another thing that i hate about facebook

tonight, i experienced odd, funny experience as i chatted with my classmate in facebook. what happened was that as i typed words in my textbox, i saw words being displayed in it that i was sure not mine. i wondered and worried so much how it happened like that. so i said to my classmate that, please wait - i guess someone is opening my facebook account in this moment. i told her, some of the words were not mine for sure. so i log out for the moment hoping the intruder do not have an access to my account. but to my astonishment, things were just the same again.
so i told my sister who sat in the table using the pc about what happened. i saw her almost laughed. so i began to doubt. i asked her allegedly if she was that intruder who typed words in the chatbox. she denied, but i went to the table and they were laughing along with my other sister who knew about what had happened. with my overwhelming reaction, i pulled her hair with little bit of anguish. she was guilty but i know she was just kidding. but not so much fun, huh!
and here is my concern, why is that the program in fb when you had leave your account into another pc is that someone can open it without your consent. i mean, why is that the system will not close your account automatically like of another social or web sites. i understand that we should be careful and held responsible to what might happened when we forget closing it but; there are times you will go nuts and forget to log-out in there. this problem should be sighted beforehand because of our imperfections and being forgetful.
what do you think if i rent computers in the net cafe, for sure, my account has been hacked already. i guess, this kind of experience happened to some of us. that is why, some of the members open another account because they cannot open theirs for it had been hacked by some fools.
had an experience like this? please share - thanks!

When comes to public computers in the net cafe, I am a phobia of internet user. So far, I have not used any of the public computers except those in my office and home. However, I would always remember to log out so far...[em]happy[/.em].

before i used to rent computer in the net cafes because we do not have our own pc and internet connection. but now, my mother and sister agreed that we should install internet connection at home because having this nowadays is very important because of projects that required us to get online. when you are renting computer everyday, you will spend much money compared to unlimited access to the web you have at home. so that was why.
right now, i was having a little worrisome feeling. i cannot imagine to loose this account of mine because important picture documents were there and lists of friends also. i am just glad that i was just being kidded by my sister or else, i do not know what to do. i guess, i looks like a house mover, transferring all the things in the new house like in facebook, i need to download thousands of pictures and transfer to new account. hey, who would like that?! gee ...

yeah, generally - most of the people all over the world love facebook. it is a social site where you can contact your lost friends and love ones. we can chat in there or even do the video conversation. all of the activities may be posted within your likes and so. that is why everyone loves facebook

oh yeah! even those students who have classes, they escaped from it and then spent the hours to net cafes by playing games online or facing facebook. i had known some of them and handled during my practice teaching. so i can say that, students of before were truly different as of now :)

If you have someone close by typing and they are using a wireless mouse or keyboard they may very well be typing words onto your computer but not on purpose. If you think someone is on your account you need to change your password pronto.

i will really do that if that time i lost my access to my account in fb. but since i found out the real source of my worries, so i just rest assured that my fb is still working good and still it is not that bad and still handful or still manageable :) thanks

If you forgot to log out your Facebook account, better shut down your computer. This is always what I do in times when I am in a hurry, I just shut it down and when I turn it on my Facebook account is logged out.

that is a good idea but that day, the whole family is in the house that is why we did not turn it off because it was being used by the children or even my sister. so that was why, it was being opened by my sister as was the one who used it next. thanks :)

Its better to log out once you are through. I suspect FB has access to our other actions on line if we keep the FB open and work on another tabe. Keep the password slightly complex and change from time to time.

yes, we held ourselves responsible to log-off our account no matter what for security purposes. but sorry, during that time - i really forgot doing it. i was just much relieved when i knew real cause of it. i was so by then lucky still that it happened only inside our house. i was a bit panicky during that time. i thought i will loose my account in fb. i just cannot imagine if i'll do. all of the memories are there. but it is okay now! thanks :)

I had a bad experience on facebook too. Well maybe its because of my ignorance but it happened on fb so still it is a big part my that mistake. I tried to join on a heartbroken community and posted how miserable I am at that moment. I really said all my burdens in there no thinking about it could be also visible on my homepage. One of my friends in fb who happens to be my co-worker laughed at me that morning in the jewelry store where I am working and has told everyone about it.

