During easter, you can see lots of egg-hunting activities, egg painting, as well as bunnies around the corner. I was just surious why they are always associate the easter with eggs and bunnies instead of other animals that can represent the said day. How about you mylotters, what are your thoughts on this?

Hi, We have no such celebration here. How Easter came to be associated with eggs and rabbits came from the roots of the pagan religion before Christianity. Missionaries are quick to adopt traditional celebrations in a locality and transform them into one with a religious and spiritual meaning although some of the old practices remain. Our fiesta, marked with merrymaking, feasting and drinking comes from an ancient ritual to offer thanksgiving to the gods for a bountiful harvest every season. When the Christian missionaries came, they still let the people celebrate but the thanksgiving is now attributed towards some saints for their intercessions thus the good harvest. Even if this celebration has lost all vestiges of that ancient tradition, the practice is still going on up to the present every year.

I got your point. Perhaps this has been an old tradition that until now it was still used as part of celebration of the Easter.

As far as I know, this has something to do with new life and for us Catholics, Jesus gives us new life. Egg being a symbol of fertility was associated with this celebration. Bunny is another symbol of fertility because of their rapid reproduction which again means life. So eggs and bunnies symbolizes life. Have a wonderful day!

So these two symbolizes life. Funny but this is really new to me. I really don't know that true meaning of the two why they are used during easter. Good that I know it already before my son asked me and will give him nothing. Thanks.

Last night i saw on tv that these bunnies or the eggs do represent new life.. but then we did not do any of it. We just went to Church and prayed. My daughter even told me while watching tv how nice it would be to go and hunt for the eggs as of course it was quite attractive on her part as she is a kid. But i did told her that what we did was a lot more meaningful, we prayed and was with Jesus.
