I've been thinking of keeping a journal, actually online. I like the idea but tend to forget to write in it. I would like to start writing in a journal/diary more often.
What do you think the benefits are of having a journal?
How often do you write in a journal or diary?

I used to keep a journal couple years ago, as I was going through a lot of painful experiences and so writing kept me going. Everyday I used to make a note of what I did. Those were some hard days to go by.
Keeping a journal is a good practice and I think you should start writing one soon.

I agree a journal is a great way to practice self discipline. I want to sart writing my own journal. I want to keep it purposeful and not a report of mu mundane activities.

I blog and I do get some visitors to my blog. I suppose a journal is more personal. I have never maintained one although I do get inspirational ideas from time to time. Writing down ideas and visions is a good way of actualizing them in real life, I've been told.

I had wanted to keep a diary or a journal ever since as a girl. Problem is, I can't stand a constant habit. No, slash that, I don't want to be bound on one habit for a very long time. I'm always susceptible to changing my actions every once in a while including keeping diaries. If I do write, I can write until some days before I change to a habit of crocheting or some other activity that involves the mind.
Before, my life was so constant it's getting tiresome to just write in my diary the following in every page/day:
***
"I woke at 5:30 a.m. I dreamed again. I always dream. This time it's about (more ranting). Anyways, as always, I get up to eat a light breakfast, went to bath and dressed in my uniform to go to school. At exactly 7:00 a.m. the village cab took me to school. At 7:20, I was already sitting down in my classroom waiting for another set of boring lectures to come for the entire day. At 5:00 p.m. I went home. Dying--actually, it's just stressed out once again and just wanted to rest. But I still had a homework or two sitting inside my bag and I had to finish them or I'll go to school tomorrow once again without making the assignment. It's a frustrating life. Really, one life I'd gladly jump from my school's rooftop.
Would it ever change? Or would it come to the point where I die following the same routine for my entire life? For I know with certainty that once I free myself of this school I'd be wishing to jump off the building where I'm going to be working, next."
***
Now that I have some time of vacation, I frequently change what I do. School taught me to hate a constant pace in life that I fear I would have to follow for forever unless I do something to change it. Now I'm having the time of my life doing everything I can to change things but even keeping a diary seems impossible for me now. I think I'll start keeping a journal or diary once I find that I can't remember anymore my past days...Yeah, I think I'll do just that. One problem with a head like mine, I can remember a lot of things. Actually I remember too much and it's becoming a problem.

Before I write to my journal almost everyday.... but right now instead I call it journal I called it my letter to God, reporting everything I did for the day and all the things that makes me happy and sad and thank him for everything!
Hope you make one soon.... and tell me your journal Url so I can visit it. you might want to turn it into a little source of income hehehehe!

Journals are great as they allow you to let out all your problems without speaking to anyone. This is especially helpful if you have a problem which you can't tell many people, after all it's not good to bottle it all up inside!

I've journal-ed on and off for several years now. One of the primary benefits of having a journal for me was when I was dealing with life situations or personal growth issues that I needed to sort out. Keeping a journal helped me process things as I was going through them.
Another benefit is that you can look back and review where you were different points in life and see how for you've come (or how far you haven't!). This can help you chart a course for the future.
Lastly, if you enjoy writing, keeping a journal can be a fun, creative way to express yourself.
One word of advice... take some time browsing until you find the journal that is just "write" for you. I've gotten some really expensive ones that are nice but it's not necessary to spend big bucks to find one that speaks to you. The last journal I bought came off a clearance shelf at Wal-Mart!
So go for it!

I like to write and I like to write in my personal journal. Nowadays, personal journals are digital and published online so there should be plenty of opportunities to record one's thoughts. But I find the online journal somewhat intimidating. It is so clean. It makes me afraid of making mistakes so everything has to be perfect or near perfect the first time around.
And of course, there are issues with public journals. Anybody can read it--my classmates, my friends and ... my enemies. Because of this, I think online personal journals should be limited to work-related stuff or hobbies. Anything more personal will be difficult to manage.

I used to have a diary in my early marriage. I would jot down events and occasion as well as what i feel for that day. Usually it's not everyday that i wrote on it, but only during those times when i feel like expressing what i felt.
However, i stopped doing so, because i realized , i mostly write on it my sad and hurt feelings. That's what i realized when at a time, i reviewed all that i have written.
It made me remember by reading them, the past hurts that i felt. Thus, i stopped having a diary.

That would be a great idea! Writing your journal online. I am actually keeping a journal because I needed it with my present job. We are being asked to prepare a personal evaluation every six months so it would be easier for me to track my passed activities.
But keeping an online journal can be a good thing to do.
Have a wonderful day!

I used to write journals, then I was me-blogging. Now I kind of don't do it. If there's really something I wanna write about, I have my blog to just write a post about it, so I use it mostly as therapy or anything. Or I post it on Facebook, if it's funny :D.
A journal is actually great if you feel bad about things, because it acts as therapy, and calms you down as you write them down. Also, it's great to look back at what you wrote back then after a while, it's so funny and nostalgic! :)

I've always been tempted to do this myself but what I resent is the lack of attention you get online. Its a great and often attractive idea to keep a journal but for most other people its just a thing they might browse through. You have to be famous for anybody to pay attention to a diary. Still, if you will enjoy doing it then you should, just don't expect any great shakes from it.

I've had a journal for a while now and I've found the key to keeping one is to not force yourself to write. At first I would write maybe a few times in the course of two weeks but soon I began to write every single day. As more things began to happen to me and stress me out it was easier to write all my emotions down rather than keeping them bottled up inside. You don't have to write every single day, then it turns into more of a job rather than a way of expression. Whenever something is weighing heavy on your mind and you feel that you need to let it all out, that would be the perfect time for you to write it out in a journal(:
