Easter is just three days away now and I wondered if everyone has already purchased all of the goodies that they are going to be filling Easter baskets with? If you have (or haven't) what are you going to be filling the Easter baskets with this year?
For me, I went to Wal-Mart last night with the intention of getting everything that I was going to be filling my children's Easter baskets with, however I failed as there was a toy that I've told my daughter that she will be getting for Easter that they were out of (I hope I can find it somewhere here in town).
What I have gotten so far is some candy for the baskets and a stuffed bunny for each of the kids. I just need to get the bigger toy for each of them and I will be done. This year we decided to do more toys and less candy in our pursuit to have a healthier family.

"Ishtar" is a pagan holiday, and should not be celebrated by those who believe in the resurrection.

Correction, "Ishtar", is a fertility goddess worshiped by the pagans and has no place in Christian worship, (that is if you are a Christian).

Cody, many Christians celebrate Easter as the resurrection of Christ. Pesach, or Passover, comes about the same time according to the Hebrew calendar. Christ is our Passover Lamb without Whom we could never have been led out of Egypt (a symbol for our state of slavery to sin). You could say that the church "took over" a pagan "holiday," but don't you think the devil had it long enough? It is time for Christians to claim it for Christ!
He is risen and I for one, will celebrate Easter with all my heart.

I agree with you to a point peavey. The holiday is celebrated with the intent to bring joy and happiness to children through means not Christian. The nations corrupted everything after the flood. There was universal knowledge about the "coming one", but over time many cultures just did their own things.
This Pesach is what it is, the passover, not bunnies and eggs. Yes, I understand that they are symbols, but one has to remember that a symbol represents what a person thinks, feels, or believes. Why was the passover instituted? It was to show the Jews the truth behind the resurrection. That the passover will be instituted until the savior comes and that he is the final sacrifice.
Plus, the passover celebration is no longer needed because he has risen. He has broken every barrier and has cleansed all things. We dont need any more anything seeing that we already know he has come and now reigns in the heavenlies. We need to live our lives according to James 1:27. This is the whole duty of man...
Ishtar is the name of the goddess of fertility as you already know. We should never associate our beliefs with those of pagan cultures. "Come out of her my people and partake NOT in her destruction..." Why not just go ahead and celebrate easter? Because it is not christian based, and never was until Constantine.
Just because he proclaimed to be a christian, it does not make it ok to celebrate these things. Just because George W. Bush prays, it does not make him a christian.
These things can be said too about Halloween. They are pagan and have no place in our culture. I will never tell my children about "santa clause" because he never existed, and it is a lie. I will not lie to my children. The "real" st. nick was a toy maker from Germany who helped out little boys and girls. That is what I would tell my children when christmas time came around and they wanted to know what was going on.
This thing about flying reindeer and all that other junk is silly. Valentines day, and all the rest are just like it.
I will tell you that a lady got mad at me for telling her in a public forum that Halloween is pagan and christians should not celebrate it...She got all bent out of shape telling me to "let the kids have their fun..." and, "dont spoil their night". Really? I told her that if she really cared about her children's spiritual and mental life, then start teaching them the 10 commandments and study HARD the entire Bible.
As you can see, I am very passionate about these things.
He has risen and we no longer need symbols.

Yes, I am finally ready. It took two trips because I was determined not to overdo the candy like I do every year and then I didn't get enough! I fill baskets for my grown kids that are nearby and this is the second year for the youngest grand daughter, so I will have a basket for her. I was trying to find things that weren't so heavy on the sugar and it wasn't easy. I'm glad they'll be here for Easter.

This year I really did go light on the candy and heavier on the toys and things. However, I really do think that my children really did appreciate those things.

That is definitely true. I think that there are far too many times when parents really over buy for their children.

That's actually the one item all 3 kids can agree on.

You know, I really don't do chocolate bunnies because they are something that would traditionally go to waste in our house.

thats a great idea to give them healthier things. gee i miss those days kids all grown now. we also used to hide eggs, even when we lived in an apartment in the big city we would hide them in the apartment. it was so much fun. sometimes we would also go then to some other easter egg hunt. i should have known that eggs still go bad even if they are boiled. no wonder the kids would get sick a few days later as they would still be eating those darn eggs back then, who knew.

