You'd think I'd know better

Two-three weeks ago I did some marathon house cleaning and the next day could barely walk because of my back. Well, yesterday I helped a neighbor organize her kitchen and today, same result only worse. I had to crawl to the washroom when I first got up because I just couldn't stand without excruciating pain. My course of physio has ended, and doesn't seem to have had any effect. Guess it's time for somebody to take me out behind the barn and shoot me.

I know how you feel! You have my sympathy and wishes for recovery. Have you tried ginger capsules? They are a great anti-inflammatory and even better than ibuprofen in a lot of cases, at least as far as I have found. Unfortunately, they are not helping me with my latest malady but they have provided relief for my back many times. Take it easy for a few days and remember not to overdo it again. If you want to help someone, tell them you need to sit rather than stand and reach or bear weight. You must take care of yourself or you won't be helping anyone anymore.

I've never heard of ginger capsules. Even though the ibuprofen was prescription-strength, I don't think it did much good.

Unfortunately, we do have Malwart here, destroying small towns and malls everywhere.

It is like a plague, isn't it? I avoid it whenever possible. Since I'm on a limited income, I do have to go there about once a month. I get vitamins there that cost me $4 or so where they would cost twice the price elsewhere. I buy coffee there because it's not sold anywhere else, although I just found some great stuff at a mom & pop store that will keep me away from Walmart for at least 3 months! I will pay a little more sometimes to avoid shopping there. Did you know that Walmart actually tells its employees where they can apply for benefits like food stamps because they pay so little and provide few benefits?! Okay, it's a private business and can do as it likes but when it drives out smaller businesses people don't have much choice if they want to work somewhere. Yes, Walmart is a scourge and I used to be guilty of supporting it before I found out how they operated. Old Sam Walmart must to spinning in his grave...

Maybe I should look into getting a brace or something. My older sister had a rod put in when she was 17. Her scoliosis was really pronounced.

I so hear ya! I went to the doctor today because I have a toenail that is ingrowing. And, its now has a minor infection. Also, my hiatal hernial is hurting me. And these are just what is jumping up and down on me TODAY... On top of that you have the fibro and other stuff. I've never been so bad I had to crawl any place, but I will say that I've been hard pressed to stand up too. Of course, crawling isn't good on my knees since I hear them back in 7th grade when I fell off the horse. And I have to use my fist instead of palm because of my dislocated wrist from 10th grade.... I tell people, that if I had known I was going to live this long, I'd've taken better care of myself...

Was it time you did your spring-cleaning ? Since You have a problem with your back, you shouldn't have exhausted yourself. Would you tell me what the "take me out behind the barn and shoot me"?

Thank you ! I don't know by that if I can understand you feel your ability is falling short of your wish when you do housework.

hi dear friend that sounds much like what I am going through when I try to wash the floors. As we have the outdoor shoes off rule here in the apartment there is no dirt in here but just a bit dust and I use the hand vacuum cleaner to get rid of this so the place looks tidy......

I swept up the back porch and picked up a few branches in the yard yesterday. Even that little bit gave me pain.

A soak in the tub and taking it easy for a few days? Have you tried yoga to help with the back issues? Yoga has successfully helped others, and there is gentle yoga that can be tailored to what is comfortable for you.

I had a soak in the tub, with epsom salts even, last night. That's why I'm in my bathrobe (didn't bother to change into a nightie).

Well, if it's any consolation I've just had my first poo since the night before my operation (Monday) and it felt like a grenade coming out of my bottom..the shape of it. Horrible! Because I'm in no pain I'm not going to take any more tablets. You see, I will run out before I go to Mum's if I carry on taking them, so I'd rather take the remainder to Mum's on Monday instead.

It happens. I get that way have to use a cane when it's bad) when I do my mopping by hand and not using a mop. All that bending and moving will put me in bed for a day or two sometimes.

Each episode just seems to get worse every time. My friend suggested taking me to emerg. but I'm not even dressed. Well, I'm in my bathrobe and managed to put on a pair of socks, but you know what I mean.

Yep. I know what you mean. It feels like electric shock pain in the back. Standing is impossible when the pain strikes like lightening. My daughter has had to help me get bathed and dressed. I couldn't even dress my feet. I have medicine that alleviates the nerve pain now for the most part.

Oh, don't give up! Maybe you just should not do excessive movement. I'm pretty sure I would have legs pounding with ache if I did a marathon cleaning all over the house, and not too long after that, I helped someone with a whole room organization... you know what? Have a nice bath and have a rest! You deserve it!

when we're in good shape we don't usually think about health problems. we feel invincible and strong and sometimes we just overdo things. i think this is what happened to you. you'd better hurry to see your doctor especially if the pain doesn't subside. i suggest you don't take any medicine unless it is prescribed by your physician.

Backs are dodgy at the best of times, they are so badly designed, isn't a shame we can't trade our bodies in for upgraded or newer versions. Like you do with cars, spare parts for any part of a car, why can't we have spare body parts that, when ours become worn, we just replace it! I think it's time you put your feet up, you ain't ready for the knackers yard yet my friend.
