But I guess that could be down to the drugs lol. If you remember, today was the day of my Endometrial Ablation. The day didn't start too well as we all had to be in the Day Surgery Waiting Area for 8am. I was the last to be operated on, at around 11.45am..but at least I was told at the beginning. Nothing worse than being told half-way through the morning. Anyway, the first person (of 3) I chatted to was a male anaesthetist and he put me at ease straight away. He was lovely. In fact everyone who dealt with me today was lovely. The Nurses in Theatre also helped out in Recovery and I cannot believe how dedicated they are. My experience was so much different to last time..more people caring for me for a start. Before my operation no-one could find a vein so the anaesthetist very kindly gave me some gas as he didn't want to stress me out. Brilliant idea as it turned out! In Recovery last time there was just one person looking after us all, that was it..but on that day we were all Mirena Coil fittings. Today was different. Bit of a mish-mash with the operations and I got the impression all patients were similar in the fact we needed that little bit of extra care afterwards. I was taken to a Ward next door to Recovery after half an hour or so and there I was sick when the toast was brought out. 'Usually, it has the opposite effect,' said the Nurse. Aww. I felt really bad not being able to eat it but I was pleased I felt better AFTER I was sick. I was told a combination of anaesthetic and pain relief was the cause. Eventually, I was able to eat 4 Rich Tea biscuits and, in total, I drank 3 cups of tea. I drink them without sugar anyway and the effect was amazing. I just love the restorative powers of tea. In fact, I have one next to me right now on the desk. As far as pain goes, I've had a little discomfort down below and cystitis, that's been it up to now. Also, I've been given better medication than last time, namely Ibuprofen and Codeine (separate tablets) that I can take at the same time. So, to control the cystitis I've taken 2 Ibuprofen and 2 Codeine tablets, had a little nap, went for a big wee..no pain. I hope it lasts! This did not happen with the Mirena Coil. In fact, I probably ended up with an infection, something I'm determined not to let happen this time round. After I speak to Mum in 15 minutes time I shall probably have a bath..but NO bubbles, so I'll have to remember that. I have a very good feeling about this procedure and have a back-up appointment in Day Surgery in August. In the meantime, if I start bleeding heavily I shall need to see my own doctor. Hopefully, I might not need a hysterectomy but that will be an option further down the road, if this thing doesn't work. With fingers and toes crossed and prayers from my friends around the world, this just HAS to work..doesn't it?

I bet you are so glad you are over, I always think that it's the waiting around for the op that is the killer punch, it's all the fears of what might happen, will it work, will there be any complications, your mind can evoke so many what ifs.. and usually they are all negative. I sincerely hope it works for you my friend because I know the turmoil you've been in, and what you've had to do to get this far.

Thank you. You're right, the waiting was excrutiating for me, but at least I was told at the start that I was last on the list lol. I shall give you all regular updates and I bet you cannot wait for those!

This is why I like President Obama, Hatley as it's obvious he wants to TRY to change things regarding health in your great country, my friend. I really hope he succeeds as I'd be lost without the NHS (which, does indeed stand for National Health Service) as I wouldn't be able to afford medical insurance either, if we had to go down that route. Here is some background to the NHS if you want some light reading lol. http://www.nhs.uk/NHSEngland/thenhs/nhshistory/Pages/NHShistory1948.aspx

I hope this will fix you up and you feel better in no time flat! I came out of one of my surgeries sick as a dog and with a migraine that lingered for MONTHS! Actually had to go to a neurologist to try and get fixed up. I think its because I had 3 procedures in less than 4 months. I haven't had trouble the last 3 times I had to have things done.

I haven't had a migraine since I was 23 and I remember it like it was yesterday. Horrible aren't they? I had the type that go once you pass adolescence, fortunately for me. I wouldn't wish them on my worst enemy.

I just WISH it had been that long! I still get bad headaches, but not a serious migraine in a while.

hi janey I am glad your surgical procedure is over and you are feeling pretty good right now. I will send my prayers too that this procedure will work and you will not need a hysterectomy at all,. believe me the hysterectomy surgery is not so bad but for iaa long time after my hysterectomy I kept dreaming I was pregnant and woke up in tears,,Anyway I really hope you do not need a hysterectomy. Also I pray for you to recover in perfect health with no more problems at all. .

Awww, thanks Hatley. I know I said that I'd 'love' a hysterectomy as I've never been into kids, not really but, even taking that into account, it must be a weird feeling having the womb taken out like that. This procedure hopes to avoid all that as, like the Registrar said to me earlier, 'The more involved the surgery the more risky it becomes.' I understand the reasons WHY the medics have to go down this route as - I guess - with many women the Mirena Coil has actually worked. I was just one of the unlucky ones. My faith in the NHS has been fully restored my friend!

i hope you get things taken care of and get back to normal quickly. i hear from people that have had hysterectomys that it is the best thing that has ever happened to them.

I can see it from the medics point of view, in a way. They have to go down the Mirena, ablation, then hysterectomy route. They can't go straight to the hysterectomy like they used to. Having said that, if they did (in my case) it would actually save the NHS money as each procedure costs them. I've been looking at statistics and the money spent on hysterectomies isn't much more than the ablations!

There is nothing good to get relief from a medical treatment, specially after a surgery. You are feeling good and its a good news.

Many thanks. Still a bit groggy but it's to be expected I suppose. I've hoovered downstairs but didn't feel confident enough to hoof the machine up the stairs as it's quite heavy. Maybe tomorrow.

Thanks very much. I'm still feeling a bit groggy from yesterday but it does take time, by all accounts. I'm taking it easy which is the best way of dealing with it. I hate being lazy though so I'll probably hoover up a bit and - obviously - make something to eat lol. The cold weather doesn't help either as I'd love it if it were sunny. No doubt I'd go for a bit of a walk. I'm sick of this snow!!

I hope so too. I'm trying to compare the experience with last time (if I remember rightly I didn't feel right from the start) and this time I feel so different and..well..better in myself. This is a good sign. So long as I keep the cystitis under control, bathe regularly and prevent infection, I'll be back to normal in no time! Still tired though!
