Why Is Food So Comforting During Depression?

I find it really hard to go on a diet specially when I am depressed, disappointed, or problematic. Everytime I have a problem, eating is always my first resort. Most people don't eat during this time, and lose a lot of weight. But in my case, it's the opposite. During happy hours, I have all the motivation to lose weight. But when problems strike, I no longer have the determination to go on. It's so sad, food becomes my best friend during the worst days of my life :(

I don't know. Maybe because they can stimulate our body and hormones in a really simple and effective way. It's like... no matter how a bad condition I'm in, what tastes good is gonna taste good and is going to make me a bit happier. When we are down, we reach to those things mostly which offer quick relief.

It happens to me the same way. I imagine that it has to do with the now forgotten feeling of full stomach and happiness we had when we were babies. I don`t know. I also try diets to lose weight, but those are punishments to my gluttony. So maybe I have food associated with happiness and apin.
