I always heard this two letter to describes people who is meticulously doing what a person usually does like keeping the house clean, organizing, keeping everything tidy and in order. But honestly I don't know what OC stands for, and I wish I had it also, but is it acquirable or they were born to be like that or is there any psychologically explanation for being like that.

you wouldn't wish to be an OC. for some severe cases, it is more a problem, than an answer, or a benefit. it's a psychological case. some of them. each individual i think has his or her kind of obsession, or has levels of obsession over things that they want, or want done. as i said, it can be mild or severe.

^^^^ That should help you better understand the disorder. Everyone who is struggling to make ends meet, might become frustrated because they want, but are unable to do better financially for their families. That doesn't make them OCD

More or less we are all born with OCD symptoms. If it goes to an extreme level treatment and therapy is needed. Some are obsessed with cleaning, some counting notes, some checking door lock etc. I have seen such patients very closely. There's no need to worry unless it goes beyond the acceptable limit.

I agree. I think we all this in one way or another. Personally, I consider myself OC with the way I arrange my clothes in the cabinet. I arrange them in terms of color and type of dress. I start with the light colors first and then to the dark colors. My brother on the other hand is obsessed with his books that he has to arrange it from time to time. He collects and reads books and then place them in accordance with size. I don't see anything bad with our habits as long as were not doing anything abnormal.

OCD meant means Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. I have it when it comes to cleaning. At least that is what my family says about me. I like to have a house clean at all times. So they think because I'm always cleaning that I have OCD. Maybe I do but I have never been diagnoised by a doctor. I believe we are born that way. I remember since I was a little girl always wanting everything in order and clean.

OC- Obsessive Compulsive It means that when a person would be doing things more than normal and would want it to be as perfect as possible. Example, one can be all hyped up cleaning the house, making sure that it is spotless clean. But with this disorder, one tends not to stop and would be doing it the whole time. Another example is when one would feel grossed out for not having clean teeth. So what he would do is to constantly brush his teeth which could sometimes lead to gum problems coz of the brushing, gums start to bleed.

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. I don't like this, because it's after all a disorder. However, even if i don't like it, i think i have it. I like our bedroom to clean and tidy always. In fact, i get angry with husband when i can feel some sand in the room, specially that we don't wear slipper because we had it in linoleum.

Yes it is Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. I'm not sure about the psychological explanation for everything that is associated with it. But I'm sure that those who have it can view it as a burden at times because some things can be taken to far instead of keeping it simple.

OCD is much nore s erious than just being cleand clean a person with that can spend an hour or more scrubbing her hands till they look raw or she will feel dirty., they have a mental disorder and its not funny at all. Some will be obsessed with locking up when going o ut and dithe locking up; then return four or five times to be sure its locked then go to work and call a relative to check that the house is really locked up . They need mental help of a good psychiatrist as it i s not funny but a real mental disease,

I also read in other forum that her roommate has it every-night her room mate will roam around the house to check if they are safe or lock, which she finds it weird yet she was comfortable at the same time knowing no one can enter their premises

You really don't wish to have that and being a neat freak doesn't necessarily make you one unless you need to always have things arranged in a specific order or pattern or wash your hands ever time you touch something or wear surgical gloves everywhere you go etc. Hoarding is also a form of OCD and the people that do that sure aren't clean. I would fall into the checkers category though I am pretty good at hiding it and its not very serious. The cause for mine is probably influence because I didn't have any of those symtoms until after living with a friend who had OCD. They were also a checker and perfectionist.

I think what you are referring to is OCD, or obsessive compulsive disorder, as other posters have said. It is not necessarily about cleaning. It is about compulsive and obsessive tendencies that are irrational. If you wash your hands once, that may be sufficient. Someone with OCD might feel compelled to wash their hands 5, 10, or even 15 times. They are 'obsessive' and it is beyond rational control. The tendency to become obsessive compulsive is largely genetic, but it is influenced by stress and the environment. Some people may go through spells of OCD, where situations in their life may set it off. I have heard of people who lost a family member in a fire who compulsively and obsessively check that every electrical device is turned off before they leave the home. It is about control. In a world where we cannot control the outcome and we stress about how our activities influence what happens, some of us tend to internalize it and try to compensate with irrational and imagined 'control' coping mechanisms. Some structures in the brain, the amygdala for instance, and other structures that control epinephrine in the body, tend to be overly sensitive in people who have this disorder. This would be genetic, but other environmental factors can influence sensitivity, like diet and environmental chemicals. It is also common in those who suffer ADHD and tic disorders. While many of us may wish we were more organized, the behavior of those with OCD tendencies or those diagnosed with obsessive compulsive disorder is somewhat different than a very meticulous person...but the line is not clearly defined. There is a fine line between what is considered normal and what is considered neurotic.

I have OCD when it comes to cleaning the house because I want things neat and fresh. However I'm really messy as I move around the house so I'm not sure if I have OCD. My mother has that when she is washing clothes. She so slow she makes sure it so clean but I think that is a waste of time

OCD is actually a disorder, so I don'g think you wanna have it. It doesn't only mean being obsessed with cleaning and stuff, but also, it could mean that you have to do little routines exactly in the same order and stuff. It would never leave you content, and could even have an affect on your social life as well. I would rather be messy than suffer from a disorder which makes me clean maniacally.

If you mean OC as in obsessive compulsive disorder, I have obsessive compulsive disorder and i don't think you would want that. I don't really benefit from having it.I have to shut the door than push on it three time's or i can't stay in a room.I never noticed it until my family started complaining about it so i try to slightly push the door now so no one hears me.
