Oatmeal is not a very common breakfast in my country, but I have heard that it is a very healthy solution that helps us start our day with energy and I looked for it in the super market.
I bought a pack last week and to be honest, the first time I didn't find it very tasty. I would say that it didn't have any particular taste at all. But I did a basic mistake, I didn't know that it should be boiled or cooked in the microwave first! So I ate it like cereals, in a bowl with cold milk.
Then I checked online and I found out that it should be cooked and there were some very nice ideas on how to make it tastier. One idea that I liked was with apples and cinnamon. I am going to try again tomorrow and this time I hope I will do it right!
I know that in some countries oatmeal is very common for breakfast, is it something that you include in your daily diet?

Hi. In my country, we usually don't eat oatmeal for breakfast. But nowadays people are becoming aware of their health and so are changing their eating habits. I like to boil oatmeal in lots of water and add a little salt to it. Nothing else. It is more like porridge. Even though I have it for breakfast, I have it once more inbetween my other meals too.

Do you combine it with exercise?
I think I like a richer taste, that's why I am looking for alternative cooking ways but this sounds great as well! It is very uncommon in my country as well, when I talked about it with my friends they didn't even know how it looked like :)

Sorry for the delayed response. Yes I do exercise. With two small kids, it is difficult for me to be regular to the gym but I make it a point to work out arleast four days a week. I have started putting on weight because of my erratic eating, sleeping and exercising schedule. But I am trying to loose all the weight I have gained(not much. Just 2 kilos). But still, nothing beats a good diet.

Happy Easter mariaperalta!
It's nice to hear that a lot of people are having healthy breakfast! I had a couple of mexican friends as a student and they never mentioned this to me. I wish they had told me the recipe because I first read about oatmeal online and then I found it in the supermarket but I wasn't sure how it can be made!

It's common here but I don't eat it all that much.
I don't put it in the microwave or on the stove, I put extremely hot water into the bowl I pour the oatmeal in, as I don't add much water just enough to moisten it.

I didn't know that it could be prepared this way, the recipes that I found online were showing boiled oatmeal with different additions every time. Maybe this will be a good idea when I don't have much time to prepare a proper breakfast! Thanks for your advice :)

a pleasant day to you besweet,
here in our country, oatmeal is a very common food for breakfast. as it is the most common food that is being eaten by those who want to reduce weights. hence, they believed that eating and taking an oatmeal in the morning will prevent you to take a meal in the afternoon. in this regard, you will lessen your carbo intake. so as the reason why they recommend eating oatmeal in the morning. and yes, it should be boiled or you can even put it in a mug then pour an amount of hot water that can make it dissolve.
bon appetite!

Thanks!
I am also trying to get a healthy diet, combined with exercise! My weight is normal for my height but I would like to fit better in my jeans and have a better shape in my body. That is how I learned about oatmeal, I was doing a research on healthy breakfast tips before or after my workouts and this came up as the healthiest option!
Thanks for sharing, have a great day! :)

Oatmeal was not also a famous substitute for breakfast in my country before, maybe because it's not common here. Or maybe, we are not aware yet of the many healthy benefits it provides for our body. But now, we can easily buy it in supermarkets and the price is really affordable. Very rich in fibers that our body needs. My wife always cook for me 3 times a week. At first I don't find it appetizing, later did I know that we can mix some fruits with it to make it more tastier.

Hi I have been eating oatmeal every morning for breakfast for about a year now. Oatmeal is the best what I do is I just put oatmeal in a bowl and put enough water to cover it cover it with plastic wrap and I cook in the microwave for 4 min power level 6 it turns out perfect every time. I put milk and brown sugar on mine it is so good I never tire of it. I also buy the regular kind with the large flakes it is called. Good luck and good eating to good health!

Yes, I also saw the regular oat flakes in the market. Does it taste the same?
I am planning to include it in my daily diet, hopefully I will find how I like it soon. I was reading that some people like to boil it more than others, but I don't know what's the difference yet!

Hahah that's funny. I like oatmeals for breakfast in the past and I find I actually like the taste of how plain it is despite being added some fruits and the like. However consecutive oatmeals for breakfast is not good for me because it breaks me out.

