Online contacts list not appearing always. How to get that?

When my yahoo mail opens, the online contacts list under messenger does not always
appear in the left side of the mail. But suddenly after sometime it appears or other
times it is not. If I want to send chat message, how to get this online contacts list?
Can you please help me?

I remember to have downloaded yahoo messenger long back. How to know whether I have
downloaded that? If I have not, then how the list appears sometimes under the
heading Messenger? Please guide me.

Me and my husband work from home. We are translators. Mostly, whenever I am online,
I will be working in a haste manner to meet the deadline, which will be sometimes
even half-an-hour to send the project and hence every minute is precious for me
at that time. Further my husband also will be sitting next to me with instructions
and guidance for the work, as my computer knowledge is limited and also as a help
and certainly I cannot respond for chat messages at that time. Of late I have some
health issues and I am rarely sitting before the computer except for mail checking
for few minutes. Hence please forgive me for not responding to your chat message.
I will check the contacts list. Thanks. Hope Madam Kalyani is fine.

Open a new gmail account and inform your all friends and relatives. You will not face any such problem about missing contact list.
