I have been wondering over the last few years as to how to appreciate music. If you are a music lover you should know how to appreciate it as well. Does music appreciation involve the knowledge about the nuances of music? What do you think? I think a thorough knowledge about musicology is extremely important when it comes to appreciation of music.

Well I suppose that those theories are not that important when it comes to music lovers. They have their own tastes, which are not based on theoretical judgements. They just love it.
But music appreciation may involve professional perception of it, which requires some knowledge about musicology as you said.
Anyway, I think that everyone is a musical expert. They have their judgement, preference and dislikes, which is very natural and intuitive, and may change with time going on.

This question looks kinda tricky, you know. Everyone has his own taste and style of music he likes, that's for sure. Also, all people enjoy and appreciate the music they listen to, basically that's the reason why music is used for. I guess the more we understand the theory of music, the more we increase our knowledge of how it's made and satisfaction itself. I'm playing guitar myself, and can totally tell that the more difficult song you play, the more enjoyment ya get. It just adds more feeling and emotions to this process. So, summing up, I think yes, knowledge about the nuances of music greatly boosts the appreciation of music. Sorry for not perfect English, still at high school :).
