Living within one's means...

I'm not sure if more people practiced this sayings. I have a friend who always complains about money not having enough, but I know he earns more than enough from his job. I've heard too that he owes money from other people. He is not on drugs or anything related to it. Yes, he is into gambling and being his friend I have talked to him about it that no one gets rich through gambling, maybe those who have enough to lose but for an ordinary employee I haven't heard any. How about you guys, are you one of them or the other?

I'm not into gambling, that's for sure :) Although when I was younger, I used to buy tons of stuff I don't really need. But things changed when I had my own family. I realized how important money and savings are that's why me and my husband are doing everything we can to save. But not to the point of starving ourselves and make people pity us. We still live comfortably, just living a simple life, less eating out, less shopping. I don;t see the point anymore of wasting money over useless stuff so as much as possible, we save.

Yes, some people always complains about not having enough but they don't do things to set it right. It's very simple, why would we spent on something or gambles ( a game of chance) if we can not afford it. In the end we will be the one to suffer, so the best principle about money handling is to save and spend not more than you can afford.

I agree, if one had save enough and had paid what is to be paid, there's nothing wrong if he/she treats herself/himself for a job well done once in a while. There's nothing wrong with that, but do it wisely too.

That's right. Although there's nothing wrong with spending once in a while, make sure to stick to your budget and don't go overboard only to realize you spent a lot over something you don't really need.

I do not gamble at all, unless someone would give me money. Anyway, most gambling stuff are illegal.. We don't really have tons of money so i always think before i spend any, if it is not very important or urgent i would rather keep my money. I do not lend nor ask money from others..

You have a very good principle with regards to your earnings. Yes, most gambling are illegal and sometimes rigged, so your chances of winning is very slim. If one lives with what he/she can only afford then I think there will be no more people who owes money from others.

Yeah, your right. So if you are a lavish spender it's sure wouldn't be enough. We have to practice smart living and spent money only if we can afford it through our income. Also, we must learned to save for the future and unexpected expenses.

That would be easier said than done. Some just work for themselves and maybe that's why it's easier to gamble and take risks. For those who have dependents, may it be children or pets or any living thing, they would strive to be able to provide more or acquire better quality. So for me it's hard to live within one's means because life would be meaningless if you settle for less.

Yes, it could be hard these days to practice such sayings due to the fact that the prices of most things are going up except the wages of the common employee. I guess , you can say that, to live a meaningful life and enjoy while the supply lasts but who will be the one most affected, it's ourselves. If we spend more than we can earn the most probable result would be, we'll be in huge debts. People now are spending more money to find fulfillment for themselves especially for material things, but we have to think too if we can afford it.

I live within my means and I don't gamble because I'm scared to lose money and I don't want to take other people's money especially from those who had to work hard for it, even with their consent, over and above the satisfaction if I get lucky. But then this is my nature. I understand that for other people, even if they earn a lot of money, it will never be enough. And there are also others who get addicted to gambling. I just don't understand your friend though. Why would he complain about not having enough money when he knows it goes into gambling?

I also do the same thing, I don't want to owe money if I can help it. Even me, I was hooked to gambling before but I don't bet more than I can afford to lose and it's very seldom. Yes it's human nature, we have no satisfaction but if one had the ability to control himself/herself that is good enough. I don't know what my friend's logic, he wants to earn easy money by gambling but sad to say, most of the time he lost. He always complains about not having enough but he don't see why.

Hello! It's really good to live within our means. Sometimes i was wondering that there are many people you think that they earned much than you but it seems that they are not improving or moving onward. I really experienced that, i received my bonus in our company, big enough to pay or shall i say i can buy thing that i wanted. But what had happened i came to realize that money is not the source of happiness and the money will just run out for how many weeks only. For me, I believe on God's principle that we live day by day through His mercy. And we live by faith in God. So i think God has a purpose on our earnings and He do something for it.

Yes, having money to spend wouldn't mean we can have everything. All these earnings came from Him so we should be wise on how to spend it. But some don't, maybe because some people wants to go with the trend or what is in. If they saw someone having a new gadget, shoes or anything new even it's out of his/her budget he/she wants to have it too. I think living day by day will also fall on this bracket, because you won't spend something if you don't have. Yes, money will run out but the love of God will not.