Luckily, it was actually nice this year on Easter Day so my children were able to enjoy an egg hunt outside in my Mom's back yard. They were just empty eggs and at the conclusion, my mother gave each of the kids five dollars.

My girls are at the age, I think they're a bit old for Easter baskets.

My daughter is getting to that point, but my son is still small so I just go ahead and do it for both of them.

I asked my niece and nephew earlier today what they wanted to see in their easter basket because I thought we wouldn't be seeing them before easter, well we will be but I didn't know that at the time.
In any case I wanted to get them something and so I went out and got them each a chocolate bunny the ones that come on the long popsicle sticks.
I also got malt balls for myself, my grandmother and I sent home some with my sister.
I got two types of jelly beans (would have gotten more but couldn't find the ones I wanted) and I got two chocolate bunnies with pretzel in them. One for myself and one for my grandmother.
It was a treat that I wanted to surprise everyone with.
I think tomorrow will be a bit of a easter egg hunt though I don't have candy to give them.

You reminded me, with your Easter plans, that Easter is the second Christmas, and thereby, a time for gift-giving.
In these islands, Easter means joining an early dawn procession that commences from two places: the first one bears an image of the Sorrowful Mother veiled in black and the second one bears an image of the risen Christ. Mother and Son meet at the entrance of the church where a tiny cherub waits, and she removes the black veil and puts on a white one for the Joyous Mother. We call it Salubong or Meeting, then everyone enters the church for Mass. The Mass is followed by festive almusal or breakfast of suman sticky rice wrapped in coconut leaves or banana leaves or other kakanin sweet delicacies. with hot tsokolate or barakong kape strong coffee.
The past two decades though that we have adopted the Western Easter Egg Hunt and mall activities are attended by children in fancy fairy costumes and the like.
I like your Easter Egg Basket, read your post late, otherwise I would have native baskets filled with goodies for my neighbors. It's not too late though, if the market is open tomorrow, Black Saturday, I just might drop by and purchase some mini baskets and kakanin. Thanks for the idea.

You are right that Easter is the second Christmas. With the baskets that my children got this year, it really was a miniature version of the types of presents that they would get on Christmas.

With Randy being diabetic I am not sure what I am going to get him. For my parents I will get them an Easter Lily plant and my favorite jelly beans (she only eats the black ones). For my oldest nephew I got him a sketch pad and color pencils. For the two younger boys I got a package of cars each. For my niece I got her a couple of Hello Kitty kits she can paint. The biggest holiday I am doing things for are Mother's Day. My mom will be getting a tote bag that I am making for her as well as beginning jewelry making book, a couple of bags of beads, the tools she needs to make things, and also a gift card for Michaels. For my grandmother I am making a purse for her.

For us, our two big holidays of the year are Easter and Christmas. When it comes to Mother's Day, we really don't do a lot because my father-in-law insists that we spend the day with them (Tom's mom). Thus I can't do anything for my mother and my children can't do anything for me.

Thank goodness I got it all done yesterday. My husband and I went to the store to get it all while my mother watched the kids for us. =) They got bubbles, candy, bat and ball, side walk chalk, etc... Their going to be happy with everything, their not picky at all. =)

My children aren't really all that picky. The thing with the Furby was the fact that I'd told them that I would make sure and tell the Easter Bunny to get them a Furby since Santa Claus didn't bring them one at Christmas.

Yes I do have everything for Easter. I got it all last weekend with my mom while we could. My got my kids toys, some clothes. No candy for either of the kids. I hope they like the toys and clothes. I got JD some teething stuff and baby biscuits. I know my daughter is going to be so happy to see to see a baby duck and it looks real and you can feed it.

With my children being older, it is impossible for me to do Easter with no candy, but this year they had a lot less candy than they would have gotten in the past.

If it wasn't for my children I wouldn't make Easter baskets either. However, since I do have the kids, I have to say that Easter baskets really are something that I look forward to each year.

My goal this year was to not be shopping on the night before Easter, but that was definitely not something that worked out for me the way that I'd planned it to work out.
