't use any chemicals on them, that way I can happily go out and pick them and eat them without worrying about washing them. I love raw veggies like runner beans freshly picked. Now I am the other way round I only like apples on their own, in pies I find them too stodgy.

Well today for lunch I made "fried apples" as one of my clients' mom spent a lot of time telling me I should do that. I did it the way she said. She comes over all the time or calls me on the phone. Sometimes it feels I spend more time with her than her son. I think the apples were good. I usually do them in the microwave. Neither of the gentlemen who live here have the teeth to bite apples.

I believe that you are really making the right decision to not spray on your ranch. I know that when I've attempted to garden at my home I opt to go the organic method as well because I feel like that is something that is ultimately better for us and for all of the creatures that live around us that might also be eating from our hard work.
Congratulations to you on winning again, but in the future, see if this is a discussion that you are able to avoid since it does bring undue stress.

Even if I were inclined to spray for bugs or worms I would not be likely to get it done. I tend to procrastinate. I like to put compost around the fruit trees. I am not really into chemicals and I like to encourage birds to eat the bugs. We even feed the squirrels.