I am proud to say that I am on the works of being someone who lives within my own means. When I was just starting out as an employee on my first job, I lived payday by payday. I don't have that much debt back then and even if I had, I always pay them on time, but I was more of a frequent spender during my first few years on the job. But, as time went on, I have had enough of that kind of feeling of being helpless and hopeless for not being able to save any money by the end of the year. So, after much deliberation and sacrifice, I have started to set aside a portion of my salary. I started out small, and I think I still have little savings compared to others, but I am proud to say that at least, I have learned my lessons. It's still hard at times especially when there are some emergencies where money is needed or when some friends would ask me to hang out on a Friday night. The good thing though is that I am almost done with my credit card debts and was able to refrain myself from having more debts, and at the same time, I have learned how to live within my means and look for some ways to increase my income.

It's good that you have realized earlier that spending more than what we earned is not good. I guess if one had not been to such a situation we would not have changed our habit. And most of the time, our take home pay would not suffice against what we owes. It's just normal if it's our first job I guess, to treat friends or our families from our first earnings as an employee. But not too much, we can do it if we have some spare cash to spend. And we need to save too just in case of unexpected expenses.

Hi, I earn just enough to make me live, that is my wage money is only for food and nothing else. I managed to have extra things by doing extra work that pay big and I use that not on gambling or other bad vices but on things I use, household and personal items, remembrances of my toil and the result of my efforts. Looking at them makes me exert more effort to do more, earn more and save more.

Yes, why are some people want to live a life if their earnings can't afford them. Maybe to show off, but in the end they are the one who will suffer. If our earnings is not sufficient why spend more, it's as simple as that.I admire your principles in life my friend, I did the same thing, save while I can still work and I don't buy things that are not really a necessity.

I'm happy for you my friend. I don't know why some people are so materialistic, they want to have something if they cannot afford it. We must be wise and look for opportunities on how we can save like what your are doing. It's really a big help, in that way the money we have saved can be useful for other things. I have already talked to him about his gambling habit, that it will only lead him to bigger debts, but he don't listen to me. I guess I have already done my part as friend.

Hi, Living within one's means is very correct. Some people are greedy about money. They want more and more money. And they go on the wrong path. They try to earn money easily. Gambling is very dangerous. Some times it may make us beggar. Your friend is earning more than enough money and so also he is trying to earn more money from gambling. After losing money it's to late to improve.

I guess he is into this vice too deep already. He earns much but is not enough to pay for his debts. And through gambling he is hoping to pay them all in case he wins. I have talked to him already but he had turned deaf from my advises. I just hope he realized that he's ruining his life with his constant gambling.

Yes, I live within my means. I get a certain pride from living within my means. I'm even so nit picky that I actually purchase items by comparing cents per weight. when I graduate and develop a career I will continue to live this way, probably putting the extra into mutual funds.

I admire your principles in life. Yes, why would you buy something pricey if you can have the same quality and weight with other brands. The amount you have save can be use for other things. That is not being stingy but being smart, spending your money's worth. Keep it up my friend.

I am not practicing gambling at all. But I like intellectual gambling if I can call it this way - binary options. And they are the greatest emotional puzzle. When earning money fast - when one is seeing money rapidly & quickly go into account with no effort (indeed there is an effort in market analysis) a person can go mad, and wants more. When loosing money fast a person can go mad seeing the same digits of money rapidly lost from account. So I treat binary obtions like a nice income, but also as a snake. I mean not to play too much because it will bite. As to the gambling some people out of million will get rich through it, but others will fail. Gambling has no logic only emotions, emotional logic. Thats why I do not like it.

I have read about binary options too but I'm skeptical on how it works, aside from the fact that the investment is too big for me. Yes, this kind of investing falls also to gambling, although anyone is free to join with also need a bigger amount to start with. As you have said we can go mad if we saw the money adds up quickly into our accounts but it can be the other way around. Yes it's very different from true gambling because we placed a bet to win while the other one is investing.

I am what they call a little bit "tight fisted" when it comes to myself. I would far rather buy someone else a gift than treat myself to something. I always feel like I'm not worth the money.
