All sick patients have certain rights and privileges when seeking medical treatment, but not all rights and privileges are protected by law and some of them may be withheld especially in emergency situation. I can give one example that we may at any time in hospital withdraw our consent and refuse further treatment.. So what are the other rights and privileges you can think of ?

Hi alpha9180, i think patient has the right and privileges to choose their own doctor freely. This is to enable the patient has the comfort and confidence to recover from their illness. Also, patients should have the access to health care facilities and emergency services regardless of their age, gender, religion and status. I have come across a general hospital whereby the nurses are really lazy and may have discrimination towards certain patients that are too old or troublesome. When we call them for help, the nurses even ignored us and ask us to wait, while they are just wasting time chit-chatting. There are many rights and privileges of a patient that one can share as i study from this website (http://healthdrip.com/patients-rights-and-privileges/). Have a great day ahead.

Glad to hear your ailment is under control. Sorry to know you had to face such trouble over a so-called specialist surgeon. Some doctors nowadays do lost their ethics, and only concern for profit-making. What a shame this is.

A patient we call over here a client! I think this word already says enough. A client has rights and pays for quality! He/she should be treated like a client not like a stupid patient that should be grateful if the doctor/nurse/hospital can find some time for him/her in 3 months or so.

Nowadays doctors or even specialist, their inclinations are more towards doing business rather than the proper ethics, just because patients are covered with medical insurance as they can charge a bump sums. In principles and medical ethics, an physicians should be dedicated to providing competent medical service with compassion and respect of human dignity..
