Its fun but before i knew it just by watching anime in Japanese with English subs, i have been able to understand and learn it quiet fast now i know how to interact (basic) with any Japanese person. I hope i dont embarrass myself with overconfident but as days go by i feel i can understand the language better and better. It gives a new meaning for my attraction to anime.

you don't need to be embarrassed, in fact my eldest son is the same, he confided to me that " watching Japanese anime, I'm already beginning to understand what they are saying" Really i think the human brain would always adopt given a certain situation cause he really enjoys watching them

i know i also heard that when you listen to a language then learn its grammar its easier to understand them. Well all the best for your son as well.

Its a fun way to learn. If only the same could be said about reading in Japanese too. That's the most confusing part for me.

i agree i tired few words but it also seems fun considering its new to me this sort of thing. I can easily catch up in Hiragana and Katagana but its Kanji that is the real challenge, i bet even the Japs have trouble over it. Well if they can do it, i can too..

I have been doing the same thing for some days. But recently I find my Japanese learning just stops at some place that prevents me from going on. I am so confused cuz I dont think I could speak as a native in Japanese. Grammar is a bit difficult in my case. Its the sense of language thats pushing me to move on.

I`m the same actually I`ve been watching anime since I was 10 years old , now I can easily watch a jdrama and understand it without any sub , I even taught myself hiragana and katakana and now i can communicate with writing a lil bit if you keep watching for years you actually get a hold of the language naturally

I think anime is a great way to learn Japanese, but the most you could learn is maybe a few words and some phrases. In Japanese, there is both formal and informal, and sometimes, the dubs does not translate it properly. The more I learn Japanese, the more I realize that the dubs are sometimes off too. Fore sure, if you learn some grammar and words personally, and then watch anime, you will be able to learn more and enjoy it more because it actually makes more sense. As long as you don't get overconfident! A few years ago, I tried to have a conversation with a few boys who learned through anime, I was able to make a sentence to ask a question, and they couldn't respond at all. Learn the language it's fun too!
