Last weekend, I went to a movie and had the worse experience. I sat on the row behind a group of men. One of the man, I am not sure which one was smelly. It is the smell of someone not washing his hair/clothes. It made me feel like vomiting. I was trying so hard to hold my breath in the end I gave up, I walked out of the cinema.

The odd part is that the culprit never gets their own smell. One is lucky to have a well wisher in one's life who would do well to bring this to their notice. I can imagine what you went through. I too cannot tolerate bad odour. I have a very sensitive nose!

I wonder is there such a thing as body odour detector? They should install this at the cinemas, maybe airports, bus/train stations, metros/underground where a lot of people are confined in the same space.

In theaters and public places one finds heavily scented air purifiers which cover bad smell but sitting next or near a person who smells badly is beyond their control. I once mentioned it to a colleague of mine in a diplomatic way. She was ever grateful to me. Constructive criticism has vanished these days. People would rather tolerate nuisance from others but not set matters right. What's the harm in telling people what they have not noticed?

Talking to friends or colleagues, people we know is different. I don't think talking to strangers in the cinema is a good idea.

It was when I watched the Johnny Knoxville version of Dukes of Hazaard. It was an awful movie, and, behind me, some idiotic stoned teens were laughing so annoyingly all the time... (what's worse that last time idiotic teens did the same in an elegant theatre o_O... some people just don't have their manners...) (oh and one time I had to go out of a screening because I had to pee that much... which was weird, because I went to the toilet just before the screening started).

Speaking about people sitting behind, I have also experienced the chair being kicked or pushed by the person behind all the time. This is not common but it happened to me once.

Such things happen in life. There are people who can think from other's shoe and there are people who can't. The world is so vivid and full with people of different attitudes. You did the right thing by avoiding such a situation rather than going and telling to him that might have caused a bad exchange of words or even a fight. There may be many occassions in life with which we may not be happy.
