"...to get ready for climate change, we should push Midwestern farmers to switch a chunk of their corn land into pasture for cows," says a recent American research paper. I wonder if you agree with the conclusion of this research! any reasons?

No, I don't.
Of course, I don't know the evidence the researchers use to support that conclusion. Are they going with the claim that global warming MUST happen? Maybe THAT'S the reason we all go underground like the Zionians in THE MATRIX---because above-ground is flooded with fire!
Back to reality: why do the researchers suggest 'cows instead of corn'? What do cows (in exchange for what we use on them) give us that corn does not (for the little bit of resource it needs)?

The argument is that when animals used to roam the earth, and humans were hunters, there was more rain, all the land including probably the Sahara were forested. However, since humans started intensive farming, the world is turning into a desert. The animals also manure the earth freely, they trod the grass freely...and all this helps in water retention in the ground.

Why is desertification happening? Now I'm learning about this stuff in my environmental biology class... Overgrazing and cutting down plants/trees I think are the main causes of desertification. But how would pushing Midwestern farmers to switch part of their land to grazing pastures for cows help desertification, when overgrazing is part of the cause of these problems?

I don`t know about the use of land, but I thought that when you turn soil that is good for planting into pasture, you are downgrading it. I wish you would enlighting me with that. Besides, I think that people should learn to eat more veggies and less meat (I`m no vegetarian). I am worried about the change in the use of land if not enough research is being made.
