What Makes it Difficult These Days to be Healthy?

March 28, 2013 6:57am CST
A long, long time ago, people are a lot healthier. There were not too many artificial and unnatural ingredients that you could see in the supermarkets. A lot of food choices can make a lot of people very sick in our generation. Besides food, other factors contribute to the risk of getting serious diseases namely bad lifestyle, natural calamities, greed and poverty. I believe that the more complicated and extremely delicious a certain delicacy turns out, the more you should suspect it's not really good healthwise. A lifestyle of a couch potato, the smoker, alcoholic beverage drinker, the consistent late sleeper and many more could aggravate some health issues. It's very difficult these days to stay healthy. What are your thoughts?

I think the real problem is failing to develop the healthy habit. We usually take health for granted when we are young so during those crucial years, we don't develop any routine to keep ourselves healthy. Of course, I haven't seen a comprehensive health book to give us all the information we need. Most of the time, we have to look for the information or worse, we grow up completely ignorant about basic health information.

Some very good points...bloggeroo! Thank goodness, we have the right to question and appraise ourselves are what is in our foods...many years ago we didn't have to do that, we could ALMOST trust our foods! Today, one has to be very cautious of their intake, as there are HUGE companies that are playing God with our foods, and the very wisest of the population in the EU and Asia, have banded together and said; "NO" to big chemical companies and have forced them to LABEL all of the GMO'd foods. NOT in Canada, and the U.S. why I'll never know! For reference only; www.mercola.com is a good read!

I'd really like to know your evidence for this claim. None of the things you mentioned are exclusive to today, people were all those things and worse in the 1600s, 1700s, 1800s, 1900s and so on.

It is because we have become accustomed to eat take out and drive thru's instead of having to cook for ourselves. And sometimes, if we do want to eat as healthy, we just do not have enough time to prepare our food coz of work and a lot more.

Hi Adval, I think the real reason its difficult to be healthy these days is because so many product at packaged with so many chemical and additives and the majority of people just can not afford to purchase organic foods..I think all foods should be organic especially if its proven better for the human consumption....

Products we use right now have different chemicals that is not present in the year of our grand parents. Junk foods is all over in the grocery stores. Unlike before, they only eat healthy foods like vegetables. I think the modernization is changing the eating habit of everyone.

For me personally it is hard to eat healthy because health food is so much more expensive than other food! I know I find it hard to be able to afford healthy things...

I think it depends on lots of things. First of all, most workplaces don't require exercise and movement nowadays... and most people really have to work 8+ hours. Also, now the unhealthy foods are the ones which you could get cheaper.