yikes! that was irritably funny :D
but if i were in that situation, i will be upset or be ashamed - whew! how can one plays my emotion when i am in turmoil. i guess i need comforting words or moral support during that time not irritating words from friends - hehe! but no matter what, everything we do is our responsibility, i mean, we cannot force the admin to log us out. we are too lucky if they will do that for us hahah
thanks for joining here:)

Well, not all sites are logged out when we close the window. I always thought that when a computer switches off due to power cut and no UPS backup, we will be signed out of our accounts. But once it happened when I was using a computer in my college library. There was a power cut and the computer got switched off as it doesn't have UPS backup. I was logged in to Gmail when this happened. When the power came immediately, I switched on the computer and opened the browser and went to Gmail site and I was taken straight to my gmail inbox!!!
The only solution is to sign out when we are done!

oh yeah! that brownout thing. i so remember that the name of my nephew in grade four (elementary) popped up in my screen in a chat-box. and i read something nasty in there. i did not believe that it was my nephew because i know he cannot utter bad words like that. i was totally annoyed during that time and decisively wanted to interrogate his friends that know his password. i will really chastise whoever did that. but to my disappointment i did not trace who was it. my nephew told me that, he played fb games, and that he was not able to log it off. so i reminded him to be careful with his password and that must log out after using it.
so g-r-r-r :)

I have a sister that did stuff like that to me. Back when Yahoo chat was the thing I left me old desktop on and went to work when I got home a friend of mine was messaging me very inappropriately and when I asked what was up and why they thought it was okay to talk to me like that they asked me what was wrong with me that I was up for it earlier in the day. Come to find out my little sister had gone into my room and done the offending conversation. I had to start really putting tough passwords on everything and shutting it all completely down when not in use to keep her from doing that anymore.

this thing is kinda annoying but funny. i heard lots of stories once in yahoo chats. some of the users used to complain because someone opened their account or yet, kept it open and used it. what is worst is that, that jokes is totally wreaking you. you know what, here in the philippines - many cases happened like that because some of the person who did it will talked nasty and asked for money to any stranger. lots of users as well, cannot log-in anymore because the password was being changed. before you can change password easily without entering the old one. so that was why. so the risk is within us, that is why we should be careful :) gee - thanks

I have realized that as well, about 3 years ago when I was on the phone with my sister in law and we were talking about her friend. Then she asked me to check on her friend's picture. But since I was not a friend of that person, I had no access to her profile. So she gave me her Facebook log in details. Both of us were on her account at the same time and I was able to see the photos of her friend.
It is not only in Facebook that it is possible. It can also happen in Skype. I used to be a HR Manager and I also had my sister in law with the same job. I created a skype account for the HR and since we live far apart, we take calls from our boss using the same account sometimes.

yeah! one account in facebook could be opened by many in different pc's. that is true. but i do now know about this skype. never tried it yet. but since you told me that, i guess it is really possible. i guess it has a good and bad points. good to the point that like you, has access even it is being used with someone. but because maybe unallowed person could used it even you are you are opening it as your account. so thanks for this:)

My son had his FB account hacked and then there were a series of obscene messages from his acct to all friends and family. His email acct was compromised too. It was very tough to get out of that mess. I had to send a personal message which was not threatening but I was firm in telling the guy that he could be located and I had the support and guidance of a local cyber crime cell. it worked and My son was able to close down the acct.

whoa! that was much scarier than of my case. but glad it was being refined and goodly was closed formally. it is really annoying when someone will use it and posts bad words and there is nothing you can do about it. it happened with my nephew's account. and the intruder used to send me bad words. and told that person if i have the chance to knew him or her, she/he will better watch out. so that was why, i asked my nephew if he has a friend who knew his password. he denied but he told me that he used to surf the net and play games online. maybe he forgot to log off too. so that was why, i told him to change password and so he did.
so we must better be careful :) thanks

I'm sorry to say this, but it shouldn't be considered Facebook's fault. I'm pretty sure there is a box where you could tick that you don't want your data saved by the computer. It's common sense - at least for me. I would never ever leave without logging out in a public place... it's crucial, it's not something like a pen, which is like, oh I forgot it there, whatever. We personally should be responsible for our data, not waiting for the site to act so. Especially since in other cases, the saved data can be really useful. Like at my laptop, which only I use, it's better than typing in my pass and username again and again.

