I was just curious to see how many people out there keep a daily journal or diary? How long do you spend writing in it everyday? What kind of stuff do you write about? Do you ever go back and read them later? What is your purpose for keeping the diary/journal? Thanks!

I keep a daily journal. My personal reason is that I quickly forget what I have done in life. I usually write about my day and tasks that I have done. I also include what I need to do the next day. I only spend a few minutes a day writing in the journal, which is a simple composition notebook. Writing in a journal is very helpful, especially for the forgetful mind! If you know another language, then it is fun to write in both languages as well.

I do write everyday.I have been doing so for past 19 years.I buy diaries on yearly basis with a full page for every day of the year.I mostly go for A4 or bigger for all days.It helps in writing things for the day especially the big days in life. After the year finishes, i secretly keep my old diary at a secret place and this helps me a lot as i do not want others to read my old ones.I find diary to be a great friend. You can share things with diary without any fear. And best of all,you find that happiness and things you get from a real friend from the diary.I do read my old diaries once in a while. It helps to inspire reading the great moments of the past and thoughts and feeling i went through. The best use of diary comes in recollecting the chronological events in daily life.Sometimes, we need to find what happened on this day on when did this happen. So diary can help in this manner.Another way is handwriting.Well, these days we write less thanks to computers and laptops. So most of my writing comes in diaries.Besides, it all helps in my writing speed.I am glad of my habit of writing diary. Its one of the best habits i am having. And i wish to continue the same till i leave this mortal world. Thanks!

I really should keep one, but don't. My life is so boring that well someone reading it would probably contemplate taking his life. In fact when I do something unusual like going for a walk, even my friends are shocked. The thing is that my handwriting is so bad, that I could not understand it anyway. But maybe I should especially for people who probably have a camera around recording their life and do not understand why I sometimes do not know when I did such a such a thing.

I keep a journal all the time. It is a good way to keep track of when something happens, and it is also a good way to work through problems.

I need to update my journal once in a while because I need it with my personal evaluation sheet which we need to submit every semester. But I don't keep a personal journal.

I keep a journal, I keep a diary, I keep scenes for stories I plan to write - I am a novelist and filmmaker and both these occupations require a fair amount of taking notes; scenes and story lines particularly. This is where you work it all out on paper, then write and write some more. I have been writing since the age of 12 and have ten books published - one the very well-known and acclaimed book "Confessions of a Gambler" as well as the film - which I wrote and directed. Make notes, especially when you have many ideas. Keep a box of blank cards and fill them with sayings, plot lines and ideas. One can get these ideas in the car, in the grocery aisle, just anywhere. Always be prepared.

To journal! :D
I keep a journal. I don't write in it regularly. I only write when I feel like writing. Sometimes I write only once a week, sometimes I don't write for a month or more at all, sometimes I write everyday and there are times when I write for a number of times each day. The time I spend writing on a journal varies. Sometimes it takes only several minutes if the ideas keep flowing. Sometimes it takes more if I need to think carefully of how to say what I have to say. I write about anything. I write about the things that happened to me and more importantly, what I think and feel. I do go back and read them, and it's always a pleasure to do so. I get to know myself more, although it does make me feel a little bit nostalgic. My reasons for keeping a journal are (1) writing is my passion and (2)writing in a journal works as a sort of therapy. It's like an outlet for the things I want to express. Sometimes, it helps me deal with problems I need to face. It keeps me going.

I don't keep a daily journal because I'm usually too busy to write everyday. I do have a journal I write in once a week about my activities withmy son. I also keep a dream journal so I can search the meanings later on.

Hi, Rwinner.
I try to write in my journal daily. I like to keep track of things my kids did, books I am reading, places I went, recipes to try, quotes, etc. So much to write, sometimes I go overboard. I have a virtual journal board on one of my private boards on pinterest. I try to stay positive and write things I am grateful for or am looking forward to. When I look back on what I wrote, I can see how blessed I am. I stay away from negative writing and try to come up with positive solutions to the things that seem a bit difficult at the time.