One of my friends actually intentionally eats her oatmeal uncooked. I don't really understand it, but that's the way she likes it. I don't know if it's because of where she's originally from or if it's something that is strictly her.
Pretty much any fruit can be added to oatmeal; it just depends on what you like. Also, sweeteners such as fruit juice, maple syrup or honey can be used; skip the sugar (and always avoid those nasty artificial sweeteners). You can also drop in a few chocolate chips and mix them in for a "decadent" taste; dark chocolate is, of course, best for the health benefits.

Thanks, there are many good ideas here that I am going to try! I want my breakfast to be interesting because if I make the same thing every day it becomes boring. I didn't know about the fruit juice, and the dark chocolate sounds tempting!
Thanks for your comment, have a nice day!

I know that oatmeal is healthy but I have not gotten to like it for breakfast yet
I like it with evaporated milk and sugar though. I have not tried eating oatmeal with fruits but I know a lot of people do.
I also like oatmeal cookies.

Funny that you didn't read the instruction first and just ate the oatmeal as it is, my friend.
But anyway, they are more fibrous that way.
Going back, there are oatmeal that are instant. You can just pour over enough amount of hot water and milk , stir it so they blend and cover it. After 5 minutes, it's ready to eat.
It's a nice breakfast food and healthy too.

Haha! I know, it was funny because I ate it and didn't realised it. After many days, I searched online and found out that it should be prepared in a totally different way! :P
Sometimes it's silly, but something that you are supposed to know is completely strange and you are unfamiliar with it! While other people might think that it's common knowledge!
Thanks for the advice, I prepared it today and it was much better! Have a great day!

I do agree that oatmeal is a great way to start the day. My daughter and I love eating oatmeal. Yes oatmeal definitely needs to be cooked or it will not taste right. I hope that it comes out great for you.

I am not a big fan of cereals but I would eat it for breakfast once in a while. Sometimes, I would just have it for dessert or just about anytime when I feel like having some extra fiber in my system. I always pour milk on it and some raisins. And that's it.

I bought raisins today, I think they might add some extra taste. In general I don't like milk combined with food, unless I eat it seperately so I prepared it with boiled water. Maybe that's a reason why I didn't like it the first time with the cold milk!
It's a healthy solution and it should definitely be a part of out diet, even it's not preferred as breakfast!

In my country, oatmeal is not common for breakfast, most people in my region usually have breakfast by bread and milk or rice and veggie. But i think oatmeal is the best breakfast too, because it contain whole wheat that has many advantages for our health. Have a nice day.

I know what you mean, we have cold breakfast as well. Sometimes we eat toasted bread and butter but we don't cook breakfast in the traditional way (in a pot or microwave). But oatmeal gave me a lot of energy and I think that it kept me from eating longer than usual! I will include it in my daily breakfast from now and on!

I have started to eat it for breakfast daily as it does lower cholesterol. I buy the most natural one abvailable and this is thew coarsest kind. I cookit in the moicrowave with skimmed milk for three minutes then stir the contents and cook for another minute. I add natural honey to it and cinnamon. I have eaten it with apple but did not care for it much that way. It is good for you. I am going to continue to eat for health reasons

Does it lower cholesterol? I didn't know that, maybe it would be useful for my mother who has higher levels of cholesterol and high blood pressure. Do you know where I could find some more information on the benefits for people with high cholesterol?
I decided to boil water and add the oat flakes inside instead of putting it in the microwave. I added some cinnamon and honey as well and it tasted good! Thanks for the advice! Have a great month!

Oatmeal is a very common breakfast food here. I know that my son loves to have his oatmeal in the morning. It is good for vitamins and minerals in your daily diet and it is very filling. I know that he likes it when I add a couple teaspoons of brown sugar to his bowl. It is very good made this way. I like to add both brown sugar and raisins to mine. You can get pretty creative because the taste is pretty bland and allows you to add some basic ingredients to "spice it up'! I have even had brown sugar and bananas.

I bought some raisins today and I am going to add them next time! I had a bowl of oatmeal today and I liked it more when I cooked it! I added apples and cinnamon and some honey on top. I am not used to warm breakfast but I was reading online that it helps our body to start the day with more energy comparing to cold breakfast!
