Trying to type

What is it with cats and keyboards? When I had my own typesetting business, Mona would sit on my lap when I was typing. The set-up was a bit different and I could get at the keys more eaily. But modern computer keyboards are rather flat, and when Harmony sits on my lap, she pretty well blocks access to the keys. That's when she isn't actually trying to walk on them.

Cats don't type, and they don't want you to either.

Yes, and it applies to reading, crocheting and many other things.

That I know. I can't do a couple crossword puzzles in bed before turning the lights off without Harmony wanting to sit on my chest. Makes it really hard to see the page.

She wants to help, she can't understand why her human should want to spend time at the keyboard when she should be tending her every need (Harmony's) after all humans are put on this earth to serve the cats!

And that's the way it should be according to the cat population!

She gets most of her needs met most of the time, moreso than I do, anyway.

That is part of why I keep my keyboard tray under the desk and "blind" type. Even if I don't NORMALLY have brats, I mean cats, in here.

I remember when I had that trouble a few years ago. As long as I kept the brace on and didn't move my fingers too much, I could touch type with my left hand and more or less hunt and peck with my right. It was interesting, to say the least.

My right hand started to hurt today, and I'm hoping it's not the symptom that indicates I should get neck surgery. But I'll start a discussion about that.

It is a funny thing your cats like to sit on your lap when you are typing.I don't know what the old-type keyboard was like.

Well, they sat higher, more like typewriters.

If I put her out she starts knocking at the window in no time to come back in.

I end up with lower back ache through sitting awkwardly in order to accommodate a cat on my lap whilst I type. My own fault entirely, but I can't possible throw the cat off.

No, we definitely can't throw the cat off. They curse at us if we do. And who wants to be cursed by a cat?

Nice pet you have there. It lessens the stress while at work for you perhaps elevate the keyboard by settling it on a thick book?

I've never owned an indoor cat and a keyboard at the same time, so I haven't had this problem. My mom's cat only interfered with her reading, since Mom didn't do computers. Of course when anyone called, the cat went crazy because she was on the phone and she tried to mess with the phone. I think it's just that they are jealous of anyone or anything taking attention away from them.

I think you're right. I was trying to do some crosswords in bed last night before turning out the light, and Harmony kept getting in my face and nudging the book so that I couldn't write.

My cat Daisy does that too. I don't really know what it is with cats and keyboards. Maybe it's because they don't like the sound of typing. Or maybe they can sense the fact that we may type or be on a computer the majority of the time and figure it's their turn for attention? My cat likes sleeping on my keyboard, but I think its because since its running all the time, it stays warm. And the cat likes the warmth.

Harmony leaves my keyboard alone when I'm not using it.
