I know a 20 year old guy I work with has no cellphone! I think it is very strange for a person that age not to have one! I asked him why and this what he told me. He said he can talk to everybody he knows face to face at school or on Facebook! Nice to know someone can and does live without a cellphone!

Thanks for this discussion, yes it is not that essential for many so long they have not used it, but once some one starts using it becomes essential.

This young man sounds like a wise one. We really should start a club. I don't have a cell phone and do find with out one. Glad I am not the lone ranger.

Maybe he will get one for his birthday. Not necessarily this one.

This young man is the only person his age who doesn't have a cellphone! My brother's gave their daughters a cellphone at 13! That is too young! Everyone has a cellphone in the family except my dad. With his declining health and age he doesn't have one. His grilfriend doesn't either. Her son tried to talk her into having a Tracfone just for emergencies but she turned him down! So you are not alone!

ya know, I opened this right after some stranger sent me a dating site on my cell phone... I sometimes wish I didn't have one! When WE were 20 we didn't have cell phones. I hate it when I see people walking around the store talking to someone on their phone rather than paying attention to where they are going!

I also hate seeing people on their cellphones, like when they are driving or like at Walmart! I see that all the time at work, too! Most the students do it! I have seen this with some of my student workers! I have had to yell at them to stop texting and doing other things on their phones more then a few times! Kids now a days have no idea what is to live without a cellphone when we were their age! I think some kids would go insane without one!

Even though, I still think a cellphone is necessary. Here almost everybody has a cellphone. People like to keep in touch with each other by the cellphones. As not everybody gets online all the time. The calling is still common to keep in touch with each other.

I am sure when this guy thinks he needs a cellphone,he will get one. It is very refreshing to hear this! I think him having no cellphone will make him a role model for parents who are thinking about getting a cellphone for their kids! My look on cellphones is,if your kid wants one, they have to pay for it and the service! It shows responsible and more kids should be taught that!

I have a friend who has a Blackberry that sits comfortably on top of the closet without being used. She considers it a distraction but she has it anyway because it was a gift from her boyfriend. The phone serves as her alarm clock. She prefers chatting with her friends through Facebook or email. I simply can't survive without a cell phone. It has become an indispensable part of of my being.

Four years ago I got my cellphone. I got it for emergancies.More then once it has come in handy for that! Now that I have not landline anymore I use my cellphone for my everyday phone. I text on it,use it as an alarm clock and play games on it. If I didn't have one, now,I would be lost without it!

In this case, he must keep online on facebook all the time. Thus as soon as someone asks him out, he can know and reply immediately. In China, there is a very very famous host who is a polymath and expert in dialects. But he hardly know how to use the computer. I guess he has his own way to manage to the news.

This guy is on Facebook alot, just like more people his age! I am too! I play games on there and go to Pinterest more then talking to people on Facebook. SOme people don't want to learn to use a computer or get a cellphone! I work with a man who is 57 like that! All employees now have to log in and out on the computer. He won't even do it! At the end of the work week he has his 8 yrear old daughter fills out his time card! He is not to old to learn but he thinks he is!

That is unusual for someone that young but I like it. I have a tracphone that I only use for emergencies but I don't think that is uncommon with people in my age group.

I was really surprised to hear someone that age has no cellphone! I know so many young people with cellphones, don't pay for their service and abuse the phones! I also hate hearing young kids getting phones like as young as 7! Yikes! That is way to young! I have a Tracfone and that is all I need. With no landline anymore my cell is my only phone.

How refreshing!! I'll bet he's a happy person, too, that enjoys life without the constant ringing of a phone. I find it very sad that no one lives in the moment anymore; they allow distractions from these phones to intrude on every event in their lives. The machine now controls us instead of us controlling it.

This sure is refreshing! I know so many people with cellphones and are constantly on them! Its terrible! I have had to yell,a number of times,at students tp put their phones away while working! At least the kitchen staff only use their phones on breaks! I when I am not busy, too!

I don't think it's all that strange... If it wasn't for work reasons, I wouldn't want a cell phone either... I do have facebook account but I don't really use it all that much... I'd much rather talk to someone face to face myself...

I am on Facebook alot! I also have a cellphone. If I need to contact someone,I do it on Facebook or text them on my cellphone. I have never been fond off talking to people on the phone,as long as I can remember! So talking on line or by sending a text works for me!

Hi, Add me here, I can live without a cellphone too. I have one but I usually turn it off or leave it at home when I go out. I think if people want to have business with me, it is good to see them personally and not over the phone or the net. I find mobile phone so annoying when lots people call or send me text messages and tell me to do this and to do that or to go where, why I fell more relaxed without my phone bugging me all the time. I can concentrate more on the job at hand or relax on that secluded place having no undue interference to disturb me.

