Depression is a negative mood that can affect a person's thought, feelings, behavior, world-view and physical-being. A person suffering from depression tends to commit suicide because he feels that he is worthless and he cannot achieve anything but failure. I, myself once suffered this kind of mental state in which I see myself as a nobody. Those times when I cannot foresee any success but only more failures and disappointments to come. And so, I thought of ending my life by not eating for days. Honestly, I really have no appetite even though I starved. I felt so weak but then after a week I ate but only three spoons of rice. So how did I overcome this? I just accepted my present situation. Yeah, easy to be said but hard to do. People cannot accept the reality, the truth where they are now that is why they are slowly being eaten by their depression until they will attempt to do suicide. Acceptance is done slowly, it is not a quick process. It needs time. Then, I stop regretting things from my past. After that, I attended some seminars to gain more positive outlooks in life. Of course, I pray and trust God. I know He will not give me trials if I cannot survive it, right? So now, I can say that after I oppressed my depression, I am better and stronger than before. So how about you, how did you overcome your depression?

You can't over come it and never will its there to stay but you can lessen it. Go see a psychologist and get medication. I'm on meds I take anti depression pills and anti anxiety pills. I learn about my condition and acknowledge my fualts. I also smoke to help me relax.

Are you dependent of the anti depression pills and anti anxiety pills? Well, I hate smoking actually but I understand you because some people are smoking to relax their mind and sometimes to boost their confidence.

I think my depression is not like before. When I feel anxiety I just pray or talk to someone whom can give me advice and can ease my sorrow.

Do you find peace visiting those temples? Sometimes I am quite paranoid to somethings that I am eager of. So instead of thinking positively, I entertain negative thoughts. Just like the other week, I thought that I cannot go on with my course. I even cried for days thinki0ng that I fail. And now I have learned that I have passed my Accounting subjects.

I think when we are in depression being with positive ones is helping us to come over our depression. accepting of reality of what has happened to us is solving 50 percent of our problem and that is really useful for coming over depression . doing some yoga and deep breathing and some affirmation also can be useful.

Yeah, accepting things the way they are is a perfect way to fight depression. For me, I always have this taught at the back of my mind each time I feel depressed; 'its one of those things in life you cannot change'. This believe helps me overcome anything depression in its entirety.

Good thing you have that perception Scoffield. I also think that way so that I will not be more depressed or stressed. Just like getting low grade on my major subjects, I just think that crying over it will not change my grade, better luck next time.

Going through depression is difficult. But being able to overcome it is something you should be proud of. I went through postpartum depression after I gave birth and it's the most depressed I have been. But it took some time before I was able to overcome it. I read books, I researched about it and found comfort when I realized that there are many others who are experiencing and has experienced what I was going through at that time, I talk about it with the people closest to me, and I tried really hard to still maintain a positive outlook. I usually find comfort through talking to someone so that's what I did.

postpartum depression? why? are you not happy after you gave birth? I really thank GOD because He is always there and He gave me real friends whom I can talk with when I feel sad again. Actually it is really difficult to overcome it. By now I need to overcome also my self-pity. I do not know because of my past, my self-esteem was also affected.

I prayed a lot and treated my depression as an aim to overcome, as a target in direct sense. And I started praying with the thinking my prayer can REPROGRAM my mind. And this thing really happened.

I really appreciate those people who pray a lot. :) Prayers are indeed the greatest armor in the battle.

I do not entertain dark thoughts. I keep myself busy and do not allow problems to swallow me. I always fight and move on after every failure. I believe that life is like a wheel. When you're down now, then you must go up the next time. And it happens. Everything in this world is temporary, problems included.

I found nothing better to fight depression but prayer. You'll find calm, joy and happiness by doing prayer. Then you can do your hobbies to forget depression, and try to feel happiness, by the way I wrote about enjoy life on my blog, you can check it out at my profile. Have a nice day!

I can say that you are a person who always think GO. Sad to say, those times weakened my faith but now I can say that I am more positive than before because of GOD. Because GOD listens to us and He will never fail us.

I myself have dealt with depression, so I know how it is. I have tried to just try to find hobbies I enjoy, stay busy, to try and keep myself distracted. I know there is medicine out there to help counter depression, which I used to think was a good idea and still is for some people. I think my problem is, I would start to rely on that medicine and would not be able to get off it. I can see why people could get addicted, but in a way, as long as its not harming your body by doing it long-term, I dont see why people could not continue taking it for extensive periods of time. As long as it does not affect your health, I don't really seem what the problem would be in a way. I just know how worthless you feel when you are depressed. When I get depressed, I don't want to eat or sleep. I just want something to make me feel better, to get my mind off the emotional pain. I have found talking to your close friends about what is going on can really help, cause I imagine some people would just keep to themselves, and keep all that negative energy built up inside, and I think that's the worst thing you can do when you are really depressed.
