This is hard one, I don't know how to repair a laptop, I just got my desktop computer working faster, it was full of dust, and I took the side cover off my desktop computer, and I mean it was full of dust, so I clean it out and I downloaded another browser called orca, and this browser work so fast, it really nice, it might be your browser, when you download orcar, delete your old browser.

It's really hard to diagnose/troubleshoot a laptop, I need more details about the laptop like it's specifications (cpu type/speed, how much ram, hard disk space left, operating system). Anyway, I suggest that you run a virus scan using an update anti-virus/anti-malware software, you can also download ccleaner, one of the best cleaning utility and it's free.

First of all, have you a good, up to date antivirus program installed and running? If not, then you should install one immediately and run a full scan.
Second, many people have been experiencing a very slow Internet for the last eight days due to a really massive denial of service attack which has been affecting many DNS servers. DNS servers are the 'index' which allows you to type in a website address and connect to it. There is nothing very much you can do about it except to hope that your ISP itself has taken steps to counter this. It is possible to choose another DNS service (for example, OpenDNS) but since this is a rather 'techie' thing, I won't go into details (you can find them on the OpenDNS website if you are interested).
So, FIRST, check for viruses or other malware which may be slowing down your PC (this sounds as if it may be the most likely cause).

Formatting the hard disk is a LAST resort, after you have tried everything else. I know that some people do it routinely but they are also very much more organised than most people and keep backups of their data and know where their current copies of the applications they use are (or they use a system which can restore everything to a 'known good' configuration).
A reformat and reinstall from scratch is NOT something most people should undertake lightly and usually takes the best part of a day, as I have often experienced on my own and other people's computers.

Try checking your browser extensions. They slow down browsing and try limiting the pages you browse at a time. This might also affect but not totally so you can just try. Anyway, there's no harm in trying.

Hi my1999, to boost the surfing speed of my old laptop, I always do my best to clear the browsing data regularly. most of the time I forget to do so, until the it's deadly slow I then realize that I haven't get all the download and browsing history, as well saved autofill form data, data from host apps, caches cleared. Get the cookies and other site and plug-in data deleted too. Anti virus is needed as well to keep away all kind of spamming mails and stuffs.
Happy posting

Slow for surfing? Maybe there is something wrong with your internet connection or to be sure, download CCleaner. I have always clean my computer laptop before and after I use it. I just want always my computer laptop to be clean so that it would not hung up. That is what I did every day.

Hi myl999,
You already have lots of responses from fellow mylotters regarding likely causes of the slowness which you are experiencing with your laptop such as presence of dust and dirt in the laptop causing heat build up and slowness, virus, too many windows opened at one time, etc and the solutions presented. You should try each of them one at a time and see if the problem is eliminated. Sometimes the slowness could be due to a hardware network adaptor card (in your laptop) that is acting up. If all else fails even reformatting the hard disk and reinstalling OS then I recommend that you send it to a proficient laptop technician to have your laptop checked thoroughly. Hope this helps. Have a nice day.

Hi friend, i think your laptop is affected by virus, so only the browsing speed is very low. Do you have any anti virus software in your system? Just do a virus scan in your system and remove the unwanted viruses from your system to increase the speed. Wish you to solve your problem in the near soon

Reformatting is usually completely unnecessary. It is NOT recommended unless all else fails!

Try deleting files and apps that you really do not use. Then defrag. It should help you get back a lot smoother loading of pages. If this still not works, then have it reformat.

Try to delete your internet histories and browser cache, there maybe too much data in your cache and history that makes not only your browser slow but your system too... Also try updating browser version.
Or maybe you could delete some files that slow your system by starting disk cleanup in system tools in accessories... Hope that works!

maybe your laptop is having some virus problems now. you need to constantly scan your laptop daily to check it plus you need to perform disk clean up regularly to delete unnecessary files.

Just clear the cookies and cache memory
Your system boosts up
And do clear the temporary files
