I Needed to Learn How to Cook

When I was single, I never cooked because I was busy working. Sometimes I would bring packed lunch cooked by my mother with me at the office or if I was rushing, I would just eat out which was often the case. At home, my parents and brother know how to cook, I didn't and I wasn't interested to learn. When I and my ex-boyfriend (my husband now) planned to get married, I had the most fearful nights...how do I cook if he asks me to cook our food?, will I ever learn?, will he leave me if I choose not to cook?, and a lot more what if's.
I needed to learn how to cook. My father was the best cook. My brothers are very good cooks. My mother cook traditional food. That's why I regretted not being able to ask them to teach me before I got married. I had no time to learn anymore. While preparing for our wedding, I was still very much a working girl. I am grateful to my officemates and gf's who recited one recipe to me at a time. Like, for this day, I would cook beef steak, I just listened to a friend who recited how to do it. Same thing the next day. In short, I learned how to cook not using printed recipes to follow. I learned from my friends who almost demonstrated the steps to me.
How am I now as a cook? I think I am very good and I can cook almost anything already. But I'm sure you'll agree with me that recipes we collect are a treasure for many of us, right?

I also need to learn how to be a really good cook. Like you, I have been working all my life before I met my husband. And I do not venture into our kitchen unless I am there to heat up foods that my mom already prepared. Now that I am married for a couple of years, I discovered that all I need to be a good cook is to learn how to follow directions on the recipes. But sometimes, they overwhelm me with such terms that I am not familiar with, and even if I did eventually know what it means, I wouldn't have the faintest idea how to do that.
I am still a bit insecure with my husband because between the 2 of us, he is the better cook. He is actually the best among his side of the family.

I'm not a good cook myself before. My major in college is home economics and technology and we have our classes in the kitchen to study food technology. After 6 months, I learned how to cook food. Now, I can cook almost anything on my own by just studying a written recipe.

I thought you are just to begin your journey in learning to cook... well I guess if it is runs in the blood it will be easier... at first it won't be easy because of the mentality "you don't know hoW"... glad you are ok now.
to answer your question... yes it is a treasure... specially if you really find it hard to achieve... or if you got it with uniqueness from the other recipes. Have a great day and may God bless the works of your hands!

I dont know how to cook too.I even remember the first time when i was left alone and I had to cook rice, were not using burners at home so I need to fire the woods first. I really wanted to cry when I couldn't just fire it without using a gas. Oh my the matchbox almost got empty before the woods lighted up. As a result, the bottom part of the rice was darkened while the top is still raw. The after that, I had to fry the fish. I am afraid of the oil so, I just tossed the fish from a distance just to be safe from the oil.

I started to learn cooking when I gave birth to my son. I need to be a fully-mother and one I need to learn is how to cook.
My Mom taught me. And now, I know some cooking techniques and some recipe. I still need to continue learning and experiment more.
Now, cooking is one of my hobby at home.

Well done for learning how to cook. When I worked full time as a teacher I was too busy to cook much. I made a quick meal taking less than ten minutes. I have a vegan diet. I like cook using my microwave. Now my kids keep me really busy and I can't be long in the kitchen preparing anything.

In my family, it's my mother and youngest sister who have the magic touch or rather the magic ladle or magic pan?
My mother had given up on me following on her steps as a great cook. She has lost count the number of times she has tried teaching me the right way of dicing and slicing and the right measurements of this and that ingredients.
I told her that I can cook okay. Well, that is, the kind of cooking that only my husband will appreciate

Hello Adval, I hope that you are fine! What lovely and inspiring story! I learnt how to cook when I was just married also. But I always had with me a good magazine or an old book from my mother´s kitchen. What is lovely and amazing here is your friend´s roll. That´s lovely because you got their help!
I´m sure your husband must be very happy with you! Yummie!
Blessings Adval... dainy

I don't know how to cook - yet. I guess most people learn it when they are kind of forced to do so. I'm going to learn it, I guess, when I move in together with my boyfriend. Okay, I can do some basic dishes (mostly pasta with some sauce mix and pancakes), but I still have a lot to learn

I learned to cook from my mom, who was into all kinds of cooking. Each day was a different culture, so I had my little 'play dishes' and made what she made while she made it and she would put mine with hers, in my little tinware dishes. Today, I do not cook. I am a raw vegan, however it stays with you. If i were to become married, I would be able to cook with no problem. I always loved the idea of an auto mat in the house, LOL. You make a bunch of sandwiches and leave them in the slots, and be on your way :)