do not be. i take half of the fault :)
it is not public either friend. it is just in our house but commonal pc for the family. yeah, i guess - i would like to suggest that, when few minutes is passing and that you became inactive during that time, it is good for the author or programmer to design a program that will log off your account automatically like any other websites. i guess, fb is giving us options how to set our settings in here :)
i should take this advice :p

thanks... yeah, everyone can experience this kind of problem. that is why we ourselves required extra carefulness to avoid this. whoah! i cannot give up my fb, i have plenty of memories in there like my pictures, friends and else. so that is why we must be careful for the risk is totally ours and our responsibility and not of the fb itself :)

Hi there ! I haven't experienced that also but my friend experienced somewhat like that , when my friend saw her self online in my PC and she didn't even logged in Facebook. It is scary , her facebook was hacked and we don't know how ! So i guessed the best thing to do is to log off our accounts even we used our own PC and never to place sensitives files in PC , nothing is safe in Internet.

during that time, i feel abated momentarily - even it is being exaggerated to use this term. but really, i wondered heavily why there are words being included in the chatbox which i am certain i did not type it all. yeah, internet is not safe i may say too. there are lots of nerds and hackers in this world who can penetrate your system and pc. it could be a source of a problem. so we must be careful :)

Almost all of the game apps on fb take forever to load... And once they manage to load dey reduce d speed of the system to a bare minimum.. This is so frustrating... I end up having to restart my system to regain the initial speed.. And this is not only me.. A lot of my friends complain d same too

i do not know the reason why it is so slow in connection when we are playing games in fb. i guess, it has something to do with you processor.
i really hate it more if i am playing tetris, quiet frustrating because you tend to loose in the game because of the slow connection. so now, like you guys, i rarely plays now in there. thanks all ")

I have heard from someone that Facebook tends to load faster on Mac computers than on PC computers. I have noticed that slow speed as well and I use a PC. It is why I rarely ever play any games over Facebook anymore. Maybe someone that uses a MAC can verify this idea.

Oh.. really! Thank you for sharing this with us here.
I was not aware of this. I do agree with you, at times
we are rushing and we totally forgot to log out. The
system should be able to log out once it is left idle
for a specific time. However, it is tough to decides
as some people would not like it. Some system have
the feature to request to log in again by notifying
that the page has expires.

hello iriene. i am grateful that you found this discussion as a good point of information. oh yes, it should be designed like it or yet, we are giving an option like this that when it gets idle, it will just log-off automatically to avoid intruders in case we will forget to do such.

i guess i am just lazy to even turn my laptop off. and that i am quiet confident that i already logged off in it but to my sudden unknowing awareness, i leave it open and my sister interluded with our conversation with my classmate. it alarmed me really, knowing that someone had got into it. i am just afraid that someone will change my password and i cannot totally have an access with my account. but i guess, it needs confirmation to do it so by typing my password. thanks :)

It is worrisome at times when I forgot to log out of Facebook in my own computer because I know that anytime my account can be compromised if and when my laptop is stolen. I know how you feel and we have to admit it, we need to be careful with our account. It is part of our lives now and protecting our account is our sole responsibility, whether we like it or not.

Sometimes, a lot of things happens at FB due to our being careless. So let's all just be careful when we are at FB.

There was this incident also where my cousin forgot to logout his account on facebook. And his friends use his account and posted something personal though there intention was just for fun. But on our side, some of our relatives have read that post and thought that it was true. To the point that the father of my cousin confronted him. But was long time ago, and that issue was already solved. That's why we really have to make sure that our accounts are logout before we leave it. Also, clear history, cookies on the browser that we use.

Facebook accounts have been known to be hacked. A way to protect your account is to change your password on a computer that is more secure than a rented PC. Also set up a security question or something that only you may know. Facebook can be a good thing, but just like everything there is always something that can go bad.

i agree with you elvish. i guess, facebook admins have another way to protect our account. we were being asked about our contact number, email, or even security questions so that when we forgot or loss or password, we can retrieve it by answering or choosing which one as to where they have to send our information about password or if we can answer the given question which we used to choose, they will grant us to have an access to our lost account in fb. we should be careful, so that's it:)
