When I was in Junior high all of us girls had to take a year of home economics, it was 1/3 designing, 1/3 sewing, and 1/3 cooking. Honestly didn't do that great in the sewing and decorating parts, but I fell in love with cooking from the very first time we cooked something in Home Economics. Now mind you we were in 7th grade so the cooking was not all that tough. The first thing we did was make broccoli and cheese using Velveeta cheese. I thought it was the most amazing thing I had ever tasted. I took cooking in school every year after that first year and we made a lot of awesome things. My favorite thing was when our teacher put out a bunch of different foods on the counter and said each group had to come up with their own recipe. Ours was so good. Mostly I remember that first bite of broccoli and cheese though, still love it to this day. I like the broccoli really tender though so it is almost like a soup. Mmm mmm. So do you have any home economics memories, a favorite food you made, something you sewed, or even something you made in shop class if you were able to do that instead. What are your school memories of home arts?

I remember taking it during my eighth grade year. I also loved the cooking part. It was fun to make new things that I had never had at home. I also really got into the sewing part. So much so, that I asked Mom to get me a sewing machine. By the time I got the sewing machine, I had forgotten how to use it! I tried my best, but it was hopeless. I still have it at home in my closet. Maybe someday, I will learn how to use it again.

I graduated in 2005, but we did have home ec and shop. I actually took both.
I took home ec in middle school and in high school I took shop.
I know a female taking shop? Well I didn't do good in the class but I still passed. I think he was afraid not to pass me (gender bias).
I don't remember us cooking anything. I think that I started to take a home ec where we cooked but I dropped out because I had to take another class to make up for one I failed. In any case, the Home ec type class (I forget what it was called) we did take, we learned to sew. I sewed or was supposed to sew a pillow.
I didn't sew it, I'm no good with that.
The Shop class we had to build a shed for the school campus. I wasn't good with that either.

I did terribly at sewing, but think that was because I did not take the class seriously. We had groups of 4 sewing machines, and I sat with 3 really fun girls and we would pretty much goof off the whole time. I don't think the teacher liked any of use, we eventually got separated.

In my country we had 3 different subjects. Art and crafts was the first subject that we had and I liked that a lot. In the 4th grade we had a subject where we learned to sew and knit and a couple of other things. I was not very good at that subject, but I liked knitting and as a adult I still like to knit. In the 6th grade we learned to cook. I don't remember much from other lessons, but there were couple of dishes that I really liked. One of them was a kind of sausage dish with vegetables. When I returned to my home that day I told my mother about the dish that we had cooked. I showed my mother the recipe and we cooked the dish together.

I like my broccoli nice and tender too. The thing I remember is sewing. I had a skunk and when I was done it looked fine except for one leg that was cocked up making it look like it was going to the bathroom. I got for most original. I am still not good at sewing but I can sew a button on.

I do! I remember when teacher said we're about to study cooking, everybody shouted for joy! Haha! Maybe we're more excited to eat than to cook. LOL! Our group deviated from cooking Filipino, so opted for American: tomato soup and garlic bread. It was tough to read and follow recipes if you're not familiar with cooking terminologies so we got an "A" for effort and B for taste. Not bad for kids eh?
