Hello friends,
I really like science especially physics. So I started few discussions but i got less replies. Then i left mylot for about a year and then came back. I went through an interest and found out that on one has posted any discussions related to science. But there are lots of discussion in other type of interest. This is the main reason why i began to lose interest in mylot. So why are people not interested in science?

When I was young - grade school and even high school student age - "science" was mysterious, an esoteric subject almost only meant for the brightest intellectuals among us - Tesla's and others like him - Madame Curie types. I was more artsy and literature bent. But then in college I wanted to major in Mental Health/Human Services and found I thoroughly enjoyed all the psychology courses I had to take and guess what? Psychology is science. We also had to take courses in Anatomy and Physiology, Pharmacology, etc. Those, too, are sciences. And then, about fifteen years ago, I read a book about the Cosmos. The beginnings of the Universe. I didn't understand all the physics involved as I am not a mathematician by any means, but I still enjoyed it. So I read more, and did some more research once I had internet access and computers. while still not a scientist in any sense of the word, my understanding of physics has grown tremendously. but I still feel like an idiot if I am involved in discussions about it because I don't sound like a scientist or know all the proper terminology. So I stick with reading about the Universe on sites geared towards Cosmology or Physics for Dummies. They satisfy my curiosity about our world and life without making me feel as small as a molecule in the great schism of things...lol.

The Course above you said Anatomy and Physiology, Pharmacology are part of MBBS. You are right they are science. I didn't meant science as physics itself. I am happy that you have gained interest in physics especially in cosmology!! But one thing,There is a difference between mathematics and physics. Though physics can be explained by mathematics, not all mathematical equations can describe truth in physics. And one thing,Physics heads all other branches of science. Like Chemistry can be explained purely from mathematics and physics!! Stunned??!!

I don't think Theory of relativity is proven my math.. It was first proved by lorentz by mathematics. He thought that it was a trick. Einstein proved it through physical principle. I have Theory of relativity book.

My philosophy has always been one can't argue numbers. Numbers can, of course, be manipulated - but ultimately, math is at the head and heart of all sciences. What is music without math? While theories of physics and cosmology can be explained with regular words and thoughts, it is through mathematical equations that they are proven or not. The Theory of Relativity, for example, can be explained with words, but it's the math that proves it's existence.
My thoughts, at least!

You should not think like that. You will learn only when you discuss. If your that interested,i will tell you a website that promotes science.Though you won't earn any money. But i prefer that site than this as here less people are interested and less comments. So no active discussion can be hold.

They are not interested in science is because I think, they are more interested in religion? Ha ha ha ha Yeah. I have noticed that when it comes to religion topic, they are lots of them. Anyway, people have different interests and it is just happen that most members here on myLot are not interested in science-just most of them

I think one day science can give answers about religion.. I think science can show god may exist or it can create that sort of conditions..

I think, back then, physics was more attractive because it was something new, and people usually had more free time and energy to think about heavier issues like that. Nowadays, people are more drawn to lighter things in their free time, because they are exhausted. And as for myself, I don't understand physics and science, because I have a communication/art mind.

A discussion on physics will likely be among physicists or engineers. Maybe, there should be some designated physicist here at myLot and everybody else will take sides on some debatable issues. "My balls are bigger than your balls," one physicist would start saying. And then, we will all examine the evidence.

LOL - we would all need to "unrestrict" our settings for that discussion!

Hi,
You are right. I also think that people are less interested in science. They are interested in discussing their experiences in life. And sharing their feelings.

Yes. They only discuss only these. Do you know why less people are interested in science? If you are really interested in science,i will tell you a website where we discuss only this.

Because science is not for everyone. Not everyone understand it's abstract concepts. I f want to make them interested explain them like you would explain a child. As Einstein said If you cant explain it to a six year old you don"t understand it yourself.

Science is for everyone, it's depends to each individual who wants to understand science,
Like me, sometimes I love wants, sometimes I wont, science amaze me, and sometimes wont
If you want them to be interest in science,
Show Science To Them, Show what Science can do, and when they got attracted or amaze to science, I know, they'll love science..

Honestly, I am so much interested in Science. Even I joined here in Mylot thinking that I could do some posts related to science. But I couldn't find any apt place or interests to post those. You said that you have made some posts regarding science topics. Therefore can you inform me where you have made those, if possible I will also comment or reply with my views.

Most people have an internal treshold for interesting stuff. And science in general will not make the cut. I suspect this is because they are not as proficient talking technical stuff than ordinary everyday happenings. This means they don't have the words to say something sensible about the subject.
If I start discussing shear and moments, I don't think I'd get any response. As it is, I'm having problems getting responses for seemingly typical activities like writing a book. But then again, it might not be as typical as I believe them to be.

Because its very boring and too much technical. Those formula's in it are really brain eaters. I was always afrais of scince and maths.
Happy myloting.

You have seen the opaque part of science. Science is very enjoyable, you should try to read a very good book. You can try Physics Of Impossible by Michio Kaku.

I think the reason people aren't really interested in science is because it's not presented in a very interesting way that grabs people's attention. It's all very complicated and not always easy to understand.

Welcome back. I am extremely EXTREMELY interested in science! I would be glad to have discussions with you! I am fairly new here so wouldn't have seen your discussions before, and people on myLot tend to talk about... less interesting stuff than science, so it is difficult to sift through the junk and find interesting discussions. I also haven't noticed any articles on science which would have made it difficult to find the science "interest" on myLot. I will go find the interest now and I'll be sure to look at your future discussions :)
I also know how you feel, when a post about what someone ate today gets 20 responses and something that is actually interesting or could spark a good debate gets 1-2 responses, it is a bit discouraging.