So many people can't live with out their phones! I think some could, for awhile, because they are so addicted! So many people have the Iphones and Galaxy phones! I have a basic Tracfione and it suits me fine. I don't need a fancy phone.

So far this young man has been able to live without a cellphone! I think this is great! I am sure when he feels he needs a cellphone he will get one! Until then he will live without one! I have one and now it is my only phone. I got rid of my landline so my cellphone is not just for emergencies, anymore!

It's weird for me, too, but if he can live without it, good for him, With that being said, most serious workplaces want you to have a cell phone, if they wanna reach you. I wouldn't give my cellphone up, for this reason - what if I can't be reached when something urgent happens, like one of my beloved has an accident, or my boss wants me to comne in on my day off?

When other people hear this, some are very amazed! I love knowing not everyone thinks they need a cellphone! Especially at this age! I know some many young people and kids who have cellphones when they shouldn't! Then of course the parents pay for the phones and service! I still believe if a kid wants one, they have to pay for it!

it really depends on a person if she or he needed a cellphone.. everybody now has a cellphone even if they don't need it.. now a days cellphone offers a lot.. it is not just for messaging or for calling.. it has now games, internet access and a lot more.. so i admire people who can live without it because i must admit i cant live without it.. the moment i wake up first thing i grab is my cellphone..

I could live without my cellphone but now I have it as my only phone. I recently got rid of my landline. I have a basic Tracfone and it fits me fine. Most of the people I know have the Iphone or Galaxy 500,or whatever it is called. Those phones aren't for me.I don't need all the extra's those phones have. I know so many kids who get phones that don't need them yet and then don't appreciate it! Nice to know not all young people have one!

Right now this young man is living without a cellphone! He will get one when he thinks the time is right! He has a good pair of shoulders on him! I love Facebook and my cellphone! I hate talking to people face to face, lot! It is confidence issue. So talking on line or by texting is great for me!

Its nice, he was able to control his self about the things he like and its less in expenses, he will not worry about the mobile load expenses. And he has a point, we talk to our friends without using mobile phones. But the disadvantage is, we can not tell people if we are in danger or we need help if we don't have mobile phone.

I still have my frist cellphone I bought 4 years ago. I bought it for emergencies. It has come in handy a few times for that! I now use it as my regular phone bwcause I got rid of my landline, not long ago. So many kids are on their cell's texting or talking! It is like they can't wait and that is more importnat then everything! Nice to see a young person who lives with out one!

I think it's really doable ~ not having cellphones around. But I think since we have the option to allow people to contact us, then why not? However, it's good that this person hasn't formed an attachment to phones though - it may be a good thing. But for me, I think that's difficult because there's a lot of things that I do over my cellphone, my job requires me to have one. But I always turn it into private mode when it's already night time, so that nobody can disturb me (except for my family of course). Have a great mylot experience ahead!

So many young people are way into their phones! It is nice to see someone who is not constantly on their cellphone, texting and not paying attention to anything else! I don't have a landline phone anymore so my cellphone is my only phone. I have a simple phone. It fits me. I don't need a fancy phone like must people have now a days.

I wish I can live like that too. But for now, it is just not possible. I need a phone not just for entertainment but also for convenience and even for emergencies. My parents, my family, my friends and my co-workers may need me, the same way I might need them. Have a nice day!

Wow, that's really surprising! I'm 20 and I have a cellphone but I don't have facebook and I think the opposite of facebook..if I need to talk to someone I have their number. A cellphone is just convenient because you can get a hold of someone no matter where you are. With Facebook, you'd have to always be near the computer rather than having a phone on the go. I wonder if he has a house phone instead...

I don't know if this young man has a house phone. I think all his family is on Facebook and gets hold of them that way. He also only lives less then an hour an a half form home. He does visit often. With a computer I don't know if he has one of his own but like all students on campus he has excess to the computers on the campus.

I like having a cell phone with having kids, I want someone to be able to get in touch with me where ever I am if something happened to them at any time. But it is very surprising for someone that age not to have one! Most young adults do have a cell phone. My cell phone is the only phone that I have...

Most kids I know have cellphones by the time they are 14 or 15! Sometimes younger! Of course most kids are on their parents plan and pay for their kids phones, even through college! I think that is ok as long as the kid works hard in school and show responsiblity. I have only a cellphone now. My landline was costing to much.

It is so refreshing to know a person who rather not have a cellphone! To many young people,pre-teens and teens have one when they shouldn't! My goodness I have a friend who gave her 3 pre-teens a Iphone becasue her and husband have one! That is totally nuts! Not everyone needs a cellphone!
