Cycling is a good form of exercise

More and more people have taken on cycling lately. It has become a trend. Yes it may be a good form of exercise, but most of them are spending thousands on the bike. They drive their bicycles somewhere, go for rides and often followed by eating and drinking late in the night. I don't think this is healthy and defeat the purpose of exercising in the first place.

Biking for fun - Biking isn't just for fun but it also gives health benefit.
Yes, biking has been really popular. My husband is one of those hooked into this hobby. Well I really don't mind because it is a very healthy hobby. It is just that he engaged in long distance biking so that sometimes I worry about his safety. He has two bikes and all very expensive but again I don't mind because he is working hard so he deserves something expensive for himself.

Good thing it works for your husband. My husband cycles too but there is no improvement on his overall physic. He is the type who drives the bicycle around and eats after a ride.

That's funny! But you know, your husband is not alone. I know a lot of bikers whose stomach are big just the same because they don't know how to control their appetite. Exercise and diet must go hand in hand, otherwise no success.

They just compensated the calories they burned by consuming the same calories at night! I also believe that biking or cycling is a good workout, and it is also a good way to appreciate nature. When the weather gets a bit warmer, we plan to go biking around town. We could use the exercise and being out after being cooped inside the house all winter.

I think we are spoiled in this country. Due to poor public transportation, everyone who lives in the city work hard to own a car. This has cause poor road safety for cycling. Cycling is mainly a hobby or an activity people do for leisure.

In my mid twenties I went to study and live in the Netherlands as student. There I had a 3 gear bike and I loved riding it to the university, shopping and for rides out into the countryside past pretty villages. A friend came to visit me and hired a bike in Amsterdam. Off we went cycling around that spectacular city. I came back to my place of study in North Wales and bought a 21 gear bike to do light work of all the hills. I found it kept me superbly fit and healthy. It let me save money too. I had a bright yellow safety vest on over my coat and I had a helmet. I lived in Kent in my cottage until 2005. I used my bike to cycle to work and do my supermarket shopping. When I moved to North Somerset I put my bike in my shed. I moved again to the same area in 2010. I wish to get my bike out again in the summer. Yes, the people are silly to cycle late at night to go out eating and drinking.

At least they don' t gain THAT MUCH weight if they cycle along eating, hahaha :D. But I understand what you're saying. But I think cycling is really good, because it is practical as well. Some people don't even cycle for living healthier, but because it seems an easy, cheap and fast mode of transportation.

Only stupid people who wanted to lost weight will ride bikes to places but will drink and eat a lot in the night. Haha. But some enjoys biking not purposely for the sake of exercise because they enjoy riding and going to other places.

That's true. If the person is healthy, there is nothing wrong. In the case of my husband, he needs to lose weight. I am trying hard to make him see the point.

Cycling is good for health. Everybody should do cycling every morning. It is like a exercise. You will be fit and active. For some people cycling looks like an adventure. Now a days people love cycling.

Hi, For me, cycling is not a good exercise. First, my wallet suffers from the expensive equipment, then my heart ache because I have no more money, finally, I may meet an accident driving down the road and worse, break my arms and legs never to ride it again. I'd rather buy a good pair of shoes and go walking around the block one hundred times to simulate traveling for one hundred miles on foot. That way, I have nothing to lose, I may even find a dime or two on the way to keep as my lucky coin as I go along.

I have been planning to do this a while back. But I am experiencing some pains on my knee joints when I bike over 15 minutes. Will this be more hazardous to me or am I just lacking in stretching or something before cycling?

If your joint is painful, I think you should avoid cycling or jogging. Stretching warms up your muscles. Maybe you can consider swimming as a form of exercise. It will not exert your knees.

Me and my cousins, enjoy cycling though we're are not pros, just amateurs. We just ride for fun and exercise. Our bikes are not expensive, probably less than 200 dollars. I personally bought my mountain bike for ~69 dollars, but eventually spent money for repairs and upgrades.

I cycle back and forth to work and stay in shape. I have one of the most inexpensive bicycles on the market. It takes a lot of repairs to keep it road worthy because some of the parts were made poorly. I replace those parts with better ones. I do have a thirty plus year old touring bike I bought new. It cost nearly six hundred dollars back in the day. It was a good investment though. It needs rebuilding when I get the time and money but it will be worth it. I put more than 32,000 kilometers on it. I do agree with out that good exercise is just part of the equation when it comes to health. If you like talking about cycling there is an interest here on MyLot. http://www.mylot.com/w/lists/3_28119/default.aspx Sometimes I feel like I'm the only person on the lot who contributes much there.

I love my bike. However, I feel my scooter gives me better exercise. It suits me more than an bike does. I can even carry bags home on the handle bars. I really love my scooter. But I don't have a car, so for me bike, and scooter are ways of transportation, more than anything else. http://www.customscooters.com/cs/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/mgCompositeLarge.jpg

Yes, you are right, cycling will help us healthy, but if we take unhealthy activities after taking cycling such as eating and drinking late in the night, it is not good activity, even unhealthy activity. It is a good idea if they have a rest by sitting or sleeping to maximize their health form cycling. Have a nice day.
