My daughter who is married and lives 60 kms away is with us since last 3 days. Her hubby is a government officer; they will be here for 6 days; but he had to take just one day leave.
The following were holidays, 27th and 28th March due to Dola and Holi festival; 29 th March Good Friday; 31 st March is Sunday; 1st April ‘Swatantra Utkal Diwas’; so he took leave for Saturday 30th March only; but enjoyed leave of 6 days.
Today is 29th I had gone to bank, and offices to pay electric and water dues; but very few workers were there; I could not pay the bills; feel so upset as the dealing clerk was said to be on leave.
It was last date for payment, will have to pay with fine next month.
Do you face similar situation there?
Or does the office make alternate arrangements for this.
Please respond, and comment.
Thanks in advance. Professor Dr. B.Saraf. PhD.
Cheers have a lucky day ahead. March 29th 2013.

If a clerk is not on duty than it is not your fault, you should complain this to the office.
We have to pay the bills before last date, or to the present staff, not everyone can be on holiday who have to deal with bills.
We don't have any holiday during swatantra utkal divas or 1st April, this would be an all fools day but no holiday.

I complained they say, they just put the last date, never checked if it was holiday.
On this 1st April 1936, our state Orissa, now renamed Odisa was reorganised on basis of language; for your information 'swatantra' means separate, 'utkal' means Orissa and 'divas' means day.
Thanks for response

I have had the fun of having friends and family to see on this longer weekend. But, as it happened to you, there are places where everything is closed and we are not able to pay what we need.

hi,professor,I'm glad that you can stay with your whole family together to share the holiday. When we have a holiday,we have to go to government deparments to handle affairs, but the workers take the holiday too,it is inconvenient for us,I think it's time for the government deparments to adjust functions.

Hi Prof...in my country, paying electric, water and gas can be done through Automatic Teller Machine ( ATM). So, we can pay whenever we want, because the machine provide 24 hours. We never get problems although we are in long holidays. I hope your country apply this method too, it is very convenient for us as well as there is no delay for the payment.

Hello Professor. I hope that you are enjoying spending time with your daughter and her husband. It is a similar situation in my home country due to it being Easter. Today is Good Friday, Sunday is Easter Sunday and Monday is Easter Monday. My daughter won't have gymnastics on Monday due to it being a bank holiday. It is so lovely your brother-in-law only had to take one days leave and he is getting 6 days. This time last year I was on a trip to South America with my two children. We were in Rio over the Easter weekend time. Have a lovely day.

Our India is the only country I know which has so many holidays. And thanks to the people too who know, taking a leave is their right and provided by law. Who cares whether you or me or anyone else fails to get the bills cleared... at least we enjoyed the 6 days leave...
Unfortunately, at KV Paradip, they had only 27th as a Holdiay, My wife was on work at the school on 28th when the city was celebrating Holi, and 29th again was a Holiday due to Good Friday... She did not take leave on 30th so would be at work again on 30th and 31st is Sunday and 1st April is NOT a holiday again. Now, it is my festive days which have been ruined as I have been here all alone with no one around! I wish they had some better options for people like us

I never knew Kendriya Vidyalaya is like that, it is run by central government and previously known as Central School; right?
Long back i have conducted practical examinations in some, some were on such holidays.

Hi professor!
We have almost the same situation here. We are observing the Holy Week to that is why we have a long vacation.
But of course we don't have that Dola and Holi festival.
I have all the time updating my online sites and myLot. I am waiting for the Easter Sunday. This is a very especial day for us Catholics.
Have a wonderful day!

Hi prof, good to hear that your daughter is in your place with her hubby and enjoying the leave days. Really your SIL is very lucky to enjoy 6 days leave with one day leave. sad to hear that you don't have the ability to pay the bill due to the holidays. Most of the time, the workers and staffs don't come to the job during this kind of holiday times, we must pay the bills previously to avoid this kind of issues. Always i will pay the bill earlier as much as i can to avoid the last minute delays and issues

Thanks for response, normally they give you 7 days time, but this time just 3; probably because of financial year ending.

I will be in church this weekend we are having our women conference so I will be busy all weekend,I might need for my sister, to go to the bank to withdraw some money for me,but my sister used the ATM machine anyway, to withdraw my money, so if the bank is not open it won't matter, that way I can buy me a sandwich Saturday, when they serve food after our program.

indeed a very long weekend for your son in law. you must be having a good time, with your daughter back at home and celebrating the holidays with you.
i'm sure you don't have to pay for a fine since most companies extend the deadline of payment if the due date falls on a holiday. it's even strange that the bank was open since you say it is a holiday.

Banks were open because 31st march is last date of financial year, yes date was extended by one day.
